James Blunt (aka James Hillier Blount) lived all over Europe as a child with a father in the British Army Air Corps, taking piano and violin sessions and later learning guitar and writing songs as a teenager. After graduating from the University of Bristol, Blunt served six years in the British Army and was stationed in Canada, Kosovo and Switzerland, achieving the rank of captain before he left the army in 2002. The next year, he signed to Custard Records and starting recording his first album in Los Angeles. Back to Bedlam came out in 2004, with five singles including “High,” “Wiseman,” and the smashes “You’re Beautiful” and “Goodbye My Lover,” and received five Grammy nominations. With his endearing voice, poignant and sincere lyrics, and catchy pop-rock sound, Blunt’s debut has sold over 11 million copies. His second album, 2007’s All the Lost Souls, produced the hit “1973,” and 2010’s Some Kind of Trouble featured “Stay the Night,” “So Far Gone,” and “If Time Is All I Have.” The folky lead single “Bonfire Heart” premiered in October 2013, a few weeks ahead of the release of his fourth and latest album, Moon Landing. With a world concert tour planned for 2014, this charming crooner is set to dazzle ticket holders across the globe.
As usual James Blunt was amazing!!!!Unforgettable eneregy!!!!!
For being the final stop on his North America tour, this guy rocked, swooned and just plain embraced the quiet Vancouver audience. James (and his band) did everything he could do to get us off our butts and party and gave us his everything. I wish we could have given HIM more in return and hope for yet another opportunity to show him we love him!
Amazing show. Has a fabulous selection of songs, and his hauntingly great voice make for a wonderful performance.
Loved it! James was so personable. He sang all the right songs! Just had an incredible evening!
Please come back again soon! Love your new music but partial to old songs.
Content of the event was great...did all the familiars..most of the content was old stuff. For me the issue was that the venue did not suite the tone of the event. As Blunt himself said he wanted to be a "rock" star not a "pop" star. The venue was the Ford Center..small, nice seats, bar/beverage area, nice washrooms etc. In this venue patrons usually sit and partake of a concert/event with some degree of decorum. Blunt quickly incited/invited patrons to stand and yell..and that is what they did. It would have been better suited for an area. So for most of the evening you had to stand if you wanted to see anything. However standing did nothing to block out the distraction of people yelling and screaming making it difficult to enjoy the performance. He also invited patrons to take off their clothes..which many women chose to do. It did not distrupt the performance but set a tone that I did not enjoy. I like his music. I did not like how he presented and conducted his concert. Next time I will go to David Gray and give James Blunt live a miss:( Too bad as I really like his music.
I love James Blunt! He is an incredible performer and I would definitely go and see him anytime he comes to Vancouver.
Most of the crowd was obviously there to hear "You're Beautiful". When this happens, when the audience is full of fevered anticipation and reacts with mass disappointment each time a new song starts, it tends to suck some of the energy off the stage. This reaction, though certainly present, didn't totally overwhelm the vibe. Mr. Blunt has a few albums out now and was able to mine them for gem-quality material that he tossed into the crowd like a mystic at a carnival. The lack of special effects was quite appropriate. There was no time lost to costume changes. The sound was crystal clear. The meanings hidden in his songs were less clear. That's the way we like it. You're Beautiful.
James was amazing as was his opening act. I danced my ass off and sang along to every song - as did the rest of the audience. Thanks James!!! I'll be coming to see you every time you come to Vancouver!
Sadly the promotion team for James Blunt let him and his fans down with very little marketing of his recent show on May 12th at The Centre in Vancouver. Consequently, the theatre wasn't full and those that didn't attend missed a great high energy show. Blunt ran through many catchy new tunes and all the hits from previous albums. James always puts on unforgettable concerts and this was no different. Being in a smaller venue this time provided a more intimate experience. Can't wait to see him again!!!
Awesome concert! Played all his hits! We even got to meet him afterwards!
James Blunt puts on an amazing concert. There are not many artists out there that you can say you like every song on their CD but James is that kind of artist.
this was a choice of my girl friend but it wasn't bad, opening act Hanna Georgas was great a nice if quirky voice and style. Sound was great for both acts. I only knew one song , Blunt has a decent stage presence and a good voice., He reminded me of Chris De Burgh and a few Chris De Burgh covers would fit his set perfectly. was a little short at just 90 minutes but the crowd seemed happy.
He puts me in a trance. When I heard he was coming to the Royal, I purchased one ticket for myself. I was in the ninth row. Great view! He was shocked at the small theatre but I knew it was going to be a close up and personal show. He and his band sounded just like his CDs. He has a great sense of humor. The couple beside me were military and had that in common with James. I would of loved to meet him and have a picture taken. It was definitely an older crowd and there were a lot more men than I thought there would be.
First time seeing James Blunt in person and loved the show - He played a mix from all of his compositions and had folks dancing and singing. We were glad to be a part of his last show in North America......
I have been a fan of James since day one, and it was simply amazing to get to see him with friends at such a wonderful venue. He is such an awesome live artist. All of us agreed that we loved hearing him live. He sings with such emotion. Wonderful concert.
I had the pleasure of seeing James in 08 here in Vancouver so I knew he would be spectacular, and he did not disappoint! The opening act was awesome too, I highly recommend seeing both James Blunt and Hannah Georgas if you can!
Great show. James was relaxed and was enjoying himself as much as the audience was enjoying the show. It was obvious he was having fun performing, and the smaller venue meant that fun easily ensured everyone watching was instantly engaged. He played all his hits, and his newest music. No one was disappointed. We weren't...
Sound @ this theatre is fantastic but pay for good seats in order to get a good vantage point. The mezzanine is way too small! Great talent & great sound. too short :(
Loved seeing James in a smaller setting like The Center. Last time he was here, the concert was at GM Place and it was large and somewhat impersonal. In a smaller setting, he was much more engaged with the audience and you felt like you were getting to know him. He sang a good mix from all 3 albums and I would definately see him again.
