Edmonton Elks History

The Edmonton Elks are a professional football team in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Founded in 1949, the Elks have claimed 14 Grey Cup trophies, including a league-record five consecutive championships between 1978 and 1982. The Herd also hold the record for most consecutive seasons with a playoff appearance at 37 from 1972 to 2005. The Herd last hoisted the Grey Cup in 2015. Across the team’s history, eight players have won the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player Award, while seven have been named Most Outstanding Defensive Player and four have earned the Most Outstanding Rookie Award. The Elks have been led by four Annis Stukus Trophy-winning coaches, which itself is named after Edmonton’s legendary first head coach.

Edmonton Elks at Commonwealth Stadium

Commonwealth Stadium has been the home of the Edmonton Elks since opening in 1978. The 56,302-seat facility received its first expansion in 1982, followed by renovations in 2001, 2008 and 2013. It is Canada’s largest open-air stadium by capacity. Elks fans can take in the team’s long-spanning history with the stadium’s Wall of Honour and follow along with cheers led by the team mascots, Punter and Spike. Meanwhile, Commonwealth Stadium has hosted five Grey Cup games, including one of its highest attended championship matchups in 2010.

    I Love Live Football!!!

    We had tickets in the second row right on the 40 yard line. We were really close to the action and could hear the helmets smashing together! I'm a bit short so next time I might want to be a few rows higher up but other than that it was great.
