Gladys Knight On Tour

The "Empress of Soul" is back. One of Motown's most iconic acts, Gladys Knight, returns to the big stage in 25 cities across North America for her 2022 tour. Although she's perhaps best known for her original rendition of the R&B classic "I Heard it Through the Grapevine (1967)," Knight has remained in the limelight as one of the all-time greats for the last 60 years. The seven-time Grammy award winner has won across three categories including Pop, R&B and Gospel, and has another 22 nominations spanning across five decades. Over her illustrious career, she has released 10 studio albums, with her debut album Miss Gladys Knight releasing in 1978, and her most recent work Where My Heart Belongs coming out in 2014. In 1996, her band Gladys Knight & the Pips was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Knight was also included on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Singers of All Time list. Off the stage, Knight has authored two books, including a biography titled Each Line of Pain and Glory: My Life Story, and made various appearances on television and the big screen. Her most recent appearances came when she played herself in Coming 2 America in 2021 and when she wore the bee costume on "The Masked Singer" in 2019.

Gladys Knight in Concert

Gladys Knight was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Merald Knight Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth on May 28, 1944. She has a sister (Brenda) and two brothers (Merald "Bubba" Jr. and David). As a child and into her teens, Knight sang in her local church choir where she refined her Motown chops. She had her first breakthrough into the spotlight at the age of 8 when she won Ted Mack's The Original Amateur Hour contest. Over the next few years, Knight and four of her family members (Bubba, Edward Patten, Langston George, and William Guest) formed a performing group to be called Gladys Knight & the Pips. After a successful run in the local Atlanta music scene, the group received a record deal with Brunswick Records in 1957 and began opening for legends in the music scene and influences on their style such as Sam Cooke. The group's first record to chart was in fact a cover of Johnny Otis' "Every Beat of My Heart," which made it into the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Knight left the group in 1962 after a string of successful releases such as "Letter Full of Tears" to start a family with her husband Jimmy Newman. However, she returned to the group two years later and went on to critical success over the course of the next five decades.

  • It was a fantastic Knight!

by Gwen on 2009-07-15Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 5 out of 5

I loved the show very much. Enjoyed it thoroughly.

  • Short Show

by alexa on 2009-07-15Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 3 out of 5

Ms. Knight appeared 15 minutes late and although her singing was incredible the mood had been set. The show was only one hour long and not good value for the money. I would recommend Ms. Knight performances if she extended the time length and promptness of her appearance. The 3 stars reflect those two issues.

  • Gladys Knight at Rama!

by GKFan on 2009-07-15Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 5 out of 5

1 1/2 hours of music pleasure ... from the opening song to the end. Gladys delivers her trademark songs without the Pips and they still sound as good as when I was listening to them on 45's. Sound system at Rama was its usual excellent caliber and her backup musicians and singers were great. Anytime Gladys Knight is in the area I highly suggest fans to go see her. As the saying goes ... only better with time!

  • A solid performance!

by luvfunk on 2009-07-15Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 5 out of 5

Gladys is a wonderful performer who makes the audience feel as if we are dear friends. Not only does she sing each song beautifully, but she has an anecdote to share between each one. Her personality was glowing.

I went to the Gladys Knight show with friends. Although I had heard some of her music before I wasn't a huge fan. But the performance was excellent! She did a great job entertaining the crowd. It was lots of fun!

  • Rama needs a new policy

by mikeyman on 2009-07-15Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 5 out of 5

concert was fantastic, gladys was great, but Rama needs a new policy that if you are more than 15 minutes late, you will not be seated...people walking in throughout the entire concert is not cool!

  • I loved Gladys

    by KRM1234 on 2009-07-14Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 5 out of 5

I worked in the concert business for years and have seen many, many shows. I recently had the very good fortune of seeing Gladys Knight preform at Rama. She was absolutely wonderful. It was without a doubt one of the best shows I have ever seen.

My wife and I enjoyed Gladys performance, she is truly an entertainer, would have loved an additional half an hour.

  • Gladys Knight Rocked the House!

by Sweets on 2009-07-14Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 5 out of 5

Having been a Gladys Knight fan for many years, I was skeptical about how her voice would compare to my "lps". Well--the night was sheer delight! Gladys' voice sounded just the same as in her recordings, and her onstage charisma added to the enchantment! What a show! I am so glad I was able to be at the show!

  • Glady's sounded amazing!!!

by pooch on 2009-07-14Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 5 out of 5

Glady's sounded great, smoothly transitioned from song to song and did a great job of taking you back to when the song originally came out. Also the appearance of an orignal Pip was great bonus.....What a show!!

  • Gladys Knight rocks!

by Larrball on 2009-07-14Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 4 out of 5

Gladys did not disappoint us at all - her voice is as warm and rich as ever and she gave a great concert. I was hoping to hear her sing "I hope you dance" but she has such a huge repertoire, that I guess that was not one of the chosen ones. Did she notice that she got a much better reaction from the crowd when she sang the oldies but goodies? Casino Rama's chairs need to be a wee bit more comfortable. My partner was not comfortable and fidgeted all through the concert. There should also be more variety of food offered at the snack bar. We came in from Mississauga and were caught in traffic and had nothing to eat except a huge hot dog which sat in our stomachs all night long - yech! All in all a good experience - we are interested in the Robin Williams concert but would plan our trip a little better re dinner and hotel.

  • Where's Bubba?

by Winger on 2009-07-14Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 3 out of 5

This is the second time that we had seen Gladys Knight at Rama. I thought that this performance was much briefer than the last. The performance started late and ended much too early. I don't think that she sang all the songs that made her and the Pips so famous. For the last song she mentioned that one of the members of the Pips, Bubba, would make an appear. We still have not seen him.

  • She's still got it !

by tervan on 2009-07-14Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 5 out of 5

Yes, Gladys still has it ! She worked the stage, flashed that great smile, and belted out our favorites with gusto ! Near the end of the show her older brother, "Bubba", an original "Pip", also took the stage. With humorous antics, great singing and dancing, he thoroughly entertained us. Gladys also sang with "Bubba" and magic was still there. What a show ! Highly recommended !

  • Gladys was great!

by Kevinagladysfan on 2009-07-14Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 4 out of 5

Gladys Knight gave a wonderful performance at Casino Rama. She took us down "memory lane" at Motown, with the Pips and doing more than one sentimental favourite (plus, of course, all of her hits). Can't wait for you to come back, Gladys and you take care 'till then!

  • TOO SHORT!!!

by krismgw on 2009-07-14Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 3 out of 5

The concert was very good but much too short......60 minutes. Gladys Knight still had her full range and was a crowd pleaser. My only complaint was the length of the show as we traveled from London.

  • She was Amazing

Great show, hadn't seen her live since the 70's.. Bring her back soon. Please!

  • Wonderful Gladys!!

What a wonderful evening! Gladys was fantastic!!! Thank you Casino Rama for a great show!

  • Gladys Knight was amazing, she is a definite must

by Godiva on 2009-07-14Casino Rama - OrilliaRating: 5 out of 5

I grew up with my mother playing Motown music. When I saw that Gladys was playing I knew I had to get my mother and I tickets. Gladys Knight was ingrained in my music soul before I new what music I even liked. I could sing Midnight Train to Georgia before I was two. This experience was one I will remember forever.
