About

Eddie Izzard is a British comedian and actor born in Aden, Yemen. The genderfluid performer got her start in sketch comedy and street performance before launching her stand-up comedy career. Known for her rambling, stream-of-consciousness monologue style and self-referencing pantomime, Izzard won two Primetime Emmys for her 2000 special Dress to Kill. The comedian’s film and TV credits include Ocean’s Twelve (2004), Ocean’s Thirteen (2007), The Riches (2007), Valkyrie (2008), Cars 2 (2011), and The LEGO Batman Movie (2017). Izzard also earned a Tony nomination for the Broadway revival of A Day in the Death of Joe Egg. In 2024, she premiered her one-person adaptation of Hamlet, which will transfer to Chicago and London following its triple-extended run in New York City.

  • Where was Eddie?

by mnicona on 2010-05-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

Did Eddie change his normal content and approach for a North American audience? He certainly wasn't up to his usual standard as he is back in the UK....his whole subject was a little boring and his normal crude, funny and sarcastic self just didn't seem to be there. If North American audiences can't handle his normal routine, then I wouldn't bother. There was certainly some good elements to the show, but in general it felt a bit of a let down!

  • Eddie Izzard not so Izzie

by RIKYRE on 2010-05-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 2 out of 5

I was very disappointed in Eddie Izzards performance last night. I am a huge fan but his new routine just wasn't that funny.Oh sure i laughed at his usual run offs of topic that he is famous for but i just didn't find the "meat" of his routine making my gut hurt from laughing as he has done in the past. i also found it hard to hear him at times because of the poor audio in the theatre. i'm not sure if that was because i was sitting in the balcony(good seats though) or the mixer wasn't on top of it . maybe he was just off last night because when i was in the mens washroom at intermission others were saying the same thing i was thinking. i am a true fan so will give him another chance next time he is in town. rickyre

  • Eddie Iz Amazing.

by sidecrotcher on 2010-05-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

His shows are hard to describe because he weaves in and out of topics as they come to him. It's a very "stream of consciousness" type of performance and you have to stay on your toes if you want to keep up with him. His energy on-stage is intimidating and his fearlessness is inspiring.

  • Eddie Izzard Vancouver

by CONFIRMEDFAN on 2010-05-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Not many people can hold your attention by themselves for two hours while telling a series of fractured stories, but Eddie can. He is brilliant and was brilliant as always last night here in Vancouver. Loved the show, love Eddie.

  • Thought I was at a history lesson--BORING

by Kaap on 2010-05-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 1 out of 5

Never seen stand up comedy about evolution,God, dinosaurs, the Greeks and Romans, etc. Probably because it's not funny! Felt like I was at school and that certainly isn't funny or what I came for. He would do better as a speaker. My partner and I both have fantastic senses of humour, and we just didn't get it. (To be fair to him, we didn't know what his stand-up(?) was like, just his acting and seeing him on various shows) Shows how everyone's perspective of humour is different as a lot of people were laughing and not in the remotest way is what most of what he said funny; (just very few flashes of brilliance) kind of like when you go to the movies and there's always 1 person killing themselves laughing thru the show and it's not a comedy or even slightly funny; can't ever figure those people out, but there you go..

  • Brilliant!

by queenspark on 2010-05-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Eddie Izzard has to be the funniest man on the planet -- and also one of the most intelligent. Last night's show at the Queen E, in a theatre full of adoring fans, was a wonderful experience. The sound during the first half, at least from where we sat in the right front orchestra, seemed a bit muffled, and we had to strain to catch to some of words. After intermission the sound was much better -- or maybe our ears were becoming better attuned. Twelve hours later we're still laughing!

  • Oh My Gods!! Such a fun night!

by LindainSquamish on 2010-05-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

We hope that Eddie enjoyed Vancouver as much as we enjoyed spending the evening with him! Thank you for the laughs! Front row was great. Such a gorgeous man! Loved your shoes!! Were they Jimmy Choo's? :)

  • Eddie peaked with "Dressed to Kill"

by uppy on 2010-05-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

He 's funny but definately not as funny as he used to be, "dressed to kill" was so clever, this show not so much. Some parts were just plain sily.

  • British Blokes are always interesting !

Never heard of Eddie before but thought I would check him out with a date. He was much funnier as the night went on but it was a bit up in the air for the beginning.... Neat guy and enjoyed the show none the less, and it helped that my date laughed a lot!

  • Eddie Izzard was extremely funny!

by Trin on 2010-05-19Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

When I received an e-mail from Ticketmaster saying Eddie Izzard was coming to Calgary's Jubilee Auditorium on May 14, I was wondering who he was. I checked him out on the internet and learned who he was and that his shows sold out everywhere he performed. I decided to take a chance and get tickets as my husband's birthday was on the same day ... and am I ever glad I did. Eddie is so funny, full of energy, and he was on stage for a total of 2 whole hours, not counting the 15 minute break. He did a great show and kept us all entertained, and we, the audience, showed him how much we appreciated him by giving him all our laughter and a standing ovation.

