    A Sweet and Poignant Performance

by Rockinroll on 2015-06-09Vanier Hall - Prince George

I am an Ian Tyson fan from way back -- the Ian and Sylvia days. I've listened to him through the years, but never had the chance until now to see him in concert. It was an enchanting evening, until the very end. After his final beautiful rendition of "The Giftt," he said good night and abruptly left the stage leaving the audience and his two excellent accompanying musicians confused. He had promised to end the concert with one of my favorites, "Summer Wages", but this was not to be. He didn't re-appear despite enthusiastic calls for an encore. I was disappointed that we didn't get to hear "Summer Wages" or " Four Strong Winds." More than let down, though, I was concerned about the health of Mr. Tyson, and glad to hear that nothing serious had happened to him to prevent him from returning to the stage. Except for the final moments, this was an amazing evening with a true Canadian icon.

    Hayloft experience was enjoyable

by Palmtree55 on 2014-08-07Hayloft Acres - Sherwood Park

The weather was beautiful and the line up on Sunday was amazing. The only band that was not on par with the rest of the day was The Tragic Treasures. They kept saying they had only been performing a couple of weeks and you could tell. The music was fine however the vocals needed some more practice. The Heartachers, Rita McDade and the Fusion Blues Band, and the rest of the afternoon line up were amazing. We even purchase Rita's new CD. The evening performance was phenomenal. The tribute to Hank Williams Sr was great. The singer and the band provided a exceptional performance. I was surprised with Ian Tyson's performance. I was not expecting the great vocals at his age and he has a great sense of humor and engaged the audience.

Venue was well run. He was very good and I enjoyed it, even though I don't like country music.

Ian Tyson, the legend continues to entertain

by JakeFromVan on 2014-06-27Michael J Fox Theatre - Burnaby

I had fantastic seats in the theater, one I had not been in before. Excellent layout with a relatively steep rake providing excellent seating/views. The acoustics were excellent as well. This was a must see for me being a very long time Ian Tyson fan and he is getting on in years. His voice is back too (after surgery and voice coaching) so it was a real delight to hear that familiar crooner singing his old songs and some new ones. All in all a wonderful concert.

    Ian can still sing!!

by stillahippy on 2014-06-27Michael J Fox Theatre - Burnaby

It was a wonderful show, hard to believe he's of a certain age! A little slow crossing the stage but the singing and guitar playing were better than ever. I was a little hesitant to buy a ticket because I wasn't sure he could still put on a good show but so glad I did. Can't wait to see him again.

It was so wonderful to hear that great voice again singing and telling stories. Band was tight. He played for two whole hours and I could have listened all night. Good venue

    Ian is a Must-See

by MedHatMusicLover on 2014-03-11Deerfoot Inn & Casino - Calgary

I took my elderly father to see this performer, who has been his life-long favorite. We were not disappointed! Gave this 4 stars rather than 5 only because of the venue, which is in my opinion notorious for its rude front-line staff.

Ian Tyson is the real deal!

by Somedaysoon on 2014-03-11Deerfoot Inn & Casino - Calgary

I loved seeing Ian Tyson at the Deerfoot Casino. It's an intimate, comfortable venue. Ian Tyson carries everything he's ever done, all the people he's performed with and all the music he's created like a cape around his shoulders. This guy is the real deal! So glad he's got his voice back too!

    Ian Tyson is great

    by Mor4me on 2014-03-11Deerfoot Inn & Casino - Calgary

Ian Tyson still has a great voice and I am so happy I went to hear him. It seems like Ian was a bit thrown off by the fact that not many people knew his songs when he asked for audience participation. I do wish it was at a better venue as the seating is tight and uncomfortable at deerfoot casino. I doubt if I will return but I would defiantly go to see Mr. Tyson at the jack singer.

Ian A True Canadian Cowboy Singer

    Ian Tyson

by SallyMander on 2014-03-11Deerfoot Inn & Casino - Calgary

Ian was great, the venue was great, the seating was horrible... they even zip tie the seats together so you cannot break free. Anyone whose ass was over 12" was not on their own seat; I had a set of hips resting on me, awkward. Also I couldn't hear everything the drunk folk in the front said to Ian but they sure pissed him off!

    Ian Tyson was Grumpy

    by Bigal622 on 2014-03-11Deerfoot Inn & Casino - Calgary

Ian played all the old favourites, sound was good, band was tight, new guitarist was very slick, but boy Ian was grumpy. Couldn't get his guitar to say in tune and was extremely insulting to a couple of ladies down in front. They are all paying customers and nobobody deserves to be spoken to that way. Very disappointing behaviour I thought and put a bit of a damper on what was otherwise a great evening.

Ian Tyson is the rudest entertainer out there

by Anonymous on 2014-03-11Deerfoot Inn & Casino - Calgary

It was unbearably hot in there with the chairs so close together you could not breath. There was a large woman sitting next to me and I didnt even have half a chair. For Ian Tyson I have never seen such a rude entertainer and the way he spoke to one fan telling her to shutup and sit down, then going on to say he felt sorry for any son of a bitch that married her. He would get them special seats in the parking lot next time. He was constantly tunning his guitar. I would not recommend this artist or venue.

    Amazing Storyteller!

by McLady on 2014-02-09Arden Theatre - St Albert

From the moment Ian walked (hobbled) on stage I was mesmerized. His voice is back, his guitar playing is incredible but it was his storytelling that had me. I have seen him many times and he's always been great but this time he spent more time telling stories. I want to go to a Cowboy Poet gathering and be a fly on the wall. it was the first time I've heard him play Four Strong Winds as part of his set-not an encore.
