I felt that the subject matter was a little too deep for the age group...my son is 4 years old and is already started to grow out of treehouse cartoons, he wants to watch Superhero stuff but he still likes to watch and especially read Franklin books. I know that there is always a lesson to be learned but it was too much for the age of the crowd...kids want more action. As well, the stuff for sale was not great t-shirts and a light wand...what about stuff toys, swords and shields to match Franklin.

    Franklin lacked excitement

by Bennyboo on 2010-04-18The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

I found my self looking at my watch many times throughout the performance. It dragged on, even my 3.5 year old was wondering if it was done yet. Not the best show we have seen. Although the story line was ok, the show seemed to drag on. Franklin and friends were good, and the kids I was with were excited to see him. The show just didnt draw them in the entire time. It lacked the excitement we are used to at children's shows.

    Not so great

by momma2one on 2010-04-18The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

We were looking forward to my 4 year old's first play. Most of it was pre-recorded, except the narrator-troubadour and his two mice friends (and they did a good job with the drivel they were given). You may be thinking "I thought this was a review of Franklin". Yes, Franklin and Bear and Beaver etc. come along eventually, in costumes that don't have mouths that move, so they just walk around while the canned sound plays. The actors accidentally kicked a soccer ball off stage at one point, but Bear tells Franklin "Nice Save!" I guess the canned sound is understandable given the costumes, but the storyline was pretty blah too. Eventually they decide to play knights and rescue Harriet's necklace that a bird stole. They learn the bird is lonely and I guess that's why it is a mean and rude bird and they get the necklace and have to make friends with the rude bird because it is just misunderstood. The musical numbers are uninspired. My son says he liked it, and he did sit through it, but he never had a smile on his face. It should have been called "mostly Franklin's friends you've never heard of and a little bit of a person in a Franklin costume where the face can't move". Overall, I wish I had spent $100 on tickets to the folk festival where we both would have had more fun. I will never buy tickets to a character show again. Certainly not $100 for 3 if the production is at this level.

    Lovely!

by ozteam on 2010-04-18The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

It was a great show, my son really enjoyed it. The singing and dancing was great. The only thing I would recommend is that you should market it to older kids. The messages are too complex for a 2 and 3 year old to understand. My son is 6 and he enjoyed it because he understood the moral of the story. The smaller kids are too noisy.

really good, my girls loved it. If they lost the mice and boosted up the role of the guy narrators role is would have flowed better and less distrating, They really seemed just a after thought to the story.

    Franklin

by Momwithtwokids on 2010-04-16Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

This was a great play. Although I am not sure why some parents bring very young children to this type of play...they just will not sit through something that long. Not to mention the disruption it causes for the rest of the audience. I also think it is sad when people get up and leave when the play is not even finished...as one Mom loudly whispered to her child as they were leaving, lets go now so we can get out of the parking lot first and we don't have to wait. That brings me to the parking...not great at all...I needed to leave myself a lot more time to drive up and down looking for a spot. But on to the play...it was very well done and my kids 4 and 7 really enjoyed it. I liked the music and the story line was very good. I especially liked how towards the end the kids were encourage to get up and dance and clap during one of the last songs. It came at a perfect time and that break for my kids ensured they were able to sit through the rest of the play. All in all we enjoyed ourselves and would recommend the performance to others!

    Fun for the whole family!!

by HappyDaddy09 on 2010-04-14Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

My wife and I took our two year old to see Franklin. I'll admit I was a little nervous about how long her attention span would be, but needless to say, I had nothing to be nervous about. Once the performers hit the stage our girl was spellbound. We are fairly sure she didn't blink through the entire show. I'm writing this 4 days after the show and she is still talking about it.

    Franklin was dull

by Casey2001 on 2010-04-14Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

I found the story line to be far more advanced than most four year olds could comprehend. My son was ok for the first half but faded quickly. The songs were dull and the story never really went anywhere. We left before the show ended. They should have taken either a couple of the popular story titles or show titles and expanded on them, teaching the kids a life lesson, something they could relate to.

    Kids loved it

by SREdm on 2010-04-13Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

The Jubilee was a great venue for this show; great sound quality for musical performances, and small enough that the kids could see the stage clearly from any seat. My son and my friend's son (both almost 3) loved it and the show included all the main characters from the show. It was a little too long for my son, he was ready to go at the intermission but my friend's son had no problem watching the show from start to finish and was really into it (depends on the attention span of your child I guess!). The show was 1.5 hours including a 20 minute intermission. I would recommend this to others with small children, it was really cute with lots of music.

    Franklin is Fantastic

by Anonymous on 2010-04-13Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Calgary

My 2 1/2 year old daughter was spellbound for most of the show. The live action was great and the story was heart warming. All of the children in the audience shouted the names as each character as they came on stage.

I really enjoyed taking my 4 yr old to see Franklin! He was very excited to see all the characters and was familiar with the story. We both enjoyed the songs and the length was appropriate for his age.

    Franklin concert

by JCJC1234 on 2010-04-13Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

The event itself was quite good. There were a lot of noisy kids and people walking in and out during the performance though, which was a bit distracting. Might have been too long of a show for the age group targeted.

    Fun for the little ones!

by mrsgryphon on 2010-04-13Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

The girls in our little group (3 four year olds!) loved Franklin - they were bouncing in their seats (literally) and singing along. They had a great time! I only gave it four stars just because there were times when the audio was a little hard for the girls to understand. Otherwise, the show was easy for them to follow and they enjoyed it!
