About

Eddie Izzard is a British comedian and actor born in Aden, Yemen. The genderfluid performer got her start in sketch comedy and street performance before launching her stand-up comedy career. Known for her rambling, stream-of-consciousness monologue style and self-referencing pantomime, Izzard won two Primetime Emmys for her 2000 special Dress to Kill. The comedian’s film and TV credits include Ocean’s Twelve (2004), Ocean’s Thirteen (2007), The Riches (2007), Valkyrie (2008), Cars 2 (2011), and The LEGO Batman Movie (2017). Izzard also earned a Tony nomination for the Broadway revival of A Day in the Death of Joe Egg. In 2024, she premiered her one-person adaptation of Hamlet, which will transfer to Chicago and London following its triple-extended run in New York City.

  • The Church of Izzard

We showed up as devout disciples of the inimitable, rambling and surreal teachings of Mr Izzard and left with a good lesson in intelligent hilarity! Eddie looked every inch the professional, action transvestite in slick heels, great tailoring and killer eye makeup He took us on a journey of Neanderthals and Spartan sheep, Nazi decapitations and terrified squirrels, the usual really! I've been watching his live performances all over the world for more than 10 years now and the thing that always astounds me is his all encompassing ease with people. If you have the opportunity to catch this living comedic genius in action then you'll be welcomed into the insanity of Izzard with grace and joy. If he's still laughing at his own jokes on stage, then you know his stuff is still 'make your tummy hurt' hilarious. Thank you again Mr Izzard!!!!!

  • Eddie is Divine!

I know he says he doesn't believe there is a master mind behind all this....but he could definitely apply for the job! So funny and brilliant and graceful in stilettos...that's a real man...we laughed and wanted to hit rewind to hear and see it all again. Big Love for Eddie!

  • Irresistibly Silly!

by tobogigio on 2010-05-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Eddie Izzard observed that it might be a challenge to try and explain the content of his show, and indeed it is. (For me anyway.) For instance, try to tell the bit about a squirrel, one of the few surviving animals not eaten by prey while aboard The Ark, being interviewed by the BBC reporter whose attempts to interview other disembarking survivors are ignored on account of their preference to be interviewed by American reporters. Or try to explain Eddie Izzard, a transvestite, imitating homo-sapiens communicating with each other about the presence of "God" before the existence of any proper form of language. I laughed so hard I was quite literally crying. Fused with intelligence, irresistibly silly and fabulously funny, you have to experience an Eddie Izzard show for yourself.

maybe we had set our expectations too high - not the consummate entertainer we were hoping for.

  • Eddie Izzard is brilliant

by KenW on 2010-05-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

The intelligence and cutting nature of his humour is delivered with such glee it is absolutely enthralling. This is humour at its finest: erudite and barbed.

  • wicked smart and funny transvestite

    by ctk1 on 2010-05-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Eddie was brilliant last night! He carried the theme of his show throughout the performance, even while ad libbing. My only criticism? The sound. I don't know anything about engineering it, all I know is that I was in the mezzanine section and it was hard to hear him over laughter some of the time. I heard similar comments from other audience members not with my group, too. Perhaps there wasn't enough base? What a brilliant performer... all that on 5-inch spike heels, too!

  • Terrible and NOT funny!

by Torifan on 2010-05-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 1 out of 5

Our first time to see him live and what a disappointment. Maybe there was a chuckle or two but not one laugh-out-loud moment. I don't think there was a single bit that was as funny as his least funny bit in previous performances. How bad was it? I was actually disappointed when he came back out for an encore! I should've left during the intermission.

  • Warning...Deep Belly Laughter Ahead!!

by moedonna on 2010-05-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

6 of us friends spent a evening with Eddie Izzard and we will not forget this experience! He is a truly amazing entertainer who has the ability to make you laugh when your stomach says..please NO MORE LAUGHTER! We were all trying not to interact with his performance as we didn't want to miss a single word from him...but no luck..just toooo darn funny! We would suggest that the Queen Elizabeth Theatre improve their sound system as we were finding it very hard to hear him. All in all...thank you Eddie for a great evening..until we meet again! Love from your fans in Vancouver/Langley area!!

