  • Bikel carried the show

by Rozz on 2010-01-24Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

Probably one of the best productions I've seen in a while from Broadway Across Canada. The music was great. Theodore Bikel was amazing, considering he's 85 years old!. I think it would have been great to see Topol but Bikel definitely had a presence about him. I thoroughly enjoyed this musical.

It is excellent live theatre. I laughed and I cried. The movie never affected me that way. I was wondering how it would end again even though I knew the story. The ending was more satisfying than the movie version. I really enjoyed the idea of the fiddler appearing throughout the play as a visible idea of "tradition" with Tevye interacting with him during his decision-making. I would go again next time and definitely recommend it to others as a must- go- and- see. It was wonderful!

I was glad that I was able to attend the performance of Fiddler on the Roof. The show was outstanding and worth every dollar. I would highly recommened to anyone if they have the money and a chance to buy a ticket and see this show. I would see it again if it was to come back to Edmonton. The only complaint I have is with the new parkade at the Jubilee Auditorium I am not at all impressed with the parking its not a very good setup. The show made it all worth while though.

by Carryon on 2010-01-24Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

We went to Fiddler on the Roof 25years ago. I t was the first live theatre production we saw. It was just as amazing then as it was last night and Theodore Bikel was just great as Tevye. In fact all the cast was amazing and they so complimented each other. Not hard to tell they love what they do. Another steller performance at the Jubliee. Thank-you.

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed Fiddler on the Roof. This was her Christmas Gift from her Dad and I. I have attended 4 Fiddler on the Roof presentations over the past number of years & enjoyed them all. We thought that the casting was well done and the acting superb.

I grew up with Topol's film version of Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof and honestly expected to be somewhat disappointed by this stage interpretation. From the opening moments, to the wonderfully seamless stage changes, to the emotive singingof the cast and Theodore Bikel's 'conversations' with God, I was smiling with enjoyment. My husband had never seen the movie nor knew anything about the storyline but he was entranced from the beginnning, and pronounced at the end that he would never again sing "If I were a rich man" without remembering this production and the depth of emotion attached to it.

  • Fiddler on the Roof better in person

by rickyd12 on 2010-01-24Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

I loved the show. It was suppose to be a Christmas gift for my Mom but as she was ill and couldn't go, so I asked my husband to go with me, needless to say he was not thrilled about seeing a musical. But after the performance I asked him what he thought and he really enjoyed the performance. Even days later he was talking about it. So maybe now we can go to these types of events together. Great Show, Great Performers!!!

  • A Wonderful performance!

by RunForFun on 2010-01-24Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

The cast and crew did a wonderful job and the sets were fantastic. My reason for not giving it a full 5 stars was because the lines often seemed rushed - particularly Tevye. When Tevye was talking to God in the film version he seemed jovial but respectful. In the stage production Tevye sounded more whiney and his lines seemed a little more rushed- he didn't seem to have the thoughtful pause like in the film. I realize that the film was very long and a stage production would have more time constraints so perhaps that's the reason. Theodore Bikels overall performance was wonderful. The actor who played Motel did a fantastic job!

The overall performance was well choreographed and performed. The timing wasn't always 100% but overall a good show. My main complaint is that it was billed as "Topol in Fiddler on the Roof" but there was no Topol!

  • An Evening With The Fiddler

by MissBizz on 2010-01-24Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

My mother used to clean our home listening to this record blaring throughout the house. The music was fantastic, the props, the costumes, the characters were all very well done..and what can you say about Theodore Bikel....he is amazing, a totel gem. The Jubilee provided the atmosphere and the acoustics were grand. Thank you!

  • fidler on the roof was amazing, parking terrible

by Edjubparkinghater1 on 2010-01-24Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

We would rate this one of the best musicals we have seen. Theodore Bikel is not be missed in his role as Tzeitel. After a great evening a real downer was the Edmonton Jubilee parkade. We were on the top level and the whole parkade had to empty before we moved an inch. This took 35 minutes. People should be warned and park elsewhere or take the LRT. It's a shame to have something like this be something that stands out to end a great evening

Nothing has changed about it's ability to hypnotize and make you laugh. I saw it when I was very young and many years later it is still as enchanting as ever. The actors were well chosen and talented.
