  • Holly Cole is sweet

Magnificent show by a magnificent performer with magnificent musicians. Wish she could have played for three hours (with a washroom break of course). What sucks is that ticketmaster won't let you print hard copy tickets and makes you use those annoying electronic devices. I purposely avoid going to ticketmaster shows as a result. Holly was an exception.

  • only okay

Have seen her in concert before, this was my least favorite by far. She seemed like she was having jaw issues? Also, the outfit looked suitable for a 16 year old, bizarre!

  • Holly Cole was a little disappointing

I was excited about the prospect of seeing Holly Cole, in fact the evening was going to be even more special as we were celebrating my wife's birthday. The first few numbers were ok, albiet a little lackluster. We made it through the first set which was about 45 minutes, and then the band took a break. I wondered why they did this because no one was breaking a sweat on stage that's for sure, so I figured maybe Holly was going to do a constume change or something. But no, it was just a break, with no costume change so i'm guesssing it was just to make the show appear longer than it actually was. By the way, Ms. Coles dress looked like something left over from a Christmas concert. The second set started and it was just as lack lustre as the first set so we left after about 10 min. I should note that I am not into the habit of leaving shows, this is only the second show I've left since I started going to concerts back in the late 70's. The only other concert that I walked out on was the dreadful Blue Man Group concert about four years ago

  • Excellent vocalist, too jazzy for me

    by Splash2 on 2013-04-25Burton Cummings Theatre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

Enjoyed Holly's performance, and the four guys accompanying her were great, especially the sax. Some of the songs in her first set had too much scat, and didn't enjoy them that much. The second set was more to my liking with her rendition of You Only Live Twice and other smoother tunes. Had a drunk sitting behind us who was boorish and loud. He whistled in our ears and finally had to tell him to stop.

  • What's with the lisp?

by AdamT on 2013-04-25Burton Cummings Theatre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

Holly Cole's band is - as always - incredible. Her voice was mostly incredible... but there was something wrong with her enunciation. I don't know if it was drunkenness (probably not), nerve damage, inflammation/infection in her mouth, or what... but the crisp, clear wording was gone and in its place was a pronounced lisp. She did a fairly consistent job of managing it, but this wasn't the sharp enunciation I remember. "Tea for Two" is supposed to be a snappy, sharp-edged song and in this concert it was... blurry. Whatever the problem was, I hope it's temporary.

  • Holly Cole spellbinding performance

by HorseGal on 2013-04-25Burton Cummings Theatre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

From her growl, to her chuckle, all the way to her soprano-esque high notes, Holly Cole captivates, enthralls, and surprises her audience with fresh new ear candy. Holly brings her Maritime humor and light hearted spirit to a genre that can be cerebral and dark. Jazz means something new and different with Canadian Super Songstress Holly Cole. Cole needs no warm up act....she walks on and nails it, every time.

It was a perfect mix of songs from her new album and fan favourites such as Tennesee Waltz, Que Sera, and of course closing with I can see clearly now. The new songs are very good and I will be buying that album too. We cannot understand how she came to play in such a small run down theatre. But this seems like a last minute concert - there were no Canadian shows when I searched in March - and it was the very start of the tour. I noticed other Canadian Venues are a nicer to attend and would feel more like a night out. This tour is going to get better and better! We have been huge Holly Cole fans for since the begininning - 20 or so years ago. She will always be awesome to us!
