    Mahogany Rush

    by Grasshopper666 on 2010-12-07Sound Academy - Toronto

I was pretty excited to see that Frank was coming to town for a show, so I quickly told my buddy he should come, and my one friend hadn't turned 19 yet so he couldn't come. The first half of the show was a bluesy jam session, followed by some Cream (Crossroads) Jimi Hendrix (Are You Experienced?, Bold As Love), and STRANGE UNIVERSE! After Strange Universe, Frank began a really cool, atmospheric guitar solo that left everyone mesmerized at the end, and rightfully so; it was an excellent display of raw emotion and talent. This led to the finale, a big long jam of Amazing Grace. The graphics in the background were also very cool, a nice psychedelic picture show for the people of that era. I guess maybe I'm just young (19) and don't "get it", but I would have loved to see Chains of Space or Tales of the Spanish Warrior, i.e. some other early Mahogany Rush tunes, but it was still an amazing show and left me in a daze until a few hours afterward, I'd definitely go for something like this again.

Frank Marino - The Best guitarist I've ever seen

by Jerryc on 2010-12-07Sound Academy - Toronto

5 stars aren't enough for the stellar performance we received at the Sound Academy on Sunday night. Having seen most of the best living guitar gods (and a few who are no longer with us) I can honestly say that Frank Marino is the BEST guitarist I've ever seen. When they played Crossroads, I was blown away. I thought I was blown away last February when I saw Jeff Beck & Eric Clapton playing Crossroads together. I have to say that Frank knocked it out of the park and into orbit! I takes a LOT to truly impress me when it comes to guitar playing - Frank amazed me. Frank Marino is undoubtedly the most under-rated guitarist of all time, many people don't know who he is, let alone the fact that he's from Montreal. If you enjoy great guitar work, rock n' roll, and blues - do yourself a favour and grab a ticket, I guarantee you will be amazed. Bottom Line: Would I go see them again? - In a heartbeat!

    Guitar 101

by SnidelyWhiplash on 2010-12-07Sound Academy - Toronto

Marino is insanely good. He's as good, and in many instances better than any brand name heavy weight guitar player you can name. It's a crime that the room was as empty as it was. Great for us as the audience, but not so good for the artist, it should have been sold out. The part that blows me away about Frank is that it never degenerates to wanking or playing for the sake of playing. Then there was the band who were super tight and backing Frank up at every turn. Easily, easily worth 3 or 4 times the ticket price. I have paid way more for much worse shows. If you get a chance to check him out do so.

Frank Marino in Toronto Dec 5th 2010

by rocknrollCole on 2010-12-07Sound Academy - Toronto

For the unfortunate folks that either don't know of, or much of, or haven't seen the legendary Frank Marino and his bandmates Mahogany Rush the saying "you don't know what your missing" has never been used with so much exclamation, ever! I've been lucky enough to see Frank before to which was one of the best shows of my 43 years and some 120+ shows, but this show in Toronto at the Sound Academy was even better. He pulled out a set list from Rock and Roll heaven with some of his bands early hits, a couple of incredible different covers of Hendrix tunes and a bunch of amazing solos including some hugely famous Classical melodies, Jazz renditions, a memorable Christmas song or two's riffs and even ended the show with the most beautiful version of Amazing Grace I could ever even imagine on an electric guitar. All with either melodic perfection and emotion and/or with blistering speed and accuracy the likes of only a few ever to play the instrument. If you are reading this and ever get the chance to see this "Living Legend", you have to treat yourself and drive, fly, run, swim or do whatever in your means possible to go and see the incomprable Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush!

    Frank Marino Guitar God!

by bdgf on 2010-12-07Sound Academy - Toronto

Over 2 1/2 hours of Frank cranking out his guitar magic. After all these years there is still noone who comes near to Frank's level of guitar playing. I watched his fingers move from front row centre and I was in a trance the whole show, blown away by what he can do with his Gibson. The sounds, the range, the incredible licks, the feedback, the show was one non-stop mother jam session. Can't wait for the DVD.. Nothing beats Electric Reflections of War!.......
