Dr. Hook was off da hook!!

by Newgroupie on 2012-09-24Deerfoot Inn & Casino - Calgary

Great concert! Small, intimate venue, drinks were served and the band played the most memorable songs. They sounded great! They even went to the karaoke bar after the show :)

    Excellent event

by Potwiggle on 2012-09-23Century Casino - Edmonton

Dr Hook was amazing, the only problem with the evening was that there were 2 waitresses for the entire show room. We ordered one round before the show started during seating. Both girls worked very hard and were friendly but in the course of the show we we're served once toward the end. One of our group did stand inline for 25 minutes for beers. The only change I would suggest is to increase the wait staff to reasonable.

by Number1Grandma on 2012-09-22Century Casino - Edmonton Alberta

I have enjoyed your music since the 70's It was my dream to see Dr Hook in person. After almost wearing out the Dr Hook CDs I finally saw him in Edmonton last night It exceeded my wildest imagination. It was like being 40 yrs younger I barely cd keep still I know every word to every song and Im afraid I sang them all last night right along with the bad. He blows me away with his stage presence and great backup band. I hope to repeat this wonderful moment and flasback in time soon, Please return to Edmonton guys,

I was saddened by the performance of Dr. Hook band and Ray Sawyer. First, the band was on the stage for just over an hour but then with the performance as it was, it was better to have a short performance than an even longer one. I was so disappointed in this event and even more so that no one (even his band) had the heart to advise Ray that he should leave his songs for us to hear on his CD's only. The tickets prices were high for an event like this and I will not book any future shows at the Century Palace Casino. They should screen the entertainment before tacking on a high price to view such a bad performance.

First time for us. Ages 21 to 57, hard to say who had the best time. Proves some music is timeless.

    Seriously??

by CheckingItOut on 2012-06-17Century Casino - Edmonton

As a long-time Dr. Hook fan, I anxiously looked forward to the nostalgic trip I would enjoy at the Dr. Hook show in Edmonton this past Friday. Now that it has occurred, I wish I would have gotten sick that night so as not to tarnish my memory of the golden songs they sang 20-30 years ago. In short, this was the worst concert I have ever attended. Overall, the sound quality was terrible. That's the good news. The lack of clarity helped hide Ray Sawyer's lost voice. I loved Ray Sawyer back in the day, but he obviously missed his stop about 10 years ago. His voice lacks any power and has no range. He was off key and out of time almost all night long. The only time that any song reminded me of what it was supposed to sound like is when Ray was quiet and let the audience sing the last half of A Little Bit More. After a couple songs and some talk, my companion asked me if Ray was drunk or stoned. He slurred and mumbled so much he sounded as if he was. He forgot song lyrics at a few points and ended one song prematurely. The band did its best to try to salvage the show, most notably when Ray attempted Otis Redding's Sittin On A Dock, then was unable to finish the whistling verses. The band tried to pick it up while Ray regained his breath. However, over all, due to the poor sound and Ray being so off tune, it was very difficult to recognize even the biggest Dr. Hook tunes. It sounded horrible. Dr Hook was a wonderful, fun band, and Ray Sawyer was a terrific lead. However, the key word is "WAS". It's time to call it a day, Ray. Let the wonderful old memories live on. Please do current fans a favor, as well as your health. Please stop playing.

    Dr. Hook

by Ange54 on 2012-03-28Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

We were not expecting a great concert given what remembered about this group. This was fortunate, because, although the band members tried hard, the concert was no where near great. We felt sorry for the lead singer because he was having so much difficulty. In fact, many people in the audience expressed sympathy for him.

Dr. Hook & Ray Sawyer were awesome

by Rain1939 on 2012-03-27Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

Ray Sawyer for his age still does a remarkable job and is so professional. Could hear all his lyrics not drowned out like some entertainers. A whole lot of young peiople there that were'nt even born in 1969.

    Painful

by CindyLou64 on 2012-03-27Red Robinson Theatre - Coquitlam, BC

I saw Dr Hook 30 years ago and considered it one of the best concerts I had ever been to. I went to the show in Vancouver at Red Robinson Theatre on March 23, 2012 and I now list it as one of the absolutely worst concerts of all times. His voice is gone, gone, gone. Why doesn't somebody tell him. People were walking out. I am agast at the reviews from people saying how good it was...were they at the same show as me? I don't get it. I love the music too, but this was so far beyond bad.

