What happened to theatre etiquette?
by Dee Dee on 2023-01-25Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5Six of us (three couples) attended the matinee of Fiddler on the Roof, in the upper balcony, right centre. We left home extra early so there would be no chance of arriving late. Unfortunately, many other people did not do the same. From the start time of 2:00 PM until 2:26 PM we witnessed a steady stream of late-comers being seated, mostly in front of us. It wasn't all at once, disturbing us once, but one small group after another. It was very annoying and we were surprised that the QE staff would allow this to happen. The other surprising thing, is that someone nearby had brought a toddler to the show, and she kept making loud comments and talking through the quiet dialogue / songs. It's crazy enough that some parent thought this was acceptable, but for the theatre to allow it?! Eventually someone took her out. We thought the show was fabulous: acting, singing, dancing. The quieter voices (women and men speaking quietly) were very hard to hear from where we were. Over all we loved the show. Shame on QE staff for allowing such poor spectator etiquette to ruin the experience of others.
