  • 80’s night

by TM on 2024-11-25FirstOntario Concert Hall - HamiltonRating: 4 out of 5

The night was fun and was great to hear all the songs of my teenage years! Cudos to the performers, as I don't think I would have the stamina! Honeymoon suite was good, there seemed to me a lot of guitar solos (instrumentals) and there were a few songs that I had hoped that they would play.

  • A treat of 4 bands and a night full of hits and memories

by Pontiki on 2024-11-25FirstOntario Concert Hall - HamiltonRating: 4 out of 5

This was a night full of nostalgia, 4 great bands who all sounded just as good as in the 80s. The Spoons played a hit filled set and a song from their newest album, which I loved. Men Without Hats were lots of fun, had loads of energy, and sounded amazing. I’d forgotten some of the songs, so it was a delightful surprise to hear them again. Flock of Seagulls brought their best too, I enjoyed them more than I thought I would. Honeymoon Suite sounded excellent and played a mix of known snd unfamiliar songs to me. My only issue was that Johnnie Dee kept leaving the stage and others kept playing solos, more than I’ve seen in other shows. This seemed to be filling time at one point, they could have played another 2 or 3 songs in the time taken away. Still a good show, and again, I liked the new song they played from their most recent album. The other highlight was all of us as an audience singing along to one of the piped in songs, “Don’t You Want Me” by the Human League, at the last intermission. Amazing!

The Eighties concert was amazing due to the performances by The Spoons and especially Men Without Hats!! A Flock of Seagulls were great !!

  • Outstanding Throwback Evening

by johnny B on 2024-11-25FirstOntario Concert Hall - HamiltonRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing event reliving memories of the 80's . I'm an old rocker however my wife and I enjoyed the evening as this was more down her memory path. Turned out to be a well thought Anniversary gift for her. Although Honeymoon Suite stole the show, their volume was a little too high for a smaller venue . Keep on ROCKIN!!

  • Music was great. Seats were from the 70s

    by Orm2525 on 2024-11-25FirstOntario Concert Hall - HamiltonRating: 4 out of 5

Sound was amazing, however, the seats need to be replaced. These were worse than movie theatre seats. Very old.

  • The 80's Club Rocked ...sort of

by JCoprasm on 2024-11-22Thunder Bay Community Auditorium - Thunder BayRating: 3 out of 5

The concert lineup featured a collection of 80s bands, kicking off with The Spoons. While their energy and enjoyment were evident, the sound quality was surprisingly poor—especially disappointing given the auditorium's reputation for exceptional acoustics. Next up was Men Without Hats, who absolutely rocked the house. They opened and closed their set with the crowd-favorite "Safety Dance,"and Ivan could move just like he did in the 80s. The sound was spot-on, and the audience was on their feet for most of the performance. Flock of Seagulls followed, delivering an enthusiastic set. While their sound was good and I found it entertaining, the audience's engagement waned—perhaps because their songs are less familiar to many. Finally, Honeymoon Suite closed the show. By this point, I resorted to earplugs as the sound was uncomfortably loud and unfortunately, the music itself didn’t land for me. Although their visual performance was strong, it wasn’t enough to make up for the experience overall. The concert's flow could have been significantly improved. Setting up two alternating stages, one in front of the other, might have reduced the excessive 25-minute intermissions between 30-minute sets. This inefficiency detracted from the overall enjoyment. In summary, Men Without Hats were the standout stars, earning a solid 5 stars for their fantastic, nostalgic performance, with Flock of Seagulls coming in second. However, the overall concert experience only merits a 3-star rating.

  • Awesome show!

Incredible show at a great venue. Spoons, Men Without Hats, Flock of Seagulls and Honeymoon Suite...doesn't get much better than that. They all performed wonderfully! Great blast from the past!

  • A blast to the past

It was a fun evening with 80s music. A reasonably priced event that ran approximately 4 hours.

  • Men and one woman, one with a hat

by CR on 2024-11-18River Cree Resort & Casino - EnochRating: 4 out of 5

Overall a fun night, although the bands started to drag on as the night progressed. Men Without Hats were easily the band of the night (especially once their sound issues were fixed and they replayed their main hit complete with vocals!)

  • Great show, miserable sound

by Denis on 2024-11-17River Cree Resort & Casino - EnochRating: 3 out of 5

All four bands did great, particularly Men Without Hats and Honeymoon Suite. However, the person in charge of the sound should be fired... throughout the whole show, the music kept overpowering the lyrics and the lead singers asking to get their mic increased. It was so bad, for the complete first song of Men Without Hats, the singer sang to himself, nothing came out to the audience and they had to redo it later in the show.

  • A fun experience...with a few issues

by Didigal on 2024-11-17River Cree Resort & Casino - EnochRating: 4 out of 5

First of all, we really loved the whole evening. It was a blast and the bands were all very entertaining. However... We arrived just after 8 pm for a concert that was supposed to start at 8...and by the time we were seated at 8:15 we were just in time to hear the last half of Nova Heart. Then they were gone. Best band of the night, I think, and we missed it. Men Without Hats were delightful, but Ivan's mic didn't work for his opening song. Thankfully he re-played Safety Dance at the end. His vocals were great and his energy was infectious...hard to believe he is 67! Loved the dancing. Flock of Seagulls were fun but also the least compelling. The band was awesome, but Mike Score was hard to hear at times and not very energetic. Fortunately the rest of the band kicked it up several notches, and at least we got to see a bit more from Gordon Deppe. Honeymoon Suite were very fun to watch and the musicians were outstanding. There seemed to be a few sound or equipment issues at first, but nothing too awful. But I think Johnnie Dee was a bit tipsy...maybe it was just me? Regardless he could still belt out a few favourite tunes, and the solo performances were outstanding. All in all we had a great trip down memory lane and enjoyed all four bands very much.

  • Great

by Jane on 2024-11-17River Cree Resort & Casino - EnochRating: 4 out of 5

Honeymoon Suite was great. Johnny Dee is still rockin it! I've seen them a couple of times and would go back again. Johnny said something about coming back in the summer. This comment has nothing to do with the band, but I'm not a fan of River Cree. The seats are too close to the front and side seats. We are jammed in there like cattle. The sound in River Cree is not great. 3 other bands played with Honeymoon Suite and Men Without Hat's 1st song was amiss. Litetally you could not hear him at all.

  • 80’s Club Show - River Cree

by Jayllo on 2024-11-17River Cree Resort & Casino - EnochRating: 3 out of 5

Sound quality was very poor. Flock of Seagulls band vocals somewhat distorted. Spoons were good. Men Without Hats…mic didn’t work for first song - might have been staged/ an act. Honeymoon Suite sound quality terrible. Vocals distorted…and not loud enough to go with the instruments. Very poor sound production.
