About

Pioneering synth-pop band Depeche Mode have sold over 100 million albums and played to over 35 million fans worldwide. Depeche Mode was formed in 1980 by Andy Fletcher, singer Dave Gahan and keyboardists Martin Gore and Vince Clarke. The band released their U.S. breakthrough in 1984 with the platinum-certified album Some Great Reward, which included iconic songs such as “Master and Servant” and the Billboard Hot 100 Top 20 hit “People Are People.” By the ’90s, Depeche Mode became one of the most popular bands of the alternative music boom. Their triple-platinum album Violator (1990) became a smash hit that spawned alternative classics such as "Personal Jesus” and "Enjoy the Silence.” Over 40 years after their formation, Depeche Mode continues to be a touring force; the band’s 2017–2018 Global Spirit Tour grossed over $202 million. They were also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020. Following the tragic passing of Fletcher in 2022, Depeche Mode forged ahead with their 15th studio album Memento Mori in 2023 and a massive world tour, and remain as influential as ever.

    AMAZING!

by Devotee on 2009-07-25Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

These guys are simply the best! They play their new material as well as their classics and deliver an exceptional show. Dave is the greatest front man and Martin one of the best songwriters. If you are hesitating whether to go see them or not, well....just GO!

    Packed House Leaves Disappointed

by cquibell on 2009-07-25Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

I've never seen the amphitheatre at capacity. It was an unbelievable sight to see people elbow to elbow even on the lawn. That said, the band did not do anything special to get them going. Considering it was the opening night of the tour, you would expect a little more. The best aspect of a live show is any artist being able to add to their music. Depeche Mode did not do that. All their material sounded exactly like it does on their albums.

They just get better and better. They had a wonderful mix of the new album with some of their best classics. Two encores! Fabulous.

    Depeche Mode - Truly Amazing!

    by izzy55 on 2009-07-25Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

LOVED it! Depeche Mode - something for everyone - songs new and old! We expected it to be high energy and were not disappointed - everyone dancing on their feet all evening! Would go and see them again tonight if we could! Love them now, as much we did when we were in our twenties!

The concert totally rocked. Couldn't stand still the whole time. They did old and new stuff, the sound was great, the vocals were great, they totally still have it!! They did two encores... no one wanted it to end. Hope they come back again soon.

    Depeche Mode Rules!!!

by Flutegirl on 2009-07-25Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

DM never ceases to amaze me!!! I have seen them 7 times in concert and each time is better than the last! The energy, the fanatic fans, the video screens, Dave's famous moves and Martin's accessories made it a night I will never forget!!

    A la Depeche Mode.

by oOLIVOo on 2009-07-25Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

I enjoyed the night thoroughly, the atmosphere was electric. I have to say Depeche Mode fans seemed together as one last night. The show was great! It was my first time, my cherry is popped and I would love to see them again if time could ever be more graceful.

    DM blew my mind

    by munchkin3000 on 2009-07-25Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

The show was excellent! Depeche Mode played so many of their classics, I couldn't help but have a smile on my face for the entire show. The crowd was dancing, singing and completely enthralled at the mercy of Dave Gahan and the band with their synth heavy songs. Sitting in the 400s section, the weather uncertain = $100 for tickets. Having my M&Ms thrown out by security before the show = $3.50. Seeing Depeche Mode live and playing all their hits = priceless. Thank you!!!

    Awesome Show Yet Again

by Notesboy on 2009-07-25Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

The best show by DM that I've seen since their Songs of Faith & Devotion tour in the 90's. The guys have it going on and the stage show by Anton Corbijn was once again outstanding!

    Depeche Mode - Never Dissappoints

I think that was my 8th Depeche Concert and once again a fantastic performance. They are by far the best live band in the Universe.

Still got it after almost 30 years!

by Masse on 2009-07-25Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

This was my 5th Depeche Mode Concert and what makes it special was the it wasn't special at all! Usually you can rate concerts 1 through 5 but Depeche Mode has always been consistently good at pleasing crowds by playing the classics and having elaborate stage designs. Although I'd put their last tour slightly ahead, they have no signs of ever slowing down! DM forever!

Stick to what made you great

    by KNL25 on 2009-07-25Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

Why do bands forget that there is a reason they have so many followers after 25 years??? Here's a hint - it is not for your new CD. DM played a few favorites, but didn't get much of a response until Personal Jesus, then followed it up without a bang. A disappointing show!!

    Dave Gahan still has IT!!

by AAMB on 2009-07-25Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

Despite Dave's previous health problems, he definitely put on a great show!! How could you not like Dave's wiggling backside or his twirling with mic stand! SOTU songs were a little slow, but it was great to listen to Dave's voice live! To end the show with 2 amazing encore sets and singing Happy Birthday to Martin was awesome!!

    Still got it!

by morena on 2009-07-25Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

The weather was great after the downpour earlier in the afternoon and the music was awesome. Loved the stage lighting and graphics along with very interesting videos. The boys are older but still sexy and can SING . The two encores at the end were great and the crowd really enjoyed them. We had a great time even on the lawns where everyone was dancing and singing along.

    Depeche Mode was great!

by Kristine on 2009-07-25Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

They could have played a few more hits, but then again they have so many hits! Set seemed pretty long. Great encore: 1st encore, 3 songs (including Personal Jesus, which everyone went crazy for) and a 2nd encore of 1 song. I thought they sounded really good. Had read something before about Dave Gahan's voice not being what it used to be...I'd never seen them play live before, but he sounded good to me! They all did. Loved it!
