Gladys Knight On Tour

The "Empress of Soul" is back. One of Motown's most iconic acts, Gladys Knight, returns to the big stage in 25 cities across North America for her 2022 tour. Although she's perhaps best known for her original rendition of the R&B classic "I Heard it Through the Grapevine (1967)," Knight has remained in the limelight as one of the all-time greats for the last 60 years. The seven-time Grammy award winner has won across three categories including Pop, R&B and Gospel, and has another 22 nominations spanning across five decades. Over her illustrious career, she has released 10 studio albums, with her debut album Miss Gladys Knight releasing in 1978, and her most recent work Where My Heart Belongs coming out in 2014. In 1996, her band Gladys Knight & the Pips was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Knight was also included on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Singers of All Time list. Off the stage, Knight has authored two books, including a biography titled Each Line of Pain and Glory: My Life Story, and made various appearances on television and the big screen. Her most recent appearances came when she played herself in Coming 2 America in 2021 and when she wore the bee costume on "The Masked Singer" in 2019.

Gladys Knight in Concert

Gladys Knight was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Merald Knight Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth on May 28, 1944. She has a sister (Brenda) and two brothers (Merald "Bubba" Jr. and David). As a child and into her teens, Knight sang in her local church choir where she refined her Motown chops. She had her first breakthrough into the spotlight at the age of 8 when she won Ted Mack's The Original Amateur Hour contest. Over the next few years, Knight and four of her family members (Bubba, Edward Patten, Langston George, and William Guest) formed a performing group to be called Gladys Knight & the Pips. After a successful run in the local Atlanta music scene, the group received a record deal with Brunswick Records in 1957 and began opening for legends in the music scene and influences on their style such as Sam Cooke. The group's first record to chart was in fact a cover of Johnny Otis' "Every Beat of My Heart," which made it into the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Knight left the group in 1962 after a string of successful releases such as "Letter Full of Tears" to start a family with her husband Jimmy Newman. However, she returned to the group two years later and went on to critical success over the course of the next five decades.

    Gladys Knight

My wife & I enjoyed the performance very much and would definitely recommend it others. Gladys' voice was in top notch form and her band was the best. It was an added bonus for us to see her brother perform a couple of songs with her. He was one of the original Pips.

Gladys Knight is truly The Empress of Soul!

by Carlo73 on 2010-04-03The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara Falls

At 65 years young, Gladys Knight is still looking youthful and beautiful. Most importantly, her vocals are stronger and fuller than ever. At the Fallsview Casino last night, she did not fail to impress. I was simply amazed that she still sounded exactly like she does on her recordings, some of which date back as far as almost 50 years ago. She is very genuine and spoke with much thankfulness and gratitude to her fans. There was also much stage banter. The fun continued when she brought her legendary brother, "Bubba Knight" of the Pips onstage with her to perform a couple of numbers. Not only is Gladys a real legend in every sense of the word, she still has the goods to back it up. They don't make them like this anymore! I would definitely see her again. It was an awesome show.

    She still has the moves!

by MammaGmac on 2010-04-03The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara Falls

What a moving night! Where do I start? The lady still has the voice , the moves and a terrific sense of humour. Wonderful songs to make you want to dance the night away. I did not want the night to end. The band was amazing as well. The only disappointment...it ended too soon...couldn't she have just sung all night?

    What the hell happened?

by darlindarla on 2009-07-21Casino Rama - Orillia

i broke my ankle in 3 places so had to hire a driver to take me from Stoney Creek to Casinorama. i go to over 30 concerts a yr -saw Gladys last yr @ Fallsview Casino & have attended her concerts since the 60's. i bought a ticket b4 my accident & had 4th row center. when i showed up in the chair, they gave me a comp & had to sit on floor level in the last row & no compensation. she sang for exactly 1 hr & then when she went into another song, she kept saying her brother would be out when he heard this song & he never showed up. then she quickly ended the show & never even came back for an encore. she has always done an hr & half show minimum & came back to shake hands& another song. there was a lot of pissed of people like myself who drove over 5 hrs for a 1 hr show. she was great but a great disappointment for the quick exit without an explanation. i sure wish i knew what happened & did she show up for the concert there the next nite. i had a nurse come over early to get me ready for hrs plus the buffet sucked. i think we deserved an explanation as to what happened. signed mad as hell

    Gladys Makes My Heart Happy

by MusicIsMyBoyfriend on 2009-07-16Casino Rama - Orillia

My sister and I took my mother to see Gladys Knight in June for her birthday. What can I say? This is my second time seeing Gladys at Casino Rama, and she blew me away just as much as she did the first time. My great Aunt and her daughter were also in attendance, and the most memorable thing about watching Gladys perform is the sheer happiness that she spreads across the audience, and the way that she makes you feel. There is nothing better than listening to a musical great belt out songs that give you chills up your spine! I have a very broad musical taste, and attribute my love of Motown to my dear mother. I attend musical shows very often, and I must say, that seeing Gladys Knight rivals my favourite live moments of all time. This will not be the last time I see Ms Knight in all of her glory!

    Gladys was Amazing!

by arealfan on 2009-07-15Casino Rama - Orillia

I am a huge R&B fan and an even bigger fan of Gladys Knight. I have one of her and the "Pips" first songs, " Every Beat of My Heart". This is the first time seeing Gladys. Her performance was wonderful and her voice has aged so well with time. The band was excellent too. Her selection of songs was well thought out, going back to the beginning and even covering her recent Big Band renditions. Our floor seats were extremely well priced. My only crticism is that she came on at 8:15pm and was finished just after 9:30pm! Too short. The bright lights came on immeditely with no encore. To me it seemed like a real push to get those seats in the casino filled.

Gladys Knight was more than amazing!

by marisa on 2009-07-15Casino Rama - Orillia

Never expected Gladys Knight to be anything less than perfect. From the moment she came on and you first see her contagious smile her last note in "midnight train to georgia" i was captured and whisked off to that beautiful place she takes us to whenever we hear her sing. She sounded better live than on any of her recordings. Full of life, warmth, still loving what she does. I'd go see her again in a heartbeat! Thank You Gladys for making it the best night of my life...

    Gladys short but sweet!

by GladysGal on 2009-07-15Casino Rama - Orillia

I love Gladys so I was really excited to be seeing her live at Rama. However, I was disappointed that she was 20 minutes late and even though she said that she loved us several times, her concert was only an hour and 15 minutes long. Also she talked a lot so that cut down on the number of songs as well. What she did do was great but I think she owes it to her paying fans to sing a little more.

    Gladys Knight Laid It Down!

by WOWWEE on 2009-07-15Casino Rama - Orillia

Feeling a little adventurous, I bought tickets to Gladys Knight at Casino Rama as a surprise for my girlfriend and I. Focused on scoring some points, I had little expectation that I would enjoy the evening as much as I did. I have to say that Gladys Knight didn't hold back at all - full value. I enjoyed the concert and the casino and would recommend that type of evening to anyone!
