DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS IN CONCERT:

Southern rockers Drive-By Truckers have a penchant for tradition, recording their studio albums in analog and insisting on releasing their records on vinyl. The band's traditional approach extends to their beloved live concerts, where craft and musicianship take center stage and marathon sets are the norm. The Truckers may orbit just under the mainstream's radar, but their devoted followers wouldn't have it any other way — as one of the best-kept secrets in music, the band has fans eagerly awaiting their intimate 2014 tour dates in support of English Oceans, their tenth studio album.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1996, the Drive-By Truckers' path to success was slow but steady, aided by a grassroots online presence and their constant touring. Following the release of their first two albums Gangstabilly (1998) and Pizza Deliverance (1999), the band embarked on their first US tour, further added to their reputation as consummate performers with electrifying live sets. 2005's The Dirty South marked the band's first appearance on the Billboard 200, which the band has steadily climbed with each subsequent release. Following the release of their tenth studio album English Oceans in 2014, the band will hit the road for another rollicking tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Once again DBT do not disappoint. This is a band that puts out excellent albums, and a rare occurrence where they are even better live."

"I have seen DBT 30+ times and they always make me look around for the next show! I love their energy and how they play off each other! I have never been to a bad show and this one was no different."

"As always, DBT kept me smiling and singing. Hood and Cooley took turns telling us our favorite yarns, up close and personal."

  • Great but no encore

    by D. R. on 2022-04-25Rating: 3 out of 5

The show was really good, crowd was smallish but enthusiastic. 27 songs in most shows across USA and only 21 in Ottawa/no encore. Disappointed in that re: missed some great music.

  • Old 97's was AMAZING!

Sound quality perfect ,rich; lyrics are cruel, true, echoe life and entertaining; performance was spectacular, full of energy & charisma ; instrumentals were exceptional. We danced, sang and cheered through the show - thank-you Old 97.s!

Great show! The set list was excellent. These guys have so much depth. Three guitars in sync. Wow! The only downside was Patterson spitting on stage. I found that insulting. Coolery is the best man and Jeff is multi talented.

  • excellent from start to finish

a great show with a very nice mix of songs from both recent and old albums. The opening act had major sound issues so I was worried DBT would too but their sound was great , in fact some of the best I've heard at the Commodore.

  • like DBT but

    by pandora5150 on 2011-03-14Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

guitars were cranked a bit too loud for this old timer. Great band, lots of stuff going on but the mix wasn't great.

  • One of the top live bands out there now!

by Cookietin on 2010-04-12Lee's Palace - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

What a fantastic show. Langhorne Slim, the opener, was dymanic and full of energy. The DBT were great as well. This was my second time seeing them and they just keep getting better. They embody that rock 'n' roll spirit like no other band out there right now. Wish I could catch them opening for Tom Petty this summer...

  • DBT Rocks Lee's Palace

After two and a half hours or more, the fans were as breathless as the band. Starting the night by thanking the citizens of Toronto for their hospitality during their stay in our beautiful city, Patterson Hood welcomed everyone to "The Big To Do" and riffed the opener to "Charlie Drag the Lake" from their new album. The band didn't stop until they had mined their past and celebrated their future with the sold out crowd. As usual the Drive By Truckers put every once of sweat and blood into the set and didn't stop until everyone had gotten their money's worth. If you like good old fashioned rock and roll, mixed with punk, country and just about anything else you can think of...if you like your rock and roll to be played by working folk and not prima donna jet setting rock stars...if you want a band that is as real as it gets...stick out your thumb and try to hitch a ride with the Drive By Truckers.
