About

GWAR IN CONCERT:

When it comes to gory thrash metal spectacle, no other band even comes close to the sick and twisted monstrosity that is GWAR. Taking the stage in gruesomely excellent costumes, the band executes their hilarious metal send-ups with a faux-macabre pageantry that approaches the divine, sacrificing celebrity effigies on stage and dousing entire audiences in fake blood. Whether they're unleashing "The New Plague" or demanding that "Zombies, March!", GWAR put on a show like no other act on earth, and despite longtime frontman David Brockie's recent passing the ever-dedicated band still plans to treat fans to select shows in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Virginia in 1984, GWAR developed an early following with their costumed, prop-filled, spectacle-heavy take on thrash metal. Simultaneously embracing and poking fun at the genre's extremes, the band struck a chord with audiences looking to indulge in metal's excesses without taking them too seriously. Their 1988 debut LP Hell-O was a huge hit in Germany, with subsequent albums like Carnival of Chaos (1997) and We Kill Everything (1999) enjoying considerable success in the US. Over the years, they've landed songs with titles like "Endless Apocalypse" and "War Is All We Know" on charts around the world, an impressive feat for a group of guys who claim the destruction of the human race as their primary goal. In early 2014, GWAR frontman David Brockie was found dead from unknown causes. In a show of tremendous fortitude and strength, the band announced several David Brockie memorial events and still plans to appear at select events throughout the year.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Gwar rocked, it was fun, the crowd was definitely into it. The pageantry was definitely funny and fun. Be prepared to get covered in blood..."

"If you like metal and have a sick sense of humor, go see them. What a festival of blood, theatrics, and crisply played thrash metal. GWAR was a complete spectacle ."

"GWAR nailed it. Theatrics were well balanced; new album cut is sick. Eagerly awaiting the next show."

Bucket list crossed off twice now

    by John Stufko on 2021-06-18

In 2012 in Winnipeg I got to take my son for his birthday and to see Legacy of disorder Cancer Bats DevilDriver was absolutely amazing but to get Mitt Romney's 47% as he turned his head was beyond glorious. I so so can't wait to enjoy the gloriousness of being slayed by Gwar in Vancouver in December Merry Christmas to me and everyone else toođŸ»đŸ€˜đŸ€˜

    Bloodbath at GWAR

by KaityP on 2017-11-11Pyramid Cabaret - Winnipeg

Thank you to the Pyramid for letting GWAR put on a messy and bloody show. It's not a big stage but they made it work and I didn't feel like we missed out on anything. The openers were also a ton of fun!

    Gwar is good

    by JETSFAN10 on 2014-11-17Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Bettter than I thought it would be without Oderous..........he is surely missed and the show was really dedicated to him. The others (as in other singers) are great fill in though. Definitely made the show fly. Don't hesitate to go, they put on a great show as always! VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH CORROSION OF CONFORMITY. - TERRBILE SHOW FROM THEM. Not the band you saw in the 80/90's era that's FORSURE. God awful Didn't see American Sharks......

    Gwar is never a letdown

by SonofBrian on 2012-11-27The Garrick Centre - Winnipeg

Very few bands can have my undivided attention so many times over. This is the 4th time and I intend to keep going to their shows. It is always entertaining, and the best place to vent. The fans at the show are as much a show as the band, with a sense of community. No hatred, no bias, all equal under Gwar. The next best thing about the Gwar shows is that they always being amazing opening acts. Devil Driver was awesome (and way overdue for me to see). Next time Gwar comes to town, check them out. You get more bang for your buck (even if you don't know their songs it doesn't matter) than any other show. I dare anyone to prove their 150 dollar concert can match up to the talent and determination of any Gwar show lineup.

Monster Metal Punk at its Finest

    by MisterMojo555 on 2012-11-26Sound Academy - Toronto

I've been a hard edged music fan for a lifetime and always wanted to see GWAR. I finally did. If you're into things that are different and into hard edged music, GWAR is a must. Absolutely awesome musicians, super heavy, super fast. Stage show was out of this world. If you like getting sprayed in blood, get centre stage and up close. GWAR also has a great fan base as the show was packed. Worthwhile seeing at least once in a lifetime.

Regrettably we missed Cancer Bats, but Devildriver and Gwar were absolutley fantastic. Got to meet the guys from Cancer Bats at their merch booth and they were really good guys, very nice.

