The orchestra was excellent and should be congratulated (again) for their performance. The scenery was phenomenal and certainly enhanced the storytelling. A Christmas tradition in our family and was enjoyed by all.
There was only one server during intermission and not enough snacks and drinks for all the hungry kids. We missed the 2nd part of the show to be able to get one small cranberry juice for 5$ and we could not bring drinks inside. Kids were hungry because the show starts at 13:30 for a saturday that means we only had late breakfast and kids were more hungry than interested in the show. Dissapointed in the NAC staff for this part but the show was good. Will not buy tickets next year.
The Nutcracker is an annual tradition of ours. This particular performance had awe-inspiring sets that look like beautiful illustrations from a children's book. Aside from the exceptional Sugar Plum Fairy though, the rest of the cast are average to just going through the paces. And I'm also not sure about the jester role. S/he could either be entertaining or annoying to the audience, and breaks the fluidity of the performance narrative.
Both grandaughters aged 4 and 5, sat wide eyed at the magic on the stage: beautiful costumes, twirling dancers, and energetic ballet children. They want to go again next year.
My two daughters and I see the Nutcracker Ballet every Christmas season as many do, it has always been an activity loved and enjoyed and a means to pull us away from the shopping and commercial side of the holiday. Les Grands Ballet provided us with a wonderful escape into the world of Clara and her nutcracker using beautiful and innovative choreography and absolutely gorgeous costuming. The stunning visual effects of the clothing and sets were like another character of the show. Rich and flowing, the colours and style truly brought the performance to its summit. The orchestra also performed beautifully and brought tears to my eyes. The dancers, including many children, were beautiful and athletic, a pleasure to watch and enjoy. Standing ovation to them all. To be able to see this ballet every year and find something unique, entertaining and beautiful is a privilege and one of my favourite experiences of the year. Highly recommend!
Took my 8 year old daughter to see the Nutcracker ballet and we both absolutely loved it. Everyone in the shiw was amazing and we loved the decor on stage. So well done.
What an incredible show! Everything was beautiful especially the costumes. Some of the most beautiful costumes I’ve seen for The Nutcracker. Choreography and set designs were great and added to the experience
The sets were so intricate and well done. The 2D style was neat and added to the whimsical feel for the show. The costumes were stunning and the dancers very talented. There were a couple dancers who were a little out of time with the rest of the dancers, but most of the soloists/duos were perfect! Loved it!
Love the staging first of all! I do like the Montreal flare! The subtle changes of characters added into the original cast gave a little comedy effect without to much of a change. This allowed for originality that did not disrupt the traditional ballet! Well done! Excellent entertainment!
Nutcracker: The first act was a not stop whirlwind of activity that captivated my attention the entire time. The second was also very busy, but noticed that many dancers' moves were not terribly outstanding, as in past performances of the Nutcracker. Nevertheless, it was very enjoyable!

Les Grands Ballet de Montreal was amazing with the dancer's abilities. The story of the Nutcracker was portrayed in a very audience engaging way that our whole family enjoyed. The set construction and change was incredible! I do wish that the seating structure provided a height that the person seated in front of you wouldn't be obstructing your view. I also don't think that people should be permitted to leave and return during the show. It was disruptive to our experience at the NAC.
Beautiful design. Lovely ballet! The best way to start the Christmas season. Orchestra was brilliant.

I have been to a few Nutcracker shows over the years and the Grand Ballet de Montreal nutcracker never ceases to impress me. Not only are the dancers incredibly talented, there is always an element of surprise or a detail that enchants in the choreography. It is a must see show.
One of the best Nutcracker productions I have ever seen. Costumes were magnificent!!! So colourful and creative. Just amazing!
I have been taking my children to see the Nutcracker at the NAC every year for 15 years. We LOVED this production. The costumes were spectacular, the sets and lighting were magical (oh how the set changed colour in act 2 - beautiful!), and the dancing…excellent. We specifically loved Clara, Fritz and his shenanigans, the Sugar Plum fairy, and the King of Sweets (so funny!). The entire production was eye candy and a very special treat for us this Christmas season.
This is one of the best Nutcracker interpretations I have seen and I have seen many!
We thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Everything was perfection. The principal dancers were great to see and the children were fabulous. The NAC orchestra was fabulous. A wonderful experience.
We saw the Grands Ballet de Montreal perform Sleeping Beauty at the NAC in Ottawa. It was such a beautiful show from the dancers to the costumes to the scenery. The music was wonderful as well. We thoroughly enjoyed every part of the show and look forward to seeing the Grands Ballet perform again!
