About

Rock group Evanescence, initially formed in 1994 by Amy Lee and Ben Moody, released three EPs before the end of the ‘90s and an album called Origin. By 2002 they were signed to Wind-Up Records and expanded the line-up to include musicians John LeCompt, Will Boyd and Rocky Gray. In 2003 they released their first official album, Fallen, which sold over 15 million copies.

Evanescence released a live album, Anywhere But Home, in 2004. This was followed by Open Door in 2006, which sold one million copies in its first week. The band then waited five years to release their third album, the self-titled Evanescence. The band has toured extensively across the world. Their 2012 world tour took in a number of dates in the UK, South America , North America, Australia, China, Japan and Indonesia.

The band has received five Grammy nominations and has won two awards — for Best New Artist and Best Hard Rock Performance. Other accolades for the band include a Los Premios MTV award, a MTV Australia Video Music Award, a NRJ Music Award, two Teen Choice Awards and a World Music Award. Amy Lee was awarded the National Music Publishers' Association's Songwriter Icon Award in 2008.

The band’s line-up has varied with a number of members leaving at various stages in their history. One of the founding members, Ben Moody, left in the middle of their European tour in 2003. He was replaced by Terry Balsamo. In 2005, Will Boyd also left, with Tim McCord joining in 2006. During their 2007 tour, John LeCompt was fired and Rocky Gray decided to quit. These two members were replaced by Troy Lawham and Will Hunt.

Evanescence's lead singer Amy Lee has worked on a number of other projects. Her version of “Sally's Song” was included on the soundtrack for Disney's The Nightmare Before Christmas. Her collaborations with other artists have included Korn's “Freak on a Leash” single and Seether's Broken, which was featured on the soundtrack for The Punisher. She has also performed on tracks for David Hodges, Big Dismal and The Damning Well.

  • Amy Lee good but concert mediocre!!

by MANDERBEAST on 2011-10-27Sound Academy - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

My boyfriend and myself watched the concert on Tuesday night at the sound academy. Both of us had never been to the sound academy before and we found the venue amazing! It felt more intimate then the ACC because it's tiny and you are pretty close to the stage. The opening bands were remarkable, talk about talent! Amy Lee and the boys came on two hours later, what a talent that girl has! The band was fantastic, and Amy Lee blew us away with her angel like voice. The only Negitive thing I have to say about the entire experience was she played almost every song off her new cd, although the music was good, the crowd wasn't very involved, because I don't think they knew the music or the lyrics. She played 3 older songs, which then had the crowd very involved. I only wish she played a little bit more of their older stuff, and introduced maybe only 3-4 songs off the new cd. Over all i am glad I seen them, they are a great band with extremely talented people, however that being said, my boyfriend and I both agreed that one time was enough, for us. :)

Im a fan of the music and there is obviously strong talent but i wasnt overly sold on the live event. all ages made for an excess of parents that you could tell werent too interested to be there. the band itself didnt go far from the regular cd tunes. ive read other reviews and i would agree, felt like i was listening to an itunes play list. there wasnt much of a performance. lacked authenticity. ive been to a number of concerts this year and truthfully i was expecting more. i like the new tunes as well but again it dint stray much from hearing it on the radio. im interested to see more pretty wreckless though. i wasnt familar with them.

  • Ev and Amy were amazing perfomers

    by LadY1357 on 2011-10-27Sound Academy - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

The first opening band sucked. It was draining listening to them and did no suit the other two bands. The second band was much better and a great lead into Ev. Amy Lee is an amazing performe. Her sound live was just as good and sometimes better then the recordings when she was belting it out

  • EXCELLENT

    by famulan1st on 2011-10-27Sound Academy - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The 2 opening acts were awesome. Both "Rival Sons" & "The Pretty Reckless" were both great. Evanescence was great as usual. Amy's performances on the piano and keyboard are superb. Vocals were amazing as you would expect. "Lost In Paradise" is one of my new favourite songs. Just overall AMAZING. Hopefully next time...Evanescence will be playing at a venue with seats. :D

  • Evanescence is Awesome!

by merlincontroltower on 2011-05-22Anywhere - AnycityRating: 5 out of 5

Evanescence is awesome. If one looks at the music arrangements and the lyrics the band has depth. Amy Lee has a voice of an angel! She easily out sings most rock-star female acts period.