Opening bands for GWAR were better than GWAR was!

by MetalV on 2012-11-16Edmonton Event Centre - Edmonton

My husband and I have always heard that GWAR's live show is unbelievable and that it was a "do not miss" type of event, so we decided to get tickets. At $40 each, we couldn't go wrong...right? Well. The three opening bands for GWAR were very good. We particularly liked Cancer Bats and Devil Driver.. But GWAR.. Well, their music and vocals were terrible. The blood spurting antics were funny the first few times, but soon got old. It would have been decent if paired with good music, but it wasn't. We left early (around 11:20pm) and were glad to be out of there. We can now say we've seen GWAR, but we definitely wouldn't go again.

    Gwar and Devil Driver

by Drastikreality on 2012-11-16Edmonton Event Centre - Edmonton

One of the best shows I've ever been to. Opening act was okay. Cancer Bats were great. Devil Driver sent us all to hell, GWAR met us their and took over. Edmonton event centre was pretty good. Needed more security for an all ages show.

    GWAR = AMAZING!!!!!!

by Anonymous on 2012-06-19London Concert Theatre - London

Gwar puts on the best show ever!! I've seen them twice now & can't wait to go again. Really hope they come back to Ontario soon, I will go and see the every time they are within driving distance. The audience was packed but we were front & center with only 1 row of people between us and Gwar so we had a great view!!!! They didn't disappoint with blood baths and gory stage killings galore. Energy remained high for the whole show and the audience loved every minute of it! The one thing I could say could have been improved was the vocals. I thought they were a bit too quiet - I would have liked "Oderus" to be louder. Of course it was sad not to see "Flattamus" this time but Gwar as a four-piece band still rocked my world!!!

It was awsome. the 5th time iv seen them and probably the best show so far. it was the first time i accualy watched them(sober) from the balcony, i had my son with me, it was his 8th birthday, he loved the show, a bit disapointed he couldnt get sprayed(the minors were on the balconey, so no blood). it was nice to c that they still put on a show after the passing of maximus, its what he would have wanted.

    GWAR. ETID. GHOUL!!!

by DonMegga on 2011-11-09Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

GWAR is an experience you cannot get anywhere else. Earth shattering and eardrum exploding metal mixed with an outrageous live performance...surreal. I left with as much fake blood on me as a Sam Raimi horror flick. Everytime I Die fulfilled 10+ years of listening to them, wanting to see them live. The greatest lovers were murderers first. GHOUL. Splatterthrash. Rise killbot rise! Badass!

GWAR at The Phoenix, October 25/11

by UberBaron on 2011-10-28The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

What can one say about rock's wildest stage show? Oderus Urungus was at his nasty best, while Flattus, Balsac, Beefcake and Jizmak brought the usual thunder and over-the-top, gross theatrics never disappoint. All that was missing was Sleazy P. Martini and a larger stage to handle the scale of the action. BRAVO!!! Ut respuant vobiscum!

I am still washing the fake blood out of my hair!! Awesome show, a must see if you have never been. I advise bringing a towel and spare clothes (including draws) for after and leaving them in your car.

by BURKE3123243f on 2011-10-27The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

great show as always...gwar is like no other band... i can only discribe them as metal theator because its metal but like watching a show... as a band they are 10 out of 10 but for the last show i would have to say they drop down a notch because of lack of BLOOD! they stepped the blood down a notch this year

Gwar was awesome, I dont go to many concerts but Im glad this was one of them and I will try to go again next year. The commodore is a good place to see them since you can sit up at the bar and not get sprayed with the thousands of liters of blood and still clearly see the show.

If you've never seen Gwar, and like metal. GO

by JudgeRomeo on 2010-12-01Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

I arrived just as "The Casualties" were starting their set. The band was great but the vocalist needs to be replaced. Too generic. The next band was pretty good, they had their own thing going which was pretty rad. Then Gwar came on and Rocked the show. This was the second time I've seen them and it was almost as good as the first. I was second row, middle stage and the view and experience was great but the sound was lacking that close to the stage, it was very distorted and impossible to make out the lyrics until I went back to the middle of the floor, where it was clear as day.' 4 stars for gwar, would have been 5 if the casualties were better.
