We saw Leonard Cohen in 1993 and again in Hamilton in May 2009 and we both thought this year's concert was even better than in '93, which at the time, seemed very hard to top. He and his entourage sang and played from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m., with only a short intermission, and his voice was as strong and beautiful at the end of the evening as it was at the beginning, even more remarkable, given his age. He was charming and gracious to the audience and gave the spotlight to each of his backup singers and musicians in turn. The quality of the singers and musicians was outstanding and we thoroughly enjoyed hearing each of them showcased throughout the show.
Mr. Cohen delighted the audience by doing a jig as he left the stage before the intermissions and many of the encores. The people who left the arena after the first encore, thinking the show was over and they would get an edge over others leaving the parking lot, missed a highly entertaining part of the evening.
Here's hoping Mr. Cohen comes back to the GTA again in the near future. Certainly one of the very best entertainment evenings we've spent in a very long time and definitely well worth the price of admission!
