This was a great night out for any Canadian sports fan. Our team scored early and often, putting all the fans in a great mood.
The game was pretty good, unfortunately it ended up in a tie : ( We definitely out-shot Puerto Rico and there was at least one shot that should have been a goal, but there was some questionable refereeing, in my opinion. There was no question who the better team was.
The World Cup dream looks set to continue on into next summer, but we still need a few more goals.
The food was expensive and horrible. There were no inexpensive souvenirs. They started at $25. The announcer was inaudible. This was a kids birthday party and they were bored by the poor play. The half time contest was stupid. Not even interesting. The concessions ran out of souvenir cups and the kids had nothing to take home. They were so bored they were fighting in the stands like the drunk people behind us in the "family section". Canada needs to do a lot more to make this entertainment if they want soccer to compete with the other sports. This coming from a family who gave up hockey to play soccer year round. Quite disappointing. It wasn't about the game, or the play, but the overall presentation was bad. Very bad. The 10 year old boys were sure that their team could have done better than that.
Loved it. It was great to cheer on the home side and watch them dominate the play. If only more fans would come out, I'm sure they play even better.
Was a fun game with a good Atmosphere and excitement, would have liked to have seen more people especially for a Canada Game but 12000 still made it alot of fun
After the great performance before St Lucia, it is unbelievable this Canada team is the same one that played so well just a few weeks ago. The only player that showed some heart was De Rosario and no wonder he was selected the best player. Lets remember Puerto Rico is ranked 167 in the world and Canada is ranked 85 but this did not show on the field, Canada descended to the playing level of Puerto Rico. The lack of finalization skills must be corrected at once, as well as the strategy. Our players were concentrated on the left area of the field and forgot they have partners on the right.
Good game ! the crowd was nice and it was pleasant! The food, on the other hand, was simply horrible! the most overpriced and pathetic food i have ever eaten! cost us 30$ for a drink, 2 nachos and cheese, a hot dog and "curry" fries. Simply horrible food
I felt a little disappointed at the end of the game. Even though Canada dominated the game, they are expected to win against a minnow like Puerto Rico to stand a chance against much better opponents. Having said that, Puerto Rico played for a tie and their well-organized defense collapsed in their own half all game. It is difficult to break down a team that plays this way. Canada's long-standing problem, the lack of a skillful player upfront, was evident once more. DeRosario tried in the first half but then disappeared in the second. A change of tactic was called for but it did not come. Good to see a decent crowd who cheered for Canada for a change.
Canada had lots of opportunities to win this one, but they went begging of a quality finish. The keeper had to make only one quality save, and he was up to the task to preserve the tie. Canada should have won it, but Puerto Rico was full measure for the tie. Interesting tactic by PR though - all out defense to prevent Canada from scoring! Canada has never faced that tactic so it was interesting to see the reaction. Excellent build up and several quality crosses into the box but poor finishing. When Canada was able to penetrate the area, they should have finished with a goal.
Good seats, not the best atmosphere... although 7pm on a Tuesday vs Puerto Rico isn't exactly ideal to draw a sellout crowd. Only 12,000 people. I'm a hard core Canadian Soccer fan so I will be there in November to see us through to the next round.
i bought the series pack and it worth it! you get 2 game and get 1 free basically since face vaule for a decent seat its 40 dollars in the middle of the field for a good view. Plus, a 30 percent off voucher @ the canada bmo stand for anything. Its time for fans to come out and support the team for its best shot in the world cup qualifiers we had, in a very long time! sad to seethe 200 section not even bothered for tickets to go on sale all empty
There is not question that Canada has come a long way in the last few years in increasing its level of play towards the international level that many national teams exhibit today. Precision of the pass, great speed and intelligent strategy, are elements that our team is mastering little by little. It is still too soon to say as this is the first of our qualifying games but I suspect that with this level of play we will be in Brazil on 2014. Some main players still have to prove themselves and we have the next games to see that.
The stadium should be full. C'mon soccer fans/players we should be supporting our Team.
Great atmosphere in the Canada Supporters' Section
Canada v. St. Lucia was unforgettable for me, my three teenagers and their friend! What an amazing atmosphere in which to catch a game. The Exhibition was on that night, so the walk to and from the stadium was an event in itself! People having fun everywhere! Our boys did what they were supposed to do: thrash a more or less amateur side 4-1. Should have been 10-1. AND they were not satisfied with the performance! This is good. FINALLY an overwhelming number of Canadian supporters in the stands largely due to some effective advertising and a great program that allows youth soccer clubs from across Ontario to come to the qualifiers at great rates. Well done CSA! Lots of wonderful St. Lucian supporters there, too(cool flag!). On-line ordering was fast and easy.
Great way for Canada to start Word Cup Qualifying for 2014. Atmosphere was good (and loud) but the stadium was only half filled (about 11,000 in attendance), and about 10% of them were St. Lucia supporters. Are there really only 10,000 people in the GTA willing to support Canada's soccer team??? --- that was the only down side. Game was great, little chippy towards the end with more stoppages and stretchers on the pitch than I've ever seen....... Looking forward to the next match
I realy liked the soccer game because it wasn't raining and all the fans were frendly and chering for canada. It was a lot of fun chering for canada and it was exiting how canada has so much chances to score. I though the score will be 8-0 but it was 4-1. It was funny because st.lucia had a lot of players going down.
I've never seen so many players from one team in need of the stretcher. The St. Lucian team was unfit and unorganized. It was like watching a group of random guys playing soccer at the local park. They didn't deserve to be standing on the same pitch as the Canadian team.
Great Match, lets hope they can keep up the momentum !
