Her acting career in television included roles in several successful sitcoms before being offered a part on "These Friends of Mine" by ABC. Following the first season, the show was renamed "Ellen." The first initiative of the fund is to build The Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. The campus will permanently secure the future of wild gorillas in Rwanda by building on successful field conservation efforts, while empowering the people living near the gorillas to thrive in relationship to their own ecosystem. This project gives Ellen the opportunity to carry on the legacy of her hero, visionary scientist Dian Fossey, joining her as a protector and champion of the critically endangered mountain gorilla. DeGeneres has also brought awareness to the anti-bullying issue by creating a PSA titled, "Be Kind." Overall, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" has raised over $50 million for various causes, including global warming and breast cancer awareness.

Want to go to LA to see her show!

by Jettahill on 2018-04-24Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

Ellen is such a kind individual, was impressed the ticket funds were going to an animal shelter. Ellen is so giving, and what she went through to get where she is, is amazing. Just a over all great person.

    Cool Experience

    by Linz177 on 2018-04-24Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

We didn't know what to expect being that is was a conversation with Ellen but it was pretty cool. She told quite a few stories that she has not shared on her show before and that was really neat. Her interviewer did a good job of not cutting her off but also keeping the conversation moving. I wish she told more jokes and I wish there was a monologue. Dancing while she danced would have been cool too but all in all a cool experience. Not sure it was worth the large price tag but glad I went.

    Ellen D in Calgary

by Anonymous on 2018-04-24Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

I was a little star struck to see Ellen but the show was a bit of a let down. When you think of Ellen you know the happy, love, laughter and fun that goes with her. But this show had none of the Ellen we know. Not even any dancing! The questions that were asked during the 1 hour she was on stage were all things that were in her 60th birthday show about how she got started, her troubles coming out and getting back to TV. Maybe it was the host that didn't have good questions or Ellen just had never done a question and answer before on a tour? Hopefully if she comes back she is better prepared. And with merchandise like Ellen underwear!

    Dissatisfaction

    by Bluebird777 on 2018-04-24Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

The event had no purpose or goal. It was difficult to stay engaged as the conversation was not very interesting. Was this an interview, was it a Q and A, or conversation..? what was it ..? I feel... I should get my money back as this was not what I expected. ....money grab ....which I thought it’s not what Ellen is all about ....but now I don’t know ....

    Conversation with Ellen

    by Mommy22 on 2018-04-24Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

Ellen is always great to see. I wish it was longer. It was just over an hour of her getting asked questions that she has answered in many previous interviews. I was hoping for something new.

    Wish it was longer.

    by Taylor1218 on 2018-04-24Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

Ellen is always good to listen to but I wish it had been a bit funnier and longer. She really only spoke for about an hour. It was much more serious than I was expecting. Short evening for the cost.

    Ellen convo

by AnnieClink on 2018-04-24Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

Awesome to see Ellen in person. Opening act was good, but not the right group to pump up the audience for Ellen. Their song to get the crowd on their feet and dancing was a slow song with waving phones. And then Tara Nelson introduced the Telus sponsor who introduced the host David Kelly who introduced the video that introduced Ellen, who needs no introduction! Ellen was on stage for about 1 hour 15 minutes. Although it was good, much of it we've heard before, so it was an expensive event for an hour and 15 minutes. Still glad I went, but not sure how I would've felt had I spent $400 on floor seats. Fortunately I was in the cheap seats!

    Ellen, took my breath away!

by Debbra on 2018-04-24Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

Ellen is funny, kind and genuine! Her life story was very interesting! Although I wished the show was longer, I felt I really got to know her in the time we had. Walking on stage carrying a Humbolt Broncos Hockey Stick was such a show of solidarity - person to person sharing sadness. Like I said Ellen is kind.

LOVE Ellen, Feel a bit robbed with time

by AimeeJean on 2018-04-24Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

I am ELLEN's biggest Canadian Fan! I have not missed a show in order 10 years. I love her so much. I was so excited to attend this event but tickets were over $300 each and she only spoke for an hour. I was hoping for a bit more. My seats were decent and her energy is amazing but I felt it was not $300+ worth.

