About

GWAR IN CONCERT:

When it comes to gory thrash metal spectacle, no other band even comes close to the sick and twisted monstrosity that is GWAR. Taking the stage in gruesomely excellent costumes, the band executes their hilarious metal send-ups with a faux-macabre pageantry that approaches the divine, sacrificing celebrity effigies on stage and dousing entire audiences in fake blood. Whether they're unleashing "The New Plague" or demanding that "Zombies, March!", GWAR put on a show like no other act on earth, and despite longtime frontman David Brockie's recent passing the ever-dedicated band still plans to treat fans to select shows in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Virginia in 1984, GWAR developed an early following with their costumed, prop-filled, spectacle-heavy take on thrash metal. Simultaneously embracing and poking fun at the genre's extremes, the band struck a chord with audiences looking to indulge in metal's excesses without taking them too seriously. Their 1988 debut LP Hell-O was a huge hit in Germany, with subsequent albums like Carnival of Chaos (1997) and We Kill Everything (1999) enjoying considerable success in the US. Over the years, they've landed songs with titles like "Endless Apocalypse" and "War Is All We Know" on charts around the world, an impressive feat for a group of guys who claim the destruction of the human race as their primary goal. In early 2014, GWAR frontman David Brockie was found dead from unknown causes. In a show of tremendous fortitude and strength, the band announced several David Brockie memorial events and still plans to appear at select events throughout the year.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Gwar rocked, it was fun, the crowd was definitely into it. The pageantry was definitely funny and fun. Be prepared to get covered in blood..."

"If you like metal and have a sick sense of humor, go see them. What a festival of blood, theatrics, and crisply played thrash metal. GWAR was a complete spectacle ."

"GWAR nailed it. Theatrics were well balanced; new album cut is sick. Eagerly awaiting the next show."

    GWAR was amazing

by spaps on 2010-10-25The Opera House - Toronto

The opening three acts were all great. I especially liked Infernaeon, the second band up. They played hard and loud. But of course, GWAR was amazing. It's pure entertainment with the music and the shenanigans on stage.

    Lets Get Bloody!!!

by Firejackel on 2010-01-17MacEwan Hall - Calgary

Well I got lost in the beer garden during The Red Chord so didn’t catch their set. From what I could hear they were fairly decent so I hope to get the chance to see them again. Job for a Cowboy were awsome. I saw them a few years ago at Gigantour and was really disappointed. This show made up for it. The vocals were very strong and clear making for a much better experience. The guys played about a 40 minute set consisting of about 8 songs. This was my second GWAR expierence. After seeing them once I don’t think I’ll ever miss a show again. Just like the last show I got right into the pit getting cover in “Blood and space Jizz”. I feel if you don’t expierence the whole GWAR effect you missing out on 50% of the expierence. The set was a good hour and a half and consisted of 14 songs and the usual theatrics.

As was to be expected, Gwar put on the best show Edmonton can ever have. The opener was rather boring though

    25 years too long....

    by SK8RCHILD on 2009-12-09MacEwan Hall - Calgary

I never miss GWAR when they spray through town. I must say this was the weakest GWAR show I have ever been to. There was a 10th of the blood used on stage, the stage show was cut in half, and the Oderus (Brockie) didn't know half the words to his new songs. If GWAR is leaving this planet for good, than they didn't show us that they had fun while they were here.

GWAR lived up to their reputation

by tjorvi on 2009-12-04MacEwan Hall - Calgary

Until recently, I had never even heard of GWAR. A friend took me to their concert at Mac Hall. They were Freakin unbelievable. True performance artists. You weren't just going to see a band play. It was the whole Freakin package. I can understand why many people were jealous when they heard I was going to see these guys. Freakin awesome.

    Gwar at the Commodore~

by Nill on 2009-12-03Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

What can I say? GWAR was amazing as always, if not a little short. Job For a Cowboy opened, and despite some sound problems seemed to win the crowd over. My only complaint about the Venue was the strict no re-entry policy, and (obviously) a non-smoking building. The smokers (alot of us) were close to rioting! (well, maybe not but bitchy to say the least). Drinks were slightly pricey, but within the realm of being reasonable. Great service, really nice floor for moshing, well set-up.

Very lovely performance indeed. The bile was rich and fragrant, and the blood was nice and dark.
