Eddie Izzard is a British comedian and actor born in Aden, Yemen. The genderfluid performer got her start in sketch comedy and street performance before launching her stand-up comedy career. Known for her rambling, stream-of-consciousness monologue style and self-referencing pantomime, Izzard won two Primetime Emmys for her 2000 special Dress to Kill. The comedian’s film and TV credits include Ocean’s Twelve (2004), Ocean’s Thirteen (2007), The Riches (2007), Valkyrie (2008), Cars 2 (2011), and The LEGO Batman Movie (2017). Izzard also earned a Tony nomination for the Broadway revival of A Day in the Death of Joe Egg. In 2024, she premiered her one-person adaptation of Hamlet, which will transfer to Chicago and London following its triple-extended run in New York City.

Eddie Izzard was incredible. The show started at 9 p.m., and finished up at midnight. It was 3 hours of Eddie Izzard, and he rocked. We weren't treated to the standard up-and-coming new comedian. We just got Eddie Izzard (which is what we paid for) and he was fantastic. He was funny. He acknowledged jokes that didn't go over so well, which of course made the audiance laugh. He did a fantastic bit in Latin. The man is pretty close to being a genious. Very, very intelligent.
What isn't there to love about Eddie Izzard? I was looking forward to taking my boyfriend to see my favorite comedian for months! And Eddie delivered! A god on heels I say! Well... not that I believe in a god... but if there was one I think he was on that stage telling wicked jokes. Some lady threw chocolate on stage for Eddie 5 minutes into the second act... throwing him right off in his rant... He took the time to kick the chocolate off to the side, chase it, and then eat it.
Side-splitting, classic Eddie. Who could ask for anything more? Funniest comic I've ever seen for years now and I would see him a thousand more times given the opportunity. Bravo Eddie!
I loved the show, was entertained for 2 and half hours. We definately got our money's worth and then some.
If I could rate the show I zero, I would have, that's how bad it was. His act wasn't funny at all. I can normally laugh at any comic, even bad ones have a few good lines....but him.... AWFUL!
We went to the show last night, never having been to an Eddie Izzard show before. He was very funny. But better than funny, he was clever with it. Not just a bunch of stand up riffs, he wandered all over the place while the eye of the god Ping stared through a window upstage (the eye was a little freaky since we were in the Mezzanine level so it was pretty much right my eyeline but it was a very clever effect), and pulled it all together at the end. And the shoes, oh the shoes!! They were fabulous, my friend!! But seriously, he was funny AND he was witty, and he was irreverent, which I'm always in favour of. We totally enjoyed it, laughed hard and had a great night. Thanks Eddie!
Well, it is truly wonderful to be entertained by someone who can tickle your funny bone while stimulating your cerebral cortex. Note to self ... cough up for better seats next time!
Eddie certainly did not disappoint...my face still hurts from laughing...by far, the funniest man (woman) eve to grace the stage in high heels...how do you walk in those?...can't imagine how his mind works and what takes him to the places he goes, but thanks for taking us with you....Jazz Chicken?...What the hell?
An absolutely terrific show! Wildly funny, intelligent, and full of lines you will be repeating to yourself with delight. The man is a genius and a real showman. He had the sell-out audience on their feet several times applauding. Please, please, may he come back to Ottawa.................
Very Funny - It was evident that many of the audience had already seen his DVD collection and from the reaction last night Eddie Izzard should do "his thing" again in Ottawa.
Sublime, hilarious, oft bizarre. A comdey genius. The funniest tranny on the planet!
Eddie Izzard performed at the NAC last night. He was nothing short of brilliant and had me in stitches the entire time. Heels and make-up aside he bombarded the Ottawa audience with funny stories, humorous insights, social observations and a deliriously erractic mind that spewed out hilarious streams of conscious. A total blast and a wicked time for all in attendence. Cheers to you , Eddie !!
I am a big Eddie fan, loved the TV show that he was in here too. I can understand if some people don't get the sometimes mumbling delivery but that is Eddie! I was very impressed, his humour is well thought out, intellectual and silly at times with some great fleeting references to older "bits" from older shows that loyal fans would definately enjoy - Pavlov's Dog/Cat for example. Go check Eddie out, a great night out. And, unlike other comedians that clock watch as if they have somewhere to go Eddie just goes straight in to it and finishes when he has finished what he has to say. 2hrs at least I think. Massey Hall is cramped and needs updating for facilities though.
although we did not know who Eddie was - we went based on the rave reviews that he has received. When we got there we were very impressed that he sold out two shows and when the lights dimmed people were already giving him a standing ovation! Unfortunatley for us we did not understand almost anything he said, did not get the grunting humour and just overall did not enjoy the show 5 min into it. It was a long and painful wait to intermission which we ran out of there.
Eddie Izzard has so much fun onstage you can't help but have a good time along with him! Not only is he funny, but intelligent and uninhibited. Funny without the shock tactics, an absolute genius! Laughed my head off!
Having watched a lot of Eddie Izzard on Youtube and other TV shows, I was disappointed with his live show. There was a lot of "dead air" between his humorous comments, some of which were very very funny. I am glad that I went to the show but would think twice before going to see him live again.
Eddie Izzard exceeded my expectations, which were high going into the event. From beginning to end he delivered his unique wit touching on the history of Earth, human evolution and religion. Eddie Izzard live is a must see for any fan and really anyone with an open mind and good sense of humor.
Thanks to Eddie, every organ had a great time. Laughter is the best medicine and a big thank you to Dr. Izzard.
We celebrated our 23 Wedding Anniversary by attending Eddie Izzard's performance on Friday evening. Mr. Izzard did not disappoint. What a terrific show! This was the first "stand-up" type show we've ever attended. Actually, Eddie’s shows are more like a 2 hour, slightly insane, hilarious, monologue. Eddie is fantastic. His humour requires a sharp mind to fully appreciate his talent. We learned a valuable lesson in attending this performance - Pay extra and get tickets that are as close to the stage as possible! I spent most of the evening sitting on the edge of my seat hanging on Eddie's every word! Not being able to see his facial expressions made a real difference, compared to watching a DVD's of his performance. Needless to say, next time we want to be up close and personal to fully enjoy the experience. I might even suggests a large TV screen could have been set up, to help those of us further back in the theatre. We were seated in the mezzanine so we were not exactly in the “nose-bleed” section. I would have enjoyed the show more if I had of been 10th row centre, Orchestra section. However, this was not the fault of Mr. Izzard. He gave us his all, for a good two hours, and we loved the show! Eddie has a style all his own and you had better keep up! I kept saying to my husband, "can you imagine being in this man's brain!" Eddie is incredibly intelligent, a huge history and language buff, and he weaves a terrific path that leaves you laughing and feeling both uplifted and thoughtful when the curtains come down. Eddie's comedy is not in your face, it isn't slap stick, and you actually have to think to truly appreciate it! You had better have a good imagination to fully appreciate Eddie's wild ride! Good thing we do! Three days later, I'm still laughing as l find myself visualizing some of the hilarious scenerios Mr. Izzard painted for us. That's one of the most wonderful parts of Eddie's craft, it get’s better as time goes on! I’m going to buy the DVD of the show so I can enjoy it over and over again. Looking forward to his next tour, and we’ll be front row centre for it! Thanks Eddie! We love you! Oh and BTW Eddie, ...if we were British citizens...we’d vote for you in ten years!
