Edmonton Folk Music Festival coolest place to be in August
Vibrant ... dramatic ... colorful... and friendly. When describing the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, musicians and patrons are unanimous. This year’s edition promises to be all that and more for the Edmontonians, visitors, and volunteers who will claim their patch of grass on the hill at Gallagher Park to listen and move to the beat of more than 60 music-makers from the four corners of the globe.
Whether you come to listen to music, reconnect with old friends, or join the army of volunteers who keep the festival running, this family-friendly event has become world renowned since it was started in 1980.
Children 11 and under and seniors over 80 are admitted at no charge.

Great weather, great vibe, great music, and perfectly executed. I came to see Mike Franti and Jake Shimabakuro. But so much great music. Saturday night line was great....one of the best line-ups in years. Bring Chris Thile or Ben Folds or some new grass.
A good variety of very very talented musicians. Blue Rodeo were the highlight. With their solid passionate music and lyrics they still blew everyone else on stage away.
We have attended Folk Fest for the past five years and every year it gets better and better! Awesome performers and volunteers! This event is so well organized. Great acoustics! We can hardly wait until next year!
I'm not from Edmonton and I really enjoyed being exposed to new music in a beautiful setting overlooking the city. It was a packed 4 days full of tons of shows. It was fun being there with friends and seeing the Edmonton community come alive! :)
Ben Harper was very mellow compared to when I saw him there last time. Basia Bulat and Michael Frantini & Spearhead rocked it Sat night. Love Folk Fest but it would nice if there were screens & streaming in the beer gardens of the actual Folk Fest main stage music.
Fantastic location, amenities, food vendors, pleasant audience, fabulous music and general atmosphere. The event appears to be superbly organized and although we only went for one day (our first time ever) we had such a great time we definitely will come back again and again!
Fantastic event.loved all the bands.The only thing is they need to add more beer gardens and more food venues.
and a variety of talent to suit all tastes. Not sure how you guys do it, but the program was punctually followed as advertised, the quality of music, variety and talent amazes me and no doubt, I'm going to make this a yearly priority to visit.
I am new to the festival and unfamiliar with most of the performers but as a live performance, this was wonderful. The haunting blended sound matched the beautiful setting with the super moon shining at least for awhile. So far it is an unforgettable experience and looking forward to Saturday and Sunday!
Edmonton Folk Fest is hands down one of the best events in Edmonton. The music is great. The small stage performances with multiple bands jamming together are one of a kind and arguably the best part of the event.The volunteers are plentiful and well organized and overall the weekend goes by so smoothly. Highly highly recommended.
We attended on Friday and Sunday, specifically to see John Butler Trio and the Avett Brothers. The Mindbenders showcase on Friday evening, Stage 3 was incredible, as was JBT's performance! Definately the highlight for us. Also thoroughly enjoyed the Avett Brothers. The layout of the festival was great, not to big and easy to get around. Wonderful to see such talented artists playing the festival. Only recommendation is somehow allowing patrons to keep the ticket stub for souviners.
The Edmonton Folk Fest once again was outstanding!!! Great music, fantastic atmosphere, really well run festival. It was a most enjoyable experience and one that I would recommend to all my friends.
So much talent!! Great performance by Neko Case- her voice is so raw and beautiful. John Butler Trio has such a positive vibe - and incredible talent. They always exceed my expectations. What an awesome show!
Another year of great success for the Edmonton Folk Fest. Great atmosphere, great music, and surprisingly great weather this year. Feist, Deli 2 Dublin, Bruce Cockburn, Niko Case, Head and the Heart were awesome!!! Now to heal the void and off to Gogol Bordello tonight!!!
All four days were amazing. Personal highlights were the Bahamas, Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou, Joe Henry, Dr. John, Martyn Joseph, Emily Smith, Lindi Ortega.. So much music, too little time. Rediculous choices too.. Had to choose between Dr. John and Ladysmith Black Mambazo on side stages at same time... between a Master Guitar Class with Martin Simpson and Martyn Joseph? Brilliant work by the organizers. Well done Mr Wickham. A stellar weekend of awesome music.! I went home very very happy.
4 days of great bands in a beautiful park. The people and setting along with good music are unforgettable. The talent is always 2nd to none.
Bonnie Raitt has the best professional sounding band backing her perfect , timeless performance of her classic cuts and newest released album. There is no doubt this lady knows her audience well and responds as an artist that cares more about her fans than herself. Gracious, Kind, Thankful and Interactive with her audience she makes music that makes you lean in and listen!
The Edmonton International Folk Festival is a must see event. Good to have a friend who will stand in line for the lottery and put down your tarp as well, that way you can sleep in!!!
Another great year! Lots of variety and talent. The place to be for outstanding music.
