Amazing show, pity about the venue
by Bob on 2024-05-01Coca-Cola Coliseum - TorontoFirst of all: Jacob and his entire cast of musical magicians are incredible. The musicality and energy they put into their show is nothing short of fabulous. However I’m bummed the show was held at the Coca Cola Coliseum. We had seats at the far end of the venue and felt rather detached from the performance-in hindsight I should’ve bought GA standing tickets as being up closer to the action would probably have been a way different and better experience. Being where we were had several downsides: the sound, particularly on the quieter and simpler songs (eg only a piano and one voice rather than the whole band playing), seemed so off as go be painfully loud whenever a singer’s volume went up; we were close to an entry/exit point and the toilets, so during the quieter songs, our ambience was rather ruined by the almost constant noise of the hand dryer going off and piercing the air! I previously saw Jacob in 2022 when he performed at History, a venue custom-built for musical performances and so much better-I’m sure doing it in a larger arena enabled more tickets to be sold, but from our perspective, it felt rather empty which is never a great feeling. He also performed previously at Massey Hall-again, an amazingly intimate venue that I think suits Jacob’s show so much better.