    OMG!!

by hordipucky on 2012-03-26Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

    This was by far the absolute worst concert I have ever been too. I was so geared to see these folks. Dr. Hook has been such a great part of my youth. I drove 7 hours to come see them. What a mistake. Ray is not just past his prime his vocal chords are tired. He could hardly sing a note. I feel bad revieing in this way but I spent close to a thousand dollars to make this journey and then ..... The worst happened. I have seen many aging 70's band with new lead singers, aged and possibly unwell original members and have granted good graces for the 'alright' entertainment because I just loved them as artists sooo. The music was perfect and if I just listened to that I would have been content. Ray needs to retire he has exhausted all his body has to give. So sorry. :-{

I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Hook Friday night at The Red Robinson Theatre!!! Ray Sawyer was amazing as he sang all the big hits and had people dancing by the stage!!! His compassion for his craft is wonderful and between songs he has a delightful sense of humour!!!

    Give it up!

by Robbin on 2012-03-25Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

That was the worst show I have ever attended. I have heard from others who saw him over the past couple of years and said the same thing. Doesn't the show theatre care what they attach their name to?

    Walked out on Dr. Hook

by Lainie on 2012-03-12McPhillips Station Casino - Winnipeg

This was the worst concert I have ever been to. They came on 15 minutes late with no acknowledgement or apology, showing no respect for the people who paid good money to see them. Ray Sawyer can not sing and should not even try. He spoke quite a bit of the vocals and when he did sing, he was so off key we could just not stand it. It was very painful. His voice has nothing to do with his age. I sing with a very talented group of entertainers, many who are between 70 and 90 years of age and let me tell you they are on pitch - Ray had no hope of being on pitch. We walked out after 25 minutes and the people next to us said that if the tickets hadn't been so expensive, they would have been leaving also. We have been to over 100 concerts of different entertainers, young and over 70 and yes the voice does diminish and change over time but nothing like what has happened to Ray's voice. I commend the other members of the band for being able to sing back-up on pitch against Ray. They should get a new lead singer. For something that was supposed to be my birthday present - this was a huge disappointment.

    Dr.Hook still rocks!!

by pekka05 on 2012-02-15Beach party, Lyndal Norway - Lyndal and Egersund

Last summer we saw Dr.Hook twice in Egersund and Lyngdal Norway, it was a blast from the past. Ray Sawyer fronted a great band which takes us into memery lane with all the Dr.Hook hits and great sence of humor that,s makes the growd very happy. Ray also did a song called Hey Willie from his last album which just were great. His son Cayce was on drums and the whole band was just great.

    Still got it...

by Nikki35 on 2012-01-30McPhillips Station Casino - Winnipeg

I think this man could sing the phone the book and still sound groovy. So many wonderful song and supper long. Quite unexpected. Wish that they would have stuck around to do a signing. Favorite moment was the two young girls who ran up on stage and were escorted off by security, Ray was kinda confused and told the the security to "hey man leave the girls alone" was really funny.

This is NOT Dr. Hook as I remember!

by demogirl on 2012-01-28McPhillips Station Casino - Winnipeg

This is the worst concert I have ever been to! I made the mistake of thinking "Dr. Hook with Ray Sawyer" meant that Ray Sawyer was an opening act for Dr. Hook. But he is posing as the lead singer. The voice of Dr. Hook as I remember it is Dennis Locorriere. Ray Sawyer couldn't hold a note! He's tone deaf! I couldn't even tell what the tune was when he sang. It was better when he let the audience sing. How could he and the other band members (whether or not they're original, I have no idea, but the drummer was clearly too young to be) not be embarrassed to be on stage with him?! We stayed for a few songs but it was torture - way worse than bad karaoke. In future, I will know to research who's singing when an old band goes on tour as this felt like a sick joke and a scam!

    DR. Hook needs to retire!

by DenJohn on 2012-01-28McPhillips Station Casino - Winnipeg

It was great hearing the songs but the crowd was more on-tune than Dr. Hook. We should have seen the act 20 years ago...waited too long! He is 75 years old - should enjoy his retirement...but great career and thanks for the songs!
