Dead Can Dance performed in Toronto what was a good show for the most part. Just over a year since I saw Brendan Perry perform solo and classic DCD songs at a half capacity venue in Toronto, it was nice to see a nearly sold out show in such a grand venue. This was the 4th time I have seen them in Toronto, the first being in 1990 at the Danforth Music Hall. Brendan's voice seems to improve with the years. I cannot say the same for Lisa's. Don't get me wrong, she is still one of the best on the planet but her vocals are definitely not as good as they use to be especially the higher pitches. The vocal accompaniment/assistance by Astrid Williamson on keyboards took away from Lisa's performance and seems to confirm the above. I have never seen Lisa Gerrard backed up by another female vocalist!? The set list was good, nice to hear the new album live as it is a very worthy release, too bad not many around me seemed to know a new record had been delivered, or if they did , had not bothered to go and hear it. Opium is the stand out track however Brendan missed an entire verse and the part with the lyric "opium". As for the comments that the concert was too loud. Is this for real? Not sure how may "rock" shows ( yes it was a rock show) these people have been to but they generally are a lot LOUDER than what you saw Thursday night and loudness generally comes with the territory . You could have borrowed my earplugs as they were certainly not needed at the show.
