FATHER JOHN MISTY IN CONCERT:

Father John Misty brings folk into the 21st century with each eclectic element he incorporates into his unique sound, and his charismatic showmanship makes his live shows a must-see. When he's strumming his way through ballads like ìThe Night Josh Tillman Came to Our Apartmentî his emotional vocals and heartbreaking lyrics make alt-country fans feel right at home. But heís just as comfortable strutting his stuff to noisy, spiteful rockers like ìThe Ideal Husbandî and turning out full-blown electronica on tracks like the transcendently beautiful ìTrue Affectionî. With his singular combination of Americana traditions with cutting-edge sounds, Father John Misty is a folk icon for a new generation, and fans won't want to miss the chance to see him conjure up his immersive sound in concert.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Before making his debut as Father John Misty in 2012, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joshua Tillman was busy recording late-night demos in the Seattle-area. After self-releasing two CD-R demos he attracted the attention of Fargo Records, and in 2006 the label released his debut album Minor Works. In 2008 Tillman was tapped by indie darlings Fleet Foxes, who needed a drummer for the recording of their self-titled debut. Though he gained widespread exposure and success with Fleet Foxes, Tillman left to pursue his creative reinvention as Father John Misty in 2012. After a warm reception from critics and fans for his debut album Fear Fun, he set out on his first solo headlining tour. His 2015 follow-up album I Love You, Honeybear was a breakthrough success, appearing on best-of lists from esteemed sources like Pitchfork, Roughtrade, and Stereogum. As he continues to breathe new life into indie folk with his wide-ranging influences and poetic gifts, Father John Mistyís electrifying performances have fans eagerly anticipating whatís next from the innovative troubadour.

  • A bit underwhelming

by Andi on 2025-08-03Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

I loved FJM the last time I saw him. This time he seemed a bit down, tbh. The band was great, I enjoyed his new and old stuff, the crowd in Vancouver was giving him the love, but he seemed a bit flat. Maybe he needs a break from touring. I hope he’s ok!

  • I went by myself, and it was so worth it!

Father John Misty, aka Josh Tillman, knows how to please a crowd! Playing almost all of his songs from his current album Mahashmashana. He added in a bunch of crowd favorites, that were sure to leave you wanting more!

  • Great singer, but low effort concert

by CJ on 2025-08-03Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

He’s an excellent singer live, the band were wonderful, but I think less than 4 sentences total were spoken to the crowd, so it felt a little flat or low effort at times.

  • Great show, great venue

No complaints! Great show, no issues getting in, out or during the show.

  • A great showman and played most songs we wanted to hear.

by Marlow on 2025-08-03Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

We came early and stayed to the end despite having had a hard day, so that tells you a lot about the transformative power of his music. This is the second time seeing Josh in concert in Vancouver playing his own music and this time we opted for seats close to the front and it was well worth it, even though we stood throughout most of his set. There did seem to be some technical problem and often the lights weren’t on him, enough to be surprised by it. He didn’t play “Real Love” and that was disappointing, hence 4 out of 5 stars.

  • Great night

  • Out with Father

by Vascorossi on 2022-09-29MTELUS - MontrealRating: 4 out of 5

Excellent show, saw him first in Ashville North Carolina in VR will again see him in Ashville Tennessee on Oct 6 again in VR. Can't wait as there was a very short seen when in Montreal when the stage turn red & a brive white in a fraction of a second. I didn't see that in Ashville but hoping to notice it in Nashville. As far sound quality I give it a 6 on 10. Couldn't make out the lyrics music louder than hie voice terrible also opening act also had terrible sound . I was hopping it would get better. But actually get worse. Song choices were great his voice is great.

Mtelus sounds is always a challenge but with Father John Misty great voice and musical arrangements it survived.Especially with the songs with less instruments...But overall ,amazing performance and absolutely great set.