  • Eddie was fantastic!!

by CakeorDeath2010 on 2010-05-19Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

I have watched Eddie Izzard on DVD, but nothing compares to his live show. He was electric and I just hope that he will come back to Edmonton in the future.

  • Jazz Chickens better than Cake or Death

by Jay2XLC on 2010-05-19Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Eddie was great, more puns this time around, but stuck to the trademark stream of consciousness rapid fire delivery, punctuated every so often by "so...yeah" or imaginary notet-taking (lost Edmonton there). Reviewing past jokes throughout the show (Jazz Chickens) was great, and his rant on religion was spot-on. Why didn't God flick Hitler's head off? Hmmmmm?

  • eddie izzard..very disappointing

by ivorbiggan on 2010-05-18Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 1 out of 5

I was really looking forward to this . In the end I was bitterly disappointed. His material just was not funny. I think I laughed 3 times in the first half and not at all in the first 1/2 hour of the second half before I left. Alot of people around me were also not laughing. I would not pay money to see him again.

Eddie Izzard is a complete genius. His extinsive knowledge on religion, history, comparitive civilizations and British Literature are all combined into an interesting and hilarious act that left my cheeks sore. The few moments that I was not laughing I was smiling from ear to ear. I have followed Eddie for the past 10 years and have seen all of his stand up, including some of the French gigs. I had very high expectation for his show and he exceeded each one. I would recommend him to anyone who is willing to explore his/her views on life and everything related. PS his vulgar language is fabulous...but not as fabulous as his heels!

  • Bwahhhahaha!!!

by cntill on 2010-05-18Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

I need a Jazz Chicken. Very entertaining,Izzard's take on the historyof the world/humanity was clever and made me think and laugh at the same time. He gave me a bit of insight into hetero men dressing as women, enlightening for sure.

  • Stripped - but not of his humour!!

by Macki on 2010-05-18Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

OMG - I love this man! He is just soooooo random and I haven't laughed so hard in ages. I literally stoped breathing because I was laughing so hard. Of course, I am a little bias because he is a fellow Brit but his humour and wit is universal. Tres manifique Mr. Izzard and cover thy neighbours ox!!!

  • Too awesome for Edmonton

by Canadiancutie on 2010-05-18Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

Eddie Izzard is still as brilliant, unique and completely mad as he was when I was first introduced to his comedy 11 years ago. I don't think Edmonton realized how privileged we were to have him grace our city. Highlights would be lost in translation because unless you are a "die hard" fan you will never understand how hysterical and historical his comedy is. I will always seek out the comedy of this brilliant man, who looks darn good in heels and bit of gloss! Cheers!

  • Love Eddie, hate Stripped

by Buzzbomb on 2010-05-18Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 1 out of 5

I've been keeping an eye on Eddie Izzard tour dates for a long time now as I'm a huge fan of his material. But the Stripped tour was a real letdown. The first half, in particular, was exceptionally weak and by the time he started to get into form I'd lost interest. The audience reaction seemed surprisingly positive but the four other people I went with didn't seem to enjoy the show either. Before I buy tickets for Eddie again, I'll be checking online reviews. The reviews for the UK leg of the tour are also extremely disappointing.

  • HIlarious as usual

by Sdobresk on 2010-05-18Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

I love Eddie Izzard, and as soon as I saw he was doing a show in Edmonton I immediately jumped at the chance to go see him live. When I saw that it was his Stripped tour I had a few reservations, as I had seen the dvd of that particular performance some time ago (he had performed it back in either 08 or 09), but recycled bits or not the choice to go see him was clear: you just go. And it was worth it. The audience loved him (despite there being a few attention-starved hecklers) and the bits I had seen before were still funny. His new stuff absolutely killed, so it's my hope that after coming to Edmonton this first time he will consider coming back again. If you get the chance to see this man, make sure you do.

  • Eddie Izzard is Stripped

by Jehy on 2010-05-18Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

Eddie Izzard's Stripped show in Edmonton was incredible! Izzard doesn't give off a "celebrity" vibe when performing his show. On the contrary, it's like watching an old college roommate share his lunacy and ideas with you. The subject matter may seem preachy to some, but perhaps that's because he decide to stick to one topic this time around: religion. Usually Eddie's shows cover a vast array of topics like history, French, being arrest ala Dressed to Kill or Definite Article. He's an easy going dude who loves to laugh at his own jokes and will actually apologize to hecklers. In today's world of vulgar comics, if you don't mind the f-bomb, this show can be appreciated by people of all ages (the proof being the older gentlemen next to me bent over in hysterics). If you enjoy the subtlety of Izzard's work, you'll probably enjoy the set as well. Just don't let the goings on through the window distract you. :)