  • Eddie Izzard the strange bird!

    by kelly9 on 2010-05-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

I thought he was quite funny but we were pretty high up in the seating so it was hard to see his facial expressions which is definitely part of his comedy. I also found the seating to be very tight. Eddie Izzard was his usual silly self. Funny and Entertaining!

  • Hilarity!

by LissaPanda on 2010-05-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Eddie Izzard was amazing. I've always loved his comedy but this was the first time I'd ever been to one of his shows. Absolutely unforgettable and enjoyable. =)

  • It was just OK...nothing spectacular

by Ally69 on 2010-05-23Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 2 out of 5

There were some funny parts, but they were few and far between. For $80 per ticket I really expected to laugh my butt off. I have seen many comedy shows before and this was by far one of the most disappointing.

  • Eddie was amazing.

by SansdeFrance on 2010-05-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

You just gotta be there. It is well worth it even if you don't know anything about him. The guy uses a lot of history but makes it fun for everyone. Attending Latin lessons before the show will help a little.

  • History by Eddie

by Kevlar on 2010-05-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

This was a great show. Not his best material but still very funny. You should watch old clips of his as he sometimes makes reference to his previous popular jokes. He still explains it but it adds to your enjoyment if you do actually know his stuff. He had a few moments when he lost most of us but overall it was a very enjoyable, entertaining, funny event.

enjoyed what I could hear. Found his voice hard to hear at times ( not just because of the laughter) The sound qualitiy better in the second half of the show.

  • Eddie delivers!

by tugman on 2010-05-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Two hours flew by, Eddie did a great job of entertaining the crowd and making everyone have a good time. Who doesn't love historic humour from a transvestite????

  • Blah blah

by Louella on 2010-05-23Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

It was not his best show! There was a lot of delay between jokes that was filled with mindless babble or just noises. When the punchline finally arrived, we missed out often as we had phased out from the dribble. We sat next to a lady who howled and clapped at every sound - I'm not sure she was laughing at the comedy or just the fact she was seeing Eddie Izzard. Shame as I really enjoy his comedy usually butthe actual show wasn't up to his usual quality.

  • Totally awesome and still original!

    by 20somethin on 2010-05-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Eddie Izzard is still doing it improv but still s amazing as ever! All of his material was original and fresh and it's not just sheer repeats... The theater was pretty much full and everyone had a great time. Make sure you know some of your history, some linguistics and some science, coz most of his material mocks events/theories that if you haven't heard about, wouldn't understand.

  • Really poor Mr Izzard

by stonemam on 2010-05-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 1 out of 5

This performance can be best be described by the audience reaction. Huge cheers and applause when he walked onto the stage at the start. By the end the enthusiasm had waned and there was almost relief that it was all over with muted applause at the end. A number of people fell asleep!! Enough said

  • Eddie Great - Sound BAD!

by Neilprivate on 2010-05-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 1 out of 5

Sadly this performance was completely ruined byt he fact we couldn't hear the show. Upon approaching the lightin guy and explaining that we couldn't hear anything at the back of the room... I was told he couldn't do anything he was the lighting guy. Way to go... so he doesn't know the sound guy? They can't talk? Needless to say, at best we heard 75% of Eddie's words, missed much of the nuance and antyhing under a laugh was completely drowned. as with any comedian you need to hear it ALL to get into the groove... there were great moments when it was obvious what he was saying... but the rest of the show was a wash because of the outrageously bad sound. If the Queen E is at failt they should refund... if Eddie's crew is at fault.. they need earing tests and to resit some engineering exams... that was WOEFUL!

  • Exceeded my expectations

    by SkullTrail2010 on 2010-05-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Eddie Izzard is without a doubt an amazing stage performer. The humour was, despite being thematic, fresh and spontaneous. No previous materials were used which I appreciated. The transitions between topics were definitely unscripted and very funny. I didn't feel the show drag at any point. Eddie continued his tradition of delivering charming intellectually based humour. Well worth it.
