About

Girl Talk in Concert

Girl Talk (aka Pittsburgh's Gregg Gillis) has been constructing meticulous sample-based music since 2000. His early work was known for its raw experimental nature, but by the release of his 2006 album, Night Ripper, that style evolved into genre-smashing, breakneck-paced party jams. Night Ripper consisted of over 300 songs, from wildly disparate Top 40 genres and eras, mashed up and layered together into one cohesive collage. It received critical acclaim, and the attention resulted in a rapidly growing fan base. Gillis ended up quitting his biomedical engineering day job one year later.

Girl Talk continued to develop his signature style with the release of Feed the Animals in 2008 and All Day in 2010. Each album grew increasingly detailed and complex. He steadily toured over the following years, bringing his renowned confetti-covered and sweat-soaked performances to venues ranging from house party basements to major festivals. By 2014, Gillis began focusing on collaborative work producing hip hop for some of his favorite rap artists. That same year, he released "Broken Ankles," an EP with Freeway. Since "Broken Ankles", Gillis has steadily earned an impressive list of production credits and collaborations with his artistic contemporaries including, but not limited to, Wiz Khalifa, T-Pain, Tory Lanez, Young Nudy, Bas, Cozz, Erick The Architect (from Flatbush Zombies), Smoke DZA, and Don Q.

    Incredible Energy!

by Dowser on 2009-09-21Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

The mixing capabilities this guy has are second to none. His energy as a DJ is just downright ridiculous. I've never seen so many sweaty individuals at a show before, including the DJ himeself. Wow, I should've worn my lululemon's and left my heels at home =) The only thing I was disappointed with was that the show was WAY TOO SHORT. GT got on around 10:15 and stopped just after midnight. Damn Sunday show time....However, I'm still glad that I went and would definitely come back to see him play again.

    Girl Talk at the commodore

by RexHardtop on 2009-09-21Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

After seeing Girl Talk last summer at the same venue I was not sure if he could beat his last performance. But, seeing as he did a different set on Sunday night than his Saturday night show I knew I was going to be in for a mind blowing experience. The music was great and he deviated from his last album Feed The Animals a bit more than last year, and I was glad as I am anticipating a new album hopefully in the near future. Fantastic mash ups and an awesome crowd made a Sunday night a wicked dance party.

I have seen Girl Talk in the past and it is always a good show. This time was definitely no exception. The energy was incredible and the music was mind blowingly fun. I am pretty sure I didnt have to use my legs for the hour as the crowd carried me the whole time. I left on such a high it was amazing. anyone and everyone would enjoy this show.

Girl Talk was good, but his opener was horrible.

by rdub on 2009-09-20Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

I wasn't expecting an opening guest for this year, but I can tell you that the band he chose wasn't the greatest. The band was horrible, the rapper was okay.
