by Chelletee on 2016-01-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

This play was amazing very much like the movie, music and singing were excellent the understudy played Johnny and he didn't really have ahold of his character like the others did! Excellent show highly recommended

    Absoutely worth seeing!

by speedyeagle16 on 2016-01-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I read some other reviews saying some scenes were cheesy and didn't live up to expectation...I completely disagree. There were some cheesy scenes, but they were meant to be that way...how else were they supposed to portray a lake scene on stage? The cast did an amazing job and the audience was laughing and clapping and singing along throughout almost the whole show. In my opinion, this show was way above what I expected! If you like the movie, you will love the musical!

    Disappointing

by Clarabell on 2016-01-19Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

While entertaining, I found the choreography weak and unpolished. It lacked professionalism and perfection. Though, the sets and backdrops, the musicians, and the 2 lead singers were very good. They did stick closely to the movie and portrayed the story very well. I also thought the costumes could have been better. I wish they had done more research of the types of dancing done in the early 60's. When they had the greatest biggest music numbers, the dancing was the weakest.

    Awesome

by Kayotah on 2016-01-19Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

The show was full of energy, wonderful dance and excellent music and singing. I recommend the experience and feel the audience's energy as well. Sadly, the woman two rows in front of our group filmed bits and pieces with her camera and the light was incredibly distracting, not to mention rude and against policy.

    Disappointing :0(

by WestKootenay on 2016-01-19Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

We were so excited to see this and came away disappointed. We expected a lot more dancing and singing. There were some great moments but the musical lacked passion and there seemed to be a disconnect somehow between the actors. Would not recommend, save your money.

Great fun! From the time the music started and the curtain rose to the very end it was fantastic . Singing and orchestra was great and performers were spot on.

    Dirty Dancing,

by 7Bananas on 2016-01-18Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

While the dancing and singing was good (as I would expect from a Broadway show), the set/props were lacking. The majority of the set was digitalized which, to me, is a cop-out of spending time on building and painting a set and props. It felt lazy to me. During one scene in particular, the two lead characters fall into (a digitalized image of) water and when they resurface, their hair wasn't even wet. Again, it felt very lazy and not to Broadway standards. The storyline and acting was good though. Baby was not like the original - much more whiny - but Johnny, and everyone else, was great.

    Fabulous play

by Budster1 on 2016-01-18Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Amazing stage scenery! So enjoyable with singing and dancing. One of the best productions we have seen. I am a senior and attended with my middle aged daughter and thirteen year old granddaughter. We made sure my granddaughter saw the movie beforehand so she could follow the story. We all agreed we would see it again!

    Dirty Dancing

by Jojoduck on 2016-01-17Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

I loved, loved, loved everything about the show! The story line was very close to the original movie. The actors (did a wonderful job and I loved how much they resembled the original movie actors Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey.) The dancing was awesome and the vocals were amazing! I loved the props and loved the screens that came down and made it so realistic for the different scenes, (water, etc). It is definitely a show I would see again!!!

Average Actors - Very Good Soloists & Sets

by Microlass on 2016-01-17Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I've given this show 3 stars based purely upon the performances of the actors and their delivery of lines. For example, Baby and her father never truly embraced their characters, nor delivered their lines with believable passion. Across the board, characters delivered their lines by yelling and were of amateur calibre. Best of the performance were the Soloists. Each soloist was awesome and talented - with perfect pitch and projection. They were this show's salvation. On a further positive note, set construction and scene changes were professional and believable. Fabulous use of opaque screens to depict backgrounds were clever and good.

TO MUCH TALKING OR SUPPOSED ACTING----GOOD MUSIC BUT NOT ENOUGH OF IT---WAS CERTAINLY NOT MY IDEA OF A GREAT PERFORMANCE

    Lots of fun.

by shaza on 2016-01-17Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

We had great orchestra seats and could catch every nuance of each performance. The set design was ingenious, giving the feel of the movie with seamless transitions from one scene to the next. The musical score was great, it included songs the original movies director had wanted but not been able to obtain permission to use. The dancing was very good. The actress who played the character of baby tended to be a little flat or wooden at times. Caustumes were reminiscent of the original movie.
