Yes, amazing! 86 yr. old Bikel performing as he did! Perfect delivery. Get a chance? Go!
I was disappointed at first that Topol was not going to be here playing Tevye...Theodore Bikel was magical as Tevye! An amazing performance by the whole cast was spearheaded by Bikel to make a memorable performance.
A fantastic performance! We really enjoyed the show as all of the actors were excellent. Most of all we appreciated Theodore Bikel's performance, as he is a master of comic timings. He was simply amazing , and deserves all of those standing ovations. A most entertaining show and highly recommended.
We thoroughly enjoyed Fiddler on the Roof. It was truly a spectacle and we felt that they did a great job of performing such a beloved classic!
Albsolutely fantastic. The entire show was very well done. Great story line, music and humour.
One of the most enjoyable productions I've been to. The talent of this cast is top notch and they keep you captivated the entire time. Definitely worth every penny. I would highly recommend this production to everyone no matter what age!
Bikel is spectacular in his performance, but it is a pity that the Fiddler and orchestra drown out his wise, Jewish remarks often enough to make this a distraction to the production.
I have wanted to see this play live my whole life. I know the whole story and I know the all the words to every song. I had a vision in my head of what this play should look like. That is a lot of expectation to live up to! I am pleased to say that it lived up to every expectation that I had. The sets were beautiful, the sound quatlity was outstanding and the choreography was excellent. The quality of acting was fabulous and the blend of voices magnificent. I am a big fan of the song "Match Maker" and found the voices of these three actresses to blend better than any others I've heard sing this song. While watching the Prologue when Tevye sings "Tradition" and the company joins in I was blown away by how clear and powerful the sound was. I have been to MANY Broadway performances and this topped it for me in pure power and clarity of voice. Theodore Bikel is Brilliant. He is the reason why I was so desperate to see this particular performance. He is a legend! AND I wondered how a 85 year old man could still pull off the role of Tevye. Well....he didn't have to try to pull of the role of Tevye because I swear that he IS Tevye! Which makes sense seeing as he has played the role over 2000 times! Every tiny move that he made, every small facial expression had a purpose and added to the character. A small shrug of his sholders or tiny hand gesture would have people laughing. Even from the 1st balcony I was able to catch all the facial expressions that made the character and seemed to come so naturally to him. He wasn't acting.....he was being! I got lost in the character. I'll say it again, he was brilliant. My favorite song has always been "Do you love me?" sung by Tevye and Golde. There was a lot of build up in my mind about this one. The friend sitting next to me tells me that I very nearly vibrated out of my seat with excitment when the song began. Susan Cella played a lovely Golde and had such a natural ease with the part that she was a perfect match with this Tevye. The song gave me goosebumps and made me smile thereby satisfying my internal vision of this song. To all of the actors, Thank you. You have made a young(ish.....32) girl's heart happy. Music brings such joy to my heart and last night as I watched you my heart was full. Thank you , thank you, thank you.
We very much booked all of our family to go see Fiddler on the Roof, based on Topol being in the production. Unfortunately, he was not there. However, his replacement was superb. We had a very very good time; including sixteen and twenty one year olds! Very much a family favourite - we have the DVD and the soundtrack - and now the live production to add to our book of family favorites!!
The show was spectacular!!! We laughed so hard, cried a little, and enjoyed every minute!!
" Fiddler on the Roof " was fantastic! The content was both humourous and touching. The playwright did a great job of staying true to the original content portraying a poor Jewish family eking out their existence while trying to ignore the outside world with the pogroms and the Tsar while holding on to their traditions. The set design and lighting was marvelous! I was particularly impressed with the way the scenes were transitioned so smoothly and the flexibility of design which allowed the houses to be used as both interior and exterior settings! The costumes were great. The choreography was fabulous! I particularly liked the use of the mops in the scene with the three sisters discussing whether they were in a hurry to get their matches made. I thought the choreographer did a splendid job of incorporating Bikel's age-related activity limitations. All the actors were great but Bikel as Tevye captivates the audience, drawing them in as co-conspirators as he tries to persuade Golde that Tzeitel should marry the tailor rather than the butcher or as he talks to God. Bikel is a marvellous actor with a great sense of timing - both dramatic and comedic! The orchestra was excellent both in accompaniment and as background! The background music added to the moments without overpowering them, just as effective background music should. Well-worth the time to see this production!
It was outstanding. Tevye has an incredible voice and absolutely great comedic timing. The rest of the cast also had praiseworthy voices. The sets were very innovative and we were particularily amused by the re-positioning of the trees. Definately worth seeing.
We made this a family outing and took our 10 and 13 year old. They enjoyed it just as much as my husband and I did. Very entertaining.
As entertaining as it gets! Bikel rocks! A historic play, iconic, emotional.
Great show. Very well done. Only wished I was sitting closer to the stage.
He was so magnificent and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.
Awesome Performance. Even after 2000 performances, Bikel was the show!
Excellent production, outstanding cast. Enjoyed every minute of it. Have seen this production live and watched the movie several times and still enjoyed being in the audience. Wonderful.
It was FANTASTIC. I loved everything about the show. I loved the whole cast, but I have to make special mention of Mr Bikel, who at age 85 was INCREDIBLE. I loved the show. I sang, I laughed, I cried. My only regret is that I wasn't closer to the stage.