    Ellen Degeneres

    by GFT123 on 2018-04-24Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

A poor event. Moderator/host asked terrible questions that most fans know the answer to. Crowd wanted to dance with Ellen but only about 30 seconds of dancing was done. Such a disappointing event.

Ellen - show could have been better

    by Babs892 on 2018-04-24Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

Simply put, this event was poor value for dollar. Ticketmaster sent out an email stating due to large crowds and high security - people should show up early but the doors opened only one hour before which caused more challenges than anything. People were lining to get in so they could buy Ellen underwear and other stuff but there was nothing for sale. The Canadian Tennors were simply amazing. and Ellen? Well she is always amazing. I have no regrets going as simply being in the same room with her made it worth my while. The interviewer was great, however, almost every question asked and answered would have been common knowlede, even to an average fan. So when a person pays over $1000 for four tickets, one would expect a bit more out of this show. Hats off to Ellen for her tribute to Humboldt. ❤️ Clearly Ellen didn’t need the sort of money that was charged for the tickets, so I am curious if this was just a money grab for the Saddledome. It would be nice if Ellen did something like Garth Brooks did to avoid price Gouging. It at least put a portion of the tickets toward her charity.

    Huge Disappointment

by KASF on 2018-04-24Calgary Saddledome - Calgary

The show was not what we expected. Just over an hour long and tickets were over $200.00 each. Ridiculously overpriced for the show. She obviously didn't want to be there and it reflected in her show. The interview was nothing new ... had heard it all before. Felt like instead of celebrating her, it was all about her coming out. I was so disillusioned and actually have changed my opinion of her overall. She is not worth it!

    Very Dissapointed

by Anonymous on 2018-04-24Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

I am very disappointed in the whole set up and atmosphere of this event. It was very poorly advertised and should have had more details regarding that it was only going to be about Gay Pride and coming out. Anyone who is an Ellen fan already knew this about her and obviously fully supported it or they wouldn't have been there. It was ridiculous that the 40 minutes she was actually on stage the only questions that could be fired at her were that of the gay nature. The 6 members of our family that attended travelled a long ways and were so excited and it was just very disappointing to support an event that was only focused on one thing. Three out of the six members actually got up and left where they were not shocked to see that many other people in the audience had done the same. We spent a lot of hard earned money to not get anything out of it in return. So sad.

Conversation was very interesting and moving.

by Tomatillo on 2018-04-24Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

We were very humble and honoured with Ellen’s first time visit to Canada and first and only time to Calgary. We never missed any of her TV shows and wanted to be part of the Conversation with her in our city. We were surprised she didn’t close with her usual remark at the end of her shows: Be Kind to one another. Thank you for coming Ellen. We love you.

    Not worth it

by JDDDD on 2018-04-24Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

Ellen was only on stage for 1 hour and was nothing spectacular. Her story is great but the whole show could have had a lot more fun. There was no merch available to purchase at the show which would have been great.

    Overpriced

by JenLS on 2018-04-24Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

I thought the venue did not match the event- an arena was too large for an intimate interview and it was not adequately supported with enough screens. It was also very short for the price. I was expecting a more upbeat comedic tone but it was quite somber and serious overall. I thought Dave Kelly did an amazing job of the interview. Mixing it up with some audience interaction or stand up would have been nice.

    Disappointing!

    by Sweets82 on 2018-04-24Scotiabank Saddledome - Calgary

I love Ellen, so when I heard she was coming to Calgary I was super excited! Tickets were quite expensive, but my friends and I splurged on the $235 seats. When we got to the Dome we immediately wanted to get our Ellen merch, but it was no where in sight. We asked a gentleman that works at the Dome and he told us no merchandise was available because it was to expensive to bring threw customs. The show started around 6. First up were The Tenors who played 3 songs, then came Tara Nelson, some lady from Telus, and then Dave Kelly. By the time Ellen came out she was maybe on stage for a hour. Dave Kelly interviewed Ellen, he was clearly nervous which made for some awkward moments. We were back in the car by 8, feeling like we just got ripped off.
