About

Pioneering synth-pop band Depeche Mode have sold over 100 million albums and played to over 35 million fans worldwide. Depeche Mode was formed in 1980 by Andy Fletcher, singer Dave Gahan and keyboardists Martin Gore and Vince Clarke. The band released their U.S. breakthrough in 1984 with the platinum-certified album Some Great Reward, which included iconic songs such as “Master and Servant” and the Billboard Hot 100 Top 20 hit “People Are People.” By the ’90s, Depeche Mode became one of the most popular bands of the alternative music boom. Their triple-platinum album Violator (1990) became a smash hit that spawned alternative classics such as "Personal Jesus” and "Enjoy the Silence.” Over 40 years after their formation, Depeche Mode continues to be a touring force; the band’s 2017–2018 Global Spirit Tour grossed over $202 million. They were also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020. Following the tragic passing of Fletcher in 2022, Depeche Mode forged ahead with their 15th studio album Memento Mori in 2023 and a massive world tour, and remain as influential as ever.

They sounded fabulous, just like I was listening to the albums and a great variety from all of the albums. Wish I had a better seat

Depeche Mode one more time proved to be the best.

    by 3dchris on 2009-07-25Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

Like old wine some bands get better and better with age and this time DM proved that one more time. All the songs came to life with the addition of live drums and Dave's singing was better than ever. My only problem was the visibility of the stage from section 401 and the sound quality in that section. I think the sound systems should be covering sides better.

Depeche Mode is like no other

by destinycm on 2009-07-25Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

I have seen Depeche Mode live many times, and I always tell people, you will enjoy their show regardless if you are big fan of them or not. This night was no difference. I brought a friend who had never seen them live, who likes them, but doesn't love them, and she left with excitement and whole new appreciation for the band. Dave Gahan, the lead singer, is full of energy, charismatic and knows how to work us, his crowd. Both Martin Gore and Dave Gahan have beautiful vocals live. A trait that sometimes gets missed a little on a CD. The crowd, now the crowd... they react and they dictate if a show is going to be good. Although I think Toronto is a little tame compared to other places, we were jumping up and down, singing our hearts out and waving our hands. The concert went into overdrive as it neared the end... I Feel You, Policy of Truth, Enjoy the Silence and Never Let Me Down Agains. Encores went back years for some old favourites: Stripped, Strangelove, Personal Jesus, Master and Servant and Waiting for the Night. You would think only a certain generation would come to this concert. But there were teens , 20's, 30's and 40's filling the stand. A full sold out night. It was one of the best concerts I have ever been to and I want to go and do it all over again. And again. And again!

i bought these tickets as a gift for my boyfriend who has been a huge fan of depeche mode for years. im not really a fan, but i like their commercial stuff. regardless, the concert was great, packed with fans and had a great vibe overall. background images on the screen made me feel like i was still in the 80's. my boyfriend loved the concert, and im sure any fan would've too.

    Mode Universe Still Huge!

by funnboy on 2009-07-25Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

The boys still have it. Dave moved just like he did back in the day and really works the crowd. They played a lot of the new record while a few tracks didn't work very well live; they did make a good exception with 'Come Back' where noisy guitar was added to take place of the minimal tiny electro sounds found on the album version – successful in this attempt. Martin Gore gave it all like he usually does when he sang "Home" and a select few others. He glittery suit was awesome! The video projections included a 3D globe shaped screen which added some interesting images to the set. Videos and back drops varied and were creatively set to music. We didn't see the guys on screen much unfiltered, which let's face it, at this point in their lives is probably not a bad thing. Enjoy the Silence - entire venue was singing and clapping. It's amazing the power 3 people can have over tens of thousands. I don't think there was even 1 ticket left and the rain held off for the show which was great since the lawns were full too. Great show by a generation grounding band!

    Depeche Mode were amazing!

by MaryPoppins on 2009-07-25Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

I was blown away, what an amazing evening! I have never actually seen them play live before even though I have enjoyed their music for over 20 years, and they certainly played with lots of energy and verve. I loved the set, and the alternative arrangements of some of their songs. I was sitting on the lawns, the sound was great and the atmosphere lively and appreciative.

a must see for fans and elecronic junkies

by jenc on 2009-07-25Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

A beautiful night for an outdoor concert and a legendary band that definitely worked the show. The opening songs were presented with little audience connection. I'm an average fan and couldn;t recognize the first song and I wasn't alone. and Wrong was kinda thrown out ther as if to get it out of the way. They wormed up shortly after that but it too a while for the crowd to can up and sing along when prompted. I'd like to think it was the damp air that made the chorus' inaudible but I could see that the majority of people around me opted not to follow the bands lead. The band was showing patience and helped out the crowd remember the words to Question of time and Enjoy the Silence... (you now understand my aggravation with the crowd). The last half of the show felt really good and with 2 encore performances left me satisfied. All in all a good concert.

    Depeche Mode was amazing!

by tabbatha on 2009-07-25Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

Really enjoyed DM last night. Dave and Martin sounded exceptionally good vocally and were singing beautifully together like I've never seen them before. Some heavier sounds to some of their tracks worked well to add a new twist and the playlist was definitely a good mix of old and new. I have seen them seven times now and they never disappoint!

by jlopookie on 2009-07-25Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

Had a great time -- interesting mixed crowd... Played a lot from their new album but most people got really excited fo their classics. Only wish they had played ' Somebody', 'question of lust', 'blasphemous rumours', people are people...

    Good, but...

by Pickacub on 2009-07-25Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto

An energetic show overall...Depeche Mode clearly still has it after all these years, but it is hard to believe that they omitted some of their greatest hits. Not bad for an outdoor, muggy and grass seat show.
