HAR MAR SUPERSTAR IN CONCERT:

When it comes to raunchy, lecherous, tongue-in-cheek pop spectacle, nobody holds a candle to R&B singer turned pop provocateur Har Mar Superstar. Known for taking the stage  in various degrees of undress and undulating suggestively to his seedy bedroom jams, Har Mar's live shows verge on performance art, blurring the boundaries between parody and sincerity. Whether he's ladykilling with "Girls Only" or serving vintage soul realness with "Lady, You Shot Me," Har Mar always has a blast, and so will fans lucky enough to catch him on his upcoming tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Minnesota, Sean Matthew Tillmann, a.k.a. Har Mar Superstar, played in various garage bands in high school before forming three-piece noise band Calvin Krime. After the group disbanded in 1998, he tried his hand at pop music as Sean Na Na before eventually embracing R&B and beginning to record and perform as Har Mar Superstar. His self-titled 2000 debut on Kill Rock Stars put him on the indie radar, but it was his scantily-clad, spectacle-filled live shows that ultimately earned him international attention. In 2004, he was named NME's Rock and Roll Man of the Year after his third album The Handler landed on the UK Albums chart. Since then, he has released two more albums of provocative pop and R&B, thrilling fans with his upbeat live shows on perennial tours.

  • Har Mar Wow's the Crowd!!!

by ProTool on 2009-11-04The Horseshoe Tavern - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Picture a mini-me version of Ron Jeremy, dressed in over-the-top disco garb, sounding like a cross between Prince and Jamiroquai. Now, surround him by three talented musicians all dressed in white jeans and white Ts who look like they just stepped out of a J Crew catalogue. Har Mar Superstar is one of the most underrated singer/performers I've ever seen. He engages the audience with relevant dialogue, humour, charisma and charm - all while simultaneously pulling off a 70's porn god persona. The music is uplifting, dance, disco, dirty funk. It drives people to the dance floor with solid beats and a phat grooving rhythm section. The vibe of the show far exceeded the small venue it was captured in. This guy is an entertainer who is fully capable of blowing away a crowd of thousands. See this guy at least once in your lifetime!
