  • Excellent comeback!

by mtrottier on 2016-11-27National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - OttawaRating: 5 out of 5

Really enjoyed this intimate concert. She was in fine form as was Petr Cancura's band. All excellent musicians. Glad Kathleen quit the coffee business :)

  • Fantastic show

I've been a fan of Edwards' songwriting for a long time but this was my first time seeing her live, and it was a real treat. Not only is she a great live performer but her band was fantastic.

A very unique Canadian artist. So refreshing and distinct from many of the female vocalist of today. Kathleen Edwards voice lyrics and music arrangements are distinctly her own. She can rock and still maintain compassion and feeling and plays up her band with a lot of great guitar playing and letting loose. It was so great to hear her songs live after listening to all her cd's the past seven years or so. When did "Failer" first appear when she played the wpg folk fest the first time? She really has her very own sound the same way Neil Young with Crazy Horse developed that grunge sound years ago. I look forward to her next album.

Wish jenn grant had brought her full band to do her songs justice. That being said, great show.

  • Great music, great artist, great talent!

by Lemonhead on 2012-04-14The Phoenix Concert Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Kathleen Edwards is for me, one of the unsung heroes of Canadian music, and not just that, music in general. In a time of formulaic artists and disposable teennie boppers, Kathleen Edwards embodies the steady quality, originality and creativity of music. Her blend of folk, blues and rock is as refreshing and exciting to listen to now as it was when she first burst onto the music scene some 10 years ago. I cannot recomend her highly enough. She has a great presence on stage, a very intimate and direct rapport with the fans. What you see is what you get, there are no gimmicks, no put-ons, just a rock-n-rolla chick through and through. Her sound live is truly excellent, and her band is compossed of highly talented individuals as it becomes apparent right at the outset of the concert. If you crave substance, if you crave talent...in other words if you crave good music, then you certainly cannot go wrong with Kathleen Edwards. Proof is in the pudding as they say, and her new album "Voyageur" is everybit as complex and layered as her first three releases, "Failer", "Back To Me" and "Asking For Flowers". Although about 4 years have passed since her last album was released, "Voyageur" finds her in true form, actually the content and sound denote a growth and a maturity in her sonically as well as a singer-songwriter. This is a grown-up Kathleen Edwards...and I like her very much!

  • Excellent Concert Kathleen!

by MGFan on 2012-04-12Meyer Horowitz Theatre - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

Edmonton - Set List contained a good deal of the songs from Voyager and a few gems from previous albums. Voice quality and musicianship were excellent (despite a surprize insight Kathleen relayed during the concert that she was having to take steroids to keep up her singing). Kathleen played a variety of guitars and the violin. The audience was extremely quiet throughout the concert which may have misrepresented the enthusiasm and the engagement of the audience toward the performance. (PS: We loved it!!). Enjoyed the variety of upbeat to slower songs. Love the songs from the new album. Hanah Georges was the opening act- was glad to see her as the opening act as I am a fan. However this was never indicated on the Edmonton ticket nor the website for Edmonton. She never introduced herself and was extremely understated and low energy throughout the concert. The music was very rudimentary with only 2 people but the singing showcased her talent for the most part. I really was disappointed with her set list. She played very few of her more well known songs ( glad to hear the national though...sung due to a request).

  • Fantastic Concert Kathleen!

by MGFan on 2012-04-12Myer Horowitz Theatre - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

Concert song list contained many songs from the new album (which is what I believe to be her best album yet) and some of her bigger hits from previous albums. The voice quality and musicianship was excellent (despite the surprizing comment that she was having to take steroids to continue singing). Great variety between upbeat and slower songs. The audience was very quiet throughout the concert, which seemed to make the artists (especially Hannah Georges) uncomfortable. Just a note if either Kathleen or Hannah are reading this... the silence does NOT mean the audience was not engaged and enjoying the experience. I was happy to see that Hannah Georges was opening, it was not listed on the ticket nor on the website- for Edmonton. Hannah however never introduced herself at the beginning of the concert, and seemed extremely understated and low energy throughout. I was disappointed that she didn't play more of her well known songs (other than 'the national'~ by request and chit chat ).

  • Kathleen Edwards + Myer Horowitz = Great Concert

by danceinstyle on 2012-04-11Myer Horowitz Theatre - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Kathleen Edwards concert was fantastic. She is a very expressive singer and she left you feeling that you could achieve anything. Great artist. Great band. Great opening act. Great night. Not much more to say.

  • Kathleen Edwards kicks major butt!

by Jetranger on 2012-04-09Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Kathleen Edwards is a true Canadian Gem! She can blow you away with a heartfelt ballad, and then rock out with the best. She has a wicked sense of humour and connected easily with the audience. Major song writing talent, NOT to be missed when she comes back to town!!!

  • Kathleen Edwards after a 3 hour wait

by CBCForever on 2012-04-09Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 2 out of 5

Something is plain wrong when we line up outside at 7:30pm for the Commodore Ballroom doors to open at 8pm. Opening act starts at 9pm only to wait for Kathleen Edwards to make her appearance at 10:15pm. Ticketmaster or the Commodore should post this "warning, you may have to wait almost 3 hours for the artist to start performing". I can almost understand if this was "Prince" but not Kathleen Edwards....come on....
