    Fantastic Show

by Dianne on 2022-08-14National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I knew very little about the story before attending and was surprised as the story unfolded. As a parent, I could relate to the family members and kids perspectives for each actor's role. The use of technology, lighting and music further perfected the amazing talents of each actor. The venue was superb at the NAC. Ottawa is so fortunate to have a world class stage that attracts world class shows and talents. I look forward to planning my next NAC event!

    It was ok

by Ho hum on 2022-08-14National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I was expecting much more; the performance was ok but not spectacular. I did not think the lead character sang very well and he depicted Evan Hansen as more of an autistic person which I didn’t feel represented Evan Hansen in the appropriate manner.

Dear Evan Hanson was very moving!

by Diane on 2022-08-13National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

We had quite a few understudies for our performance and so the voices were not quite as strong as they could have been. But the actors were very skilled at making us feel the emotions of their characters. Overall it was an incredible performance!

    Just amazing.

by MelissaH on 2022-08-13National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

We loved this musical. The story, the characters, the music, the set, the use of social media, lighting, EVERYTHING. I will make you laugh and cry multiple times. They did a great job with a very difficult topic.

    Amazing show

    by Christina on 2022-08-11

I’ve been trying to catch this show since 2018, but the schedule never panned out. I was overjoyed to hear that the touring cast was coming to Ottawa - and they surely did not disappoint. The whole experience was amazing. The simplicity in the set made the show more genuine. All the actors were immensely talented. The actor who played Jared was phenomenal. The show talked about important themes about mental health and inclusivity. I would highly recommend this show, the music is amazing too.

    Amazing

by Pepe on 2020-03-04Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I attended Evan Hansen on Sunday by myself and sat next you lovely lady. She told me there might be some tears and mentioned she had tissues. Well I was sobbing at certain times and she gave me tissues and put her arm on my shoulder. The show is so beautiful but devastating. Amazing performances by all and fantastic band. I cannot recommend it enough. And thankfully on the end, redemption

    So so

by Ippy on 2020-03-03Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Loved the staging & many of the songs. Some difficulty in hearing several of the actors at times esp. the daughter. The underlying themes of teenage anxiety, depression & parental disconnection resonate esp for those age groups.

    OVERALL, JUST OK

by STARLORD on 2020-03-03Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

First the positive. Great acting. The negative ? The story line is not only weak, but it proves how social media has too much influence in today's society. Any moron now has a platform to speak from. Evan Hansen proves this fictionally ( thank god ) in the play, but in reality it happens. It is sad day for mankind. Just look at the evidence in the world, Trump and Trudeau. Two of biggest losers and how they use social media to further boost their own already inflated egos. Evan Hansen is a loser and the play is not worth the money. Hamilton is so much better, in so many ways. Cheers

    Amazing!!

by MoLang on 2020-03-03Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I knew the music well but had never seen the musical so I wasn’t sure to expect but I did know the experience (good or not so good) would depend on the cast, and especially the actor who played Evan Hansen. Also, I am a HUGE Ben Platt fan so I was concerned the voice of Evan might not measure up. My experience was even better than I had hoped for!!! The entire cast impressed me immensely. I was with someone who nothing of the music or story and she was bowled away as well. Thanks for a wonderful experience. I still smile when I think of the performance I saw. Well done by all!!!!

    Outstanding

by Mel on 2020-03-02Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

The cast was incredible and the show is well-worth the awards it has been given. This musical is everything you could want: a heartwarming tragedy. Stephen Christopher Anthony (who plays the title character, Evan Hansen) will make you laugh, cry, smile slightly, weep, laugh again, and then bawl your eyes out. The music flows well and gives the show the cohesiveness that it should have but different enough to keep things interesting. Dear Evan Hansen is a must-see.

    Strong opening

by ND on 2020-03-01Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Really great opening act. High energy. Staging was well done. Solid performers. One major negative: sound at the venue was poor. Opening number was actually hard to hear. Not good. After intermission, the energy flopped. The pacing fizzled. I understand the serious theme but there were so many quiet pauses and beats which I assume were directed, that the musical lost momentum. I’d not see this again in Vancouver but I am curious if the show is like this in NY. The last half did not feel Tony worthy for a show. The first half did so I’m not sure if this was director, traveling show factor where talent is exhausted and loses steam. I’m not certain but it was a shame.

    Perfection

    by Cara L on 2020-03-01

That was an amazing show. I went with my 12 year old daughter who has been following the show for sometime. I’m super impressed on how real and non sugar coated they were on the subject matters. (Mental health, suicide, teen and parental issues) It was absolutely perfectly written. It really is a door opener for conversation. Highly recommend for anyone, especially parents with teens. Amazing performance by all the cast members especially Evan (Sam) That guy is an amazing talent. Well done!

Good Relevant storyline for the times, good music but couldn’t hear the cast sometimes and during some of the musical numbers. Was the sound system off?????

Amazing musical. Definitely one of my favorite

by KSur on 2020-02-28Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Dear Evan Hansen is an amazing musical, it tells a challenging story of growing up/surviving in the current world that seems so connected but alienate people more than ever. The stage/set up is amazing, the musics and lyrics conveys the story very well. I went to first Vancouver show and a bit disappointed at first to learn that we got the alternate Evan (Sam Primack) instead of the main Evan(Stephen C Anthony), but kudos to Sam, he sang and acted wonderfully. Maybe next time I will get to see Stephen.
