About

ELVIS COSTELLO IN CONCERT:

He may be the "other Elvis," but when it comes to clever, madcap,  personality-drenched rock and roll, there is only one Elvis Costello. From his days in the British punk and new wave scene to his pioneering role in the rise of power pop, Costello has repeatedly broken the mold, appealing to both cult and mainstream audiences. On tour as a one-man-band in  2013, he displayed serious performance chops, making a backing band seem obsolete with beautifully stripped-down versions of classics like "Allison" and "What's So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding." Hitting the road again in 2014, Costello will be treating fans to his acclaimed solo show as well as select dates with his band the Imposters.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

London-born Declan Patrick MacManus, better known as Elvis Costello, began playing music at an early age under the influence of his father, a talented musician and bandleader. After playing in a pub rock band in his early twenties, he released his solo debut album My Aim is True in 1977 to moderate success, landing in the Top 20 in the UK and Top 40 in the US. Shortly after forming his backing band the Attractions, Costello  released his breakthrough 1979 album Armed Forces, a No. 2 hit in the UK and an enduring new wave classic. In addition to his knack for catchy, clever songwriting, Costello's provocative performances, pointed political lyrics, and anti-authority attitude helped fuel his success. With more than 30 studio albums under his belt, Costello's impressive run continues with another highly anticipated tour in 2014.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Simply an amazing show. So many great songs, and the man just doesn't stop! A great experience!"

"It's amazing that all of the talent on display was coming from one man. He played for nearly two and a half hours and not a second was wasted. Performers like him are a rarity."

"Quirky, eclectic and utterly entertaining. Elvis' voice is as distinctive as ever, and while he played many of his classics, the set list included many songs that were throwbacks to his father's time. I have a whole new appreciation for the man's guitar talents."

    Elvis has left the Building

by Jimmy4u on 2016-11-06Shea's Perfroming Arts - Buffalo

Nothing old school or upbeat- he claims he is something punk- that is a joke- more Tony Bennett- All sappy dribble not worth paying any money for,... he could not even do Alison without back ups in his face.. boring- I fell asleep twice.. he pulled a Sting and went all wimpy, melodic.. not the Elvis we grew to love- Billy Idol still rocks it, Elvis not at all- save your money- slow, boring and nothing worth seeing. I am a fan until singers get so into themselves they figure they can play anything and we will gladly throw our money away- not so much. I have seen all the greats of the 70's-80's and he ranks down at the bottom for enjoyment- he has a famous wife also- not a word about her- the only singer I have ever seen to not mention, thank, give a story about a famous spouse.. Oh I forgot to say- No 'Olivers Army' his biggest and only hit and he refuses to play it- only singer who does not get it- save your money..

    An intimate enthralling performance

by judiboots on 2014-06-23Massey Hall - Toronto

Elvis Costello thrilled the crowd at Massey Hall with a typically charismatic performance. He was in fine voice and presented an overview of some his finest songs. The stripped down approach suited the venue, as did his engaging chatter about his family and career. A great evening, and the cameo appearance by Ron Sexsmith only made it better!

    Elvis the Professional!!

by KWbber on 2014-06-19Massey Hall - Toronto

Elvis had to stop his show 12 songs in the night before in Ann Arbor, MI. He expressed early concern about his voice, but managed to work his way through a large number of songs in rapid succession....he seemed almost afraid to stop and lose his voice. Elvis played for close to 2 1/2 hours with minimal breaks between 3 encores. A little more than half way through the show, Elvis provided historical context for each song he performed. Very good stoy teller.

    Elvis Rocks The Night Away!!

    by Raindog4182 on 2014-06-18Massey Hall - Toronto

Easily the best Elvis Costello concert I have seen and quite possibly the best concert I have seen PERIOD. The setting, the song selection, the mood, the seat location all made for a perfect evening with Mr. Costello. Days later and I am still singing songs from the show. It was definitely a show not to be missed... I am forever grateful that I was part of it. Thank you ELVIS!!

