Ian Tyson brings tears to your eyes as he tells the stories behind his songs. Even with his "new voice" he will make any aged fan's heart melt.

    Ian Tyson can still perform

by ELE777 on 2010-09-21Kelowna Community Theatre - Kelowna

Despite having heard negative comments about his voice prior to the show, we found Ian and his two capable backup men to be still very capable of putting on an excellent show. Great mix of his old hits mixed in with new material we hadn't heard before. Well worth the price of admission !!!!!!

    Tyson Story Teller

by Zimmy on 2010-09-21Kelowna Community Theatre - Kelowna

Seeing Ian Tyson for the first time, and not really familiar with a lot of his songs, was an experience that won't be soon forgotten. His two peice band was incredible. We sat there and listened to one of, if not the best song writers that Canada has to offer. It was like reading a good book, you couldn't wait to turn the page, or in this case hear the next song. We were totally blown away.

    Ian Tyson storyteller

by Sparkplug57 on 2010-09-21Kelowna Community Theatre - Kelowna

It was an awesome concert Sunday night. Last time we saw Ian he was trying new music and styles and it just didn't work for me. This time he was back to the cowboy storyteller of old. With just the 3 guitars and amazing harmony it was the best concert we have attended in a long time. After 2.5 hours(with 15 min break)nobody left feeling they had not seen a great show. Highly recommend seeing the Ian of old!

    Ian Tyson

He was wonderful.. loved his voice and all the songs he sang.. I liked how he told you a tale of each song before he sang it. Some of the songs he sang brought tears to my eyes and some of the tales made me laugh hard.. It was a great night.

Ian Tyson - King of Western/Cowboy songs!!!!!!!!!!

by Cowgirl43 on 2010-02-06Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

What a treat and honour to be able to experience Ian Tyson's songs at a live venue. He is an artist that paints scenes with his words and you can feel the wind, dust, blue skies, cowboys and horses for example. He is a Cowboy and the West lives on with his music.

Tyson delivers a knock out show!

by cdn3034 on 2010-02-06Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

It took a couple of tunes to adjust to his new voice, but once that settled it he was unstoppable. Performance was great - band was tight but spontaneous, Ian played most of my favorites including Summer Wages & 4 Strong winds - Magpie, the last tune was the absolute best of the night. 5 stars

    another wonderful evening with Ian

by kdwasthere on 2010-02-06Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

My wife and I have enjoyed Ian's concerts many times and always look forward to the next one. Last night he introduced some new songs - and a few twists on older songs that were quite delightful. Although Ian has suffered some voice problems, he gave an entirely honest and entertaining show - the story telling hasn't changed one bit. We enjoyed it immensley.

    Very sad

by alloy on 2010-02-06Red Robinson Show Theatre - Coquitlam

When Ian came on stage and started to talk we thought it must have been a joke, but unfortunately it wasn't. We haven't been following his career closely over the last few years and we weren't warned that he had suffered permanent damage to his voice (and neither was the box office staff). I have enjoyed Ian on album for years and we drove in from Kamloops to see him. There where only the briefest moments when you could hear the suggestion of Ian in what he called his 'new voice'. To be fair, there were obviously many in the audience who were not surprised and seemed well satisfied, but we were not among them. It's time for him to gracefully retire (The box office was very good about refunding our money when we left after about 6 songs).

We enjoyed the show but it's his time to gracefully retire. We can relive his grandeur in his cds. We always listen to his music when we are camping and we really love it.

When he came on stage and I heard hime speak I thought I had made a mistake, but dispite having lost his beautiful voice, Ian and his friends put on an absolutely memorable peformance.

Although I've always been a fan, listening to Ian Tyson's new voice was frustrating and painful. The guitar melodies were fabulous. I like and respect the man, but still,as far as concerts go, I wouldn't go see him again, nor would I recommend him.

At age 75, Ian Tyson still has that magical touch as a story teller. While his voice has lost its timbre, his legacy will always live on in his music and lyrics. He still has the ability to make you feel the emotions that went into creating his unique stories. He brings a uniquely Canadian perspective to stories about the West and its people, old and new. While he may not sing like he used to, his music and his stories have lost none of its magic in the telling.

The show was great. The venue was great. First time there and I liked the size of it. Perfect for this kind of show. The attendants were very helpful. Ian did a great job performing his songs.

    Legacy!

by Campbell on 2010-01-12Horizon Stage - Spruce Grove

Ian is 77 this year .... he sings songs that bestow the history and legacy of Alberta, of the cowboy, and of a way of life that brings all these together with nature and heart. I hope I will be able to hear him again .... he is amazing! I was raised up not too far from Longview, Alberta, and I can relate to the weather and the wonder of life in place that can be both bitter and beautiful in ways only known to those who have experienced it. I love his music and to be able to experience it in the Horizon Theatre is a real treat as it is intimate and personal - the way his music is meant to be heard. Lovely afternoon!!!

Another excellent show. His voice change a couple of years ago was unfortunate. Still good but it is different. The second last song he sang (not sure of name) and on his latest album I believe was sad. His singing years are numbered and I think that is what he was addressing in this song. A stark reminder that all good things must come to an end someday. A remarkable career.
