About

Eddie Izzard is a British comedian and actor born in Aden, Yemen. The genderfluid performer got her start in sketch comedy and street performance before launching her stand-up comedy career. Known for her rambling, stream-of-consciousness monologue style and self-referencing pantomime, Izzard won two Primetime Emmys for her 2000 special Dress to Kill. The comedian’s film and TV credits include Ocean’s Twelve (2004), Ocean’s Thirteen (2007), The Riches (2007), Valkyrie (2008), Cars 2 (2011), and The LEGO Batman Movie (2017). Izzard also earned a Tony nomination for the Broadway revival of A Day in the Death of Joe Egg. In 2024, she premiered her one-person adaptation of Hamlet, which will transfer to Chicago and London following its triple-extended run in New York City.

  • Eddie for Mayor

by MarathonMartin on 2013-11-27Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

This is the second time Sue and I have been to see Eddie in Calgary and again he delivered a knockout punch. His comedy is top draw and, as a marathon runner, I respect the work he does for others. We'll be back.

Everyone needs to see Eddie Izzard at least once in their life. A master of story telling, historia, and rubbish makes this comedian extremely special. No one can link historical events to modern life quite like Izzard. I do hope the future Mayor of London takes the time to visit us again, he is fascinating to watch and listen to... may Darth Vader and God be with you... but watch out for Mr. Stevens and his pans of death.

  • Sounds funny?

by Snoopdog4 on 2013-11-25Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

Eddie Izzard is well known to me being that I originate from London (UK). I loved the performance overall and found the first half better than the second but this is just a personal point of view. His ability to link almost everything to the shows main frame of human sacrifice was brilliant and extremely funny. Go see the show and enjoy. Only negative was the sound quality. Not sure if this is the fault of the venue or Eddie Izzard's use of his microphone. I know Canadian friends I went with struggled to understand parts of the act and they blamed this on his accent and the sound quality.

  • Eddie shines and makes an evening unforgetable

by Uncaged on 2013-11-25Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Eddie had a lot of new material to make us laugh. Even used some current events to make us laugh a little which he is not known for. But the evening went extremely well even referencing some older material for all the long term Eddie fans.

  • Eddie Izzard is ALWAYS amazing!

by Everybodysmommy on 2013-11-25Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Terrific show, Eddie is insanely smart, and probably just a little insane too. He definitely gave us our money's worth, and the q&a in the lobby after was icing on the cake!

  • Laughed until my face hurt!

by jazzyjess on 2013-11-25Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

Mr. Izzard put on an entertaining show for more than two hours! Only complaint was the sound wasn't great and at times you couldn't hear Mr. Izzard over the roars of laughter.

  • Pretty dull

by db2010 on 2013-11-25Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 2 out of 5

I was having trouble hearing him when he kept moving his microphone all over the place - sometimes it was loud and sometimes it was mumble. We left at half time because my husband and I had seen much better at the Edmonton Fringe...we were both very disappointed with him.

  • Eddy Izzard - Fantastic!

Great show, loved every minute of it. He was so funny the entire room was filled with laughter.

  • Not as funny as he used to be...

by Frenchkonnexion on 2010-06-03Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

I saw Eddie Izzard perform three times in the past decade (Circle, Sexie and Stripped tours), and this last time was a little bit disappointing. He's obviously passed his peak, and isn't as good at improvising as he used to be. He stuck to his usual themes (history, religion, etc.) and because of that, even though the jokes were new, the show felt a little tired. Also, the man cannot hold a microphone! Why not use a headset? This way, I could have understood a little more of what he had to say instead of trying to read his lips because he was holding his mic to far from his mouth! If you want to discover the comic genius Eddie Izzard, better stick to older material. Get the DVDs of "Unrepeatable", "Glorious" or "Dress to Kill". Those performances are much funnier...

  • Eddie Izzard is fantastic!

by WildIrishRosie on 2010-06-02National Arts Centre - OttawaRating: 5 out of 5

This man had the audience laughing for 21/2 hours! Cross between Monty Python and Robin Williams. Have to give him more credit for squeezing into those jeans and standing in those stiletto shoes for the whole show! Love him to death!!

  • Love Eddie

Big crush on him.... I've been dying to see him perform live for AGES... couldn't stop laughing all night... loved the heels by the way :) - Megg

  • Eddie Izzard is amazing!!!

He was brilliant and well dressed as always. His ad-libbing and interactions with the audience made the show that much more brilliant.

  • Eddie Izzard - hard-working and generous

by wnel on 2010-06-01Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I had the privilege of seeing Eddie in Ottawa last Friday and again in Toronto on Monday. Both shows were high energy and very, very funny. He is a generous performer, even sticking around afterwards to sign autographs for anyone who asked, even though he was obviously exhausted after a two-hour-plus show. What really amazed me, though, is the comparison of the two shows, which were only three days apart. The basic structure was there, and the big jokes were all there, but I would guess that about 50% of it was different between the two shows. He left some bits out of the Toronto show and added other bits. His delivery differed, sometimes a little and sometimes a lot. I think this probably is the reason it all sounds so fresh even though he has done it a hundred times. If you get the chance, go and see him. Good bang for the buck, and a very enjoyable evening overall. Thanks, Eddie!

  • Izzard was great to watch and learn history with.

by Prezlongkey on 2010-05-31Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

From the moment Eddie stepped out, my family and I laughed. The only problem we had with moments in the show were when he pulled back his voice to focus on the front row crowd witha quip, we lost his words but followed the story line just fine. It was unfortunate that my knowledge of history caused some suffering in getting it at times but still brilliant, colourful and worth every penny and the 1.5 hr drive. We had great seats but next time we up front for this guy. BRAVO!!!!

  • Didn't like it

by aromerob on 2010-05-31Massey Hall - TorontoRating: 1 out of 5

Too much fluff... inaudible and silly voices. He also forgot what to say at least 3 times. In all I think there was only about 5min of good material.

  • Greatest Comedian Ever

Eddie has so much class & talent. You can't help but giggle yourself silly during the whole show. He looked fabulous and those heels...

Absolutely hilarious and worth every penny!! A little late getting started at the beginning and after the intermission, but well worth the wait. I would definitely pay to see him again!
