    Awesome production

by VincentFanGoh on 2015-12-25The Centre in Vancouver - Vancouver

The show was spectacular. Costumes and set design were outstanding. They also incorporated a bit of flair from several different cultures, bringing in traditional Russian dancers, dancers with a middle Eastern theme, traditional old school Chinese costumes and dance routines, and of course the costumes and set design expected of the traditional Nurcracker production (the sugar plum fairy, Clara and her family, the toy soldier and mice, etc.). The dancing was impeccably well matched to the music and the two lead dancers were simply stunning in poise, grace, and technique.

    Goh's Nutcracker an amazing surprise

by Monikee on 2015-12-24The Centre in Vancouver - Vancouver

After seeing many professionally ranked companies perform this ballet, I was expecting an amusing version... but nothing over the top. To my great surprise, the Goh gave me an evening to remember. It was very interesting the way it was put together, with continuous action on stage. The dancers were wonderful, the costumes gorgeous, and the scenery first class. Hopefully, the company will be able to continue performing at this level.

    Goh Ballet

by kibble on 2015-12-23The Centre in Vancouver - Vancouver

I've gone to this event for at least 6 of the 8 years its been playing. The talent of these dancers are bar none and the little mice and sheep are adorable. The costumes are unforgettable. This year there was a change to a couple of dance numbers. The Arabic (coffee) dance was a little lack lustre this year, I much preferred the one male and one female version of the dance. It was the least favourite dance for my Mother and it was her first time seeing the performance. Now saying that I really enjoyed all the other dances even with the changes for example the dragonflies were awesome and cute. Over all I enjoyed it and will go again.

    Beautiful and entertaining production

by GrandmaF on 2015-12-23The Centre in Vancouver - Vancouver

This was my second Goh Nutcracker and it met all expectations. The abundance of young dancers and gymnasts impressed my granddaughter. Would gladly make this a yearly tradition. Only criticism: amplification of music

    Christmas classic

Wonderful performance, beautifully danced. The sets were amazing. I particularly enjoyed the three young men who played the Cossack dancers, and the youngsters are very talented.

    Great performance, abysmal seats.

by VanErudite on 2015-12-22The Centre in Vancouver - Vancouver

The Goh Ballet performance of the Nutcracker is a holiday tradition for us, and as always the performance was lovely. Bearing in mind that many of the dancers are students at the Goh, the choreography tends to be on the simpler side to match their skills. As long as you go in thinking of it as a community production, you will be blown away. If you go in expecting the Royal Winnipeg Ballet or the Met, you will be disappointed..

The nutcracker didn't live up to expectations

by stardom on 2015-12-21The Centre in Vancouver - Vancouver

The costumes were beautiful and the music and dance were good. But the show itself was boring. It dragged on too long and fell flat. There was no magic.

    The Nutcracker Ballet

by danishprincess on 2014-12-30The Centre in Vancouver - Vancouver

The ballet was perfect! The choreography was impeccable, the timing and movements of the artists beautiful, the costumes were gorgeous and the changes of backdrops were delivered perfectly. The prima ballerina, Palerma Herrera, executed her movements so smoothly she appeared to be floating and her timing to the orchestrated music was impeccable. A truly wonderful experience that I would recommend to everyone. Brava!!!

Modern touch to a very classic ballet. Principle dancers very good - a few supporting cast not quite there.

    Great performance!

by Equd on 2014-12-26Center for Performing Arts - Vancouver

This is my second year going to the Goh ballet's Nutcracker. I enjoyed the performance quite a bit this year. Details - -There are many kids involved in the performance, and I think it's great. Kids, and especially Clara, were wonderful, well rehearsed and knew what they were supposed to be doing. Mice and lamb were absolutely adorable. And slightly older kids (e.g. Chinese children, little angels, party girls/boys danced very well. -Drosselmeir seemed not as good at doing tricks as the previous year's magician. I think last year they used an actually professional magician. This year's is an older ballet dancer/choreographer. He also got tangled up in his long cape at times, and this was a bit distracting. -Quite a bit of the older girls' technique #e.g. waltz of the flowers, snowflakes# was not as polished as I would have liked to see. Heavy jumps, unpointed toes, etc. -This year I absolutely loved and adored their soloist Paloma Herrera. She was so good and lovely. She took my breath away. I also enjoyed the dancing of Dmitri, the prince. He was very good! -Biggest disappointment and distraction was the terrible choir. Two groups of singers come to the sides of the stage to sing during the snowflake dance. Last year it was truly wonderful and special. At first you couldn't even tell where the singing was coming from, they were so in tune with the orchestra. This year however, they were late compared to the music. But most importantly, left and right group were not singing together. Right group would start, and then the left group would realize they are supposed to start as well. At times, they would not even catch up to each other. Also, their pitch was not in tune with the orchestra. -Despite some of these quirks, the overall quality and entertainment value is very good. Second act's angels, Russian dancers, Chinese dancers and Merlitons were wonderful. First act provides a lot of entertainment too. Battler scene is very fun, and snow queen and king duo is great as well.

Goh B. pulled off a beautiful fun local piece

by ArtsyEngineer on 2014-12-24The Centre in Vancouver - Vancouver

Timeless classic, excellent featured performers. The inclusion of the junior members of the ballet was handled beautifully, as it allowed the professional performances to shine through. We loved the live orchestra, Maestro Dalla lead a magnificent performance. I don't think an amateur company could have performed any better than this without going 100% pro.