Even with a cold Elvis did not disappoint

    by new2thehood on 2014-06-17Massey Hall - Toronto

Although not a diehard fan, I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Elvis Costello is a consummate professional. He was all alone except for one duet with Ron Sexsmith which was fantastic. At 2 hours and 40 minutes we really got our money's worth!

    Amazing marathon performance

by Lovecraft on 2014-06-17Massey Hall - Toronto

30+ songs over 2.5 hours including both the hits and deeper material. Reinterpretations of familiar songs rather than the same version as the LP (CD, mp3, you get the idea). A variety of periods and genres. Jokes and stories throughout. Elvis was on top of his game and an engaging performer all night. Simply amazing!

Not what I expected, was awesome...

by Anonymous on 2012-05-10The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor - Windsor

I went in not expecting to really enjoy this show. He's not one of my favorites, but the husband really likes him and if nothing else would have been a night out. I really enjoyed the show and thought he did an awesome rendition of Johnny Cash's song and Prince's song. I was impressed with the length and variety of the performance and really thought the interaction with the audience was great. None of the other concerts I've been to were anything like it. I enjoyed it so much I'll go again next time he's in town.

Elvis Rocks At the Famous Orpheum

    by Python46 on 2012-04-30Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Elvis Costello and The Imposters Put on a Spinning Wheel of Hits at the famous and beautiful Orpheum Theatre. Re-igniting his Spinning Songbook show from 25 years ago was a big hit. A bright light, vaudeville style show that allowed Elvis to share the joy of his long career in punk, rhythm and blues, jazz and rockabilly styles he has come to be known for. The title, The Revolver Tour. This guy, the original Napoleon Dynamite, has performed with almost every notable artist during the last 35 years. He is amazing. Just a few words of praise for a show I will remember forever. The audience participation is something only you could pull off. Everyone had fun! Thanks for all the great sights. Elvis, your voice is as young and vibrant as it was when you recorded Alison for the first time. Hearing these hits live, Alison, Watching The Detectives, Pump It Up and all your hits was such a thrill for me and my guest. Seeing and getting to hear Diana Krall play with you was the climax. Thank-you over and over.

The best part of the show was the drummer, 2 hours non stop high energy. As for Elvis, couldn't sing before, still tone deaf now

Since Elvis Costello first announced the return of his spinning songbook, I have been looking forward to catching a show. His performance on April 21st at Caesars Windsor did NOT dissapoint! Featuring a mix of hits, rarities, and fun covers, and with the carnival theme lending to lots of fun spectacle, Elvis gave a stellar performance. His voice was right on target, his sense of humour was exactly as you'd expect, and the audience participation was a lot of fun. It was definitely a great show that no one should miss!

    Elvis on fire!

    by Gunner2 on 2012-04-24Casino Rama - Rama

As usual Elvis in the long tradition of quality performers gave a great value for money performance, heavy on set list, light on fluff. The sound & lights were excellent & the venue had no bad sight lines, all in all a great night out.

Had mixed feeling about the show but it was amazing. Audience participation was great. The giant spinning song wheel was a very cool idea. Would do it again for sure.

Elvis has definitely not left the building

by Hilltop on 2012-04-23The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor - Windsor

The concert was high energy and a lot of fun. When I first heard about the request wheel concept and the dancers, I was concerned that it might be hokey. However, Elvis is such a good entertainer that he pulled it off without difficulty. The Imposters proved to be a great band and Elvis was in good spirits and voice. The performance lasted nearly 2 hours but it seemed that it had only started when everyone was on their feet cheering for an encore. Elvis has an incredible catalogue of excellent material to draw from and he does a terrific job interpreting other artist's songs (as he did with Tears of Rage in tribute to Levon Helm). The evening proved to be a memorable one indeed.

Elvis Costello and the Imposters-Revolver tour

by Arion on 2012-04-23The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor - Windsor

The sound quality was not good. It was too loud and tinny. This was probably because of the venue. Sometimes it was hard to understand the words that he was singing. He was good when he sang on his own without a lot of music backing him up. Unfortunately when he did sing my favourites, he changed them too much. The GoGo dancing cage idea was corny and it didn't work. I was disappointed.
