Fiona was awesome and the set list was great - lots of old favourites with some new sprinkled in.
let's start with the venue. the sound academy is not my favourite venue in toronto. this evening it was damn hot and muggy inside. uncomfortably hot and unless you are right up front, you can never see anything. opening act 'blake' who is one of fiona apple's band members was a bad choice for an opener. not to be rude or disrepectful but blake's music does not fit with fiona at all. i found his music uninteresting and dull. not that it mattered once fiona apple and the rest of her band came out on stage. the show was phenomenal. fiona said very little to the audience choosing instead to let her music do the talking. fiona was much more raw and emotional than on record, she sounded great and put on a terrific show alternating between piano and center stage, rarely standing still. she poured so much emotion into her songs that it's a wonder that her slight body could hold up. the set list was well representative of all four of her albums but it's a bit of a shame that her latest cd was highlighted by only four songs. would have liked to hear more from that cd. that's a minor complaint though. oh, and she didn't perform 'never is a promise'. gasp the reason i say that it was the wrong venue is that the sound academy is basically a bar and fiona's music at times calls for patrons to shut the heck up and listen
