2013 saw a double release for Dream Theater: a self-titled studio album and Live at Luna Park, an album that features material taken from the band's A Dramatic Turn of Events tour in 2012. This latter release is a treat, featuring two DVDs and three CDs of material that highlights the prog metal theatrics delighting ticket buyers for over 25 years. These theatrics revolve around the band's consummate artistry. Dream Theater's prog roots compel them to focus on musical craftsmanship as the driving force of their performance. However, serious musicianship is not without its spark of playfulness. A love of quirky humor often pops up when the band performs in concert. It's not uncommon for ticket buyers to be pleasantly surprised by alternating set lists, musical quotes and spontaneous bursts of improvisation. Members of the band have even swapped instruments mid-set just to keep things fresh.
Dream Theater's newest, self-titled album contains all the elements that make the band stand out among their peers. The opening, "False Awakening Suite," sets a cinematic tone for the rest of the tracks. The hard-driving "The Enemy Inside" invokes shades of classic Iron Maiden, yet with Dream Theater's own unique twist. The band has been going hard and strong since 1985, when three music school graduates started the band as a tribute to their heroes. Armed with a stack of potent demos, they hit the NYC circuit, shopping tapes and strengthening their live act. Each new album chronicles their steady artistic progression, as constant touring helps to keep things fresh and their musicianship alive. Dream Theater's music is a lively blend of heavy metal and prog rock, with jazz and classical elements thrown in for a healthy amount of spice.

I love DT, and have been following them for almost 20 years. I have been to almost every concert they played in Argentina , and this was my first time in Canada. They are DT, so expectations are always high. But... They didn't sound very well. I think every instrument was just too loud so it was difficult to figure out what you were listening to. I don't know if it might have been due to the venue? But the previous band (David Townsend) sounded amazing.
First, Animals as Leaders has a new fan. Loved what they did! Second, Townsend's songs were all the same. Not a fan. Third, DT rocked hard! Loved it, but have to say that James LaBrie has lost his vocal range now. He was not at all what I expected. So, a let down there. I think they should have played more instrumental songs and has him sing to a minimum. And DT should drop Townsend and play a longer set. DT was too short. For a band with long songs, they might have stayed out longer.
Amazing show as usual, they always deliver high quality music
This is the 4th time I've seen Dream Theater but have to say I left feeling disappointed. James LaBrie was off. First thing when he came out he dropped the mic and it went flying and he had a tough time hitting the notes. It felt like he didn't want to be there. He mentioned that the last time he was in Vancouver, it was 2010 but nope, the shirt I was wearing said 2014 on it! The band was fantastic... Now, Devin Townsend on the otherhand was amazing! I have never seen him and was so impressed. He connected with the audience, told some jokes and was so good vocally and musically! A+ for him!
Dream theatre was incredible. Master piece of musicianship and sound was best I have ever heard. And I have seen probably 500 bands. 10 out of 10. So pumped dude. Favourite band
4.5/5 Stars! Absolutely amazing concert, all 3 acts are impeccable. Animals as Leaders is an absolute beast of a prog metal band, by far the heaviest set of the 3. Devin Townsend…it’s fuckin Devin Townsend, enough said. Such a great setlist & very good at crowd interaction. Then there was Dream Theatre, what can you say about them that hasn’t been said already. Glad I finally got to see them live, can finally cross them off the bucket list. Only complaints that I could have was not enough back & forth battles between the band members, the setlist was a tad on the short side (roughly 90 mins) & personally I was hoping for a longer, more elaborate band jam at the end. With all the talent on stage I had my fingers crossed to witness a finish from the pages of g3 which petrucci has been a part of. Those few things would’ve set it off to a 5-star show imo but pretty minor things to complain about. Would absolutely go again & will definitely be keeping an eye open for the return of any of these bands
Every band was fantastic! All the sets were right on time, sound was great, had a perfect view from the first balcony. Would definitely recommend!
Third time seeing Dream Theater First time seeing Animals As Leaders and Devin Townsend. Firm fan now Will see them again
Unbelievable to see 3 master of their craft bands at the same time Best ever
Friendly staff at the concessions, and the venue was beautiful.
Set started with three new songs (The Alien, Answering the call, Sleeping Giant) but then went back to Awake (Caught in a web). Understandably, James didn't try to run his voice by transposing the screaming section. Big surprise when they switched to 6DOIT and played the last three songs of side 2. Pull me under was part of the set, of course and sounded fantastic, like the rest. JP's guitar sounded heavenly again. After the show I waited outside near the buses for the band and with some patience got to meet James and Mike (who chatted with us for almost half an hour!) It took until 1:30 AM for JP to come out and he was so kind as to come over, pose for pictures and even sign my Majesty guitar! This made everyone's day!
All 3 bands were spectacular! Really wanted to see Dream Theater live in forever. They did not dissapoint, best performance I’ve have the pleasure to witness in my entire life. Loved it! Will forever think back and remember this awesome night! Thank you for making a dream come true and can only hope to see you live again in the future!
Grew up listening to Dream Theater, Scenes from a Memory, Train of Thought, Octavarium and now, A view from the top of the world, are for sure my favourites. Being born in South America, my chance to ever see them LIVE were close to none. Fast foward 20 years and by some struck of luck they decided to play in my town. A Small intimate venue, I'm sure they would've probably liked to play in the arena, but the sound was PERFECT (unlike other concerts I've been to) and the performance, best one I have ever had the pleasure to witness. Thank you for making one of my dreams come true. Will forever cherish this memory, the merch I got, lol, and can only hope to be able to see them again in the future. You could tell they still have it, the magic was still there, they truly love to perform! Thank you again!
Love Dream Theatre since 1991, never dated always impressive and unique in their crafts.
I had never listened to the music by Animals as Leaders or Devin Townsend before they were both a great surprise and I will be adding them to my playlist. Dream Theater was simply amazing! The show left everyone feeling uplifted and inspired… what an awesome band and a wonderful show!!
Great show all around. Liked the 3 band format. Excellent venue.
Animals as Leaders, Devin Townsend and Dream Theater were all amazing. Every band engaged with the crowd and kept everyone entertained. Seating was spectacular and access in the venue was perfect.
