About

JAMES VINCENT MCMORROW IN CONCERT:

Genre-bending Irish musician James Vincent McMorrow is a master of stirring up emotion, combining haunting vocals and beautifully sparse arrangements to stunning effect on his swelling compositions. While his 2010 debut fit relatively comfortably in the realm of indie folk, 2014's Post Tropical is another story, combining elements of R&B, hip hop, and electronica on subtly layered productions that evade genre categorization. And then there's that voice — a falsetto that's certainly broken a few hearts, as flooring in live concert as it is on record. Already a revered live performer in Europe, Morrow has North American audiences eagerly awaiting his 2014 tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Ireland's James Vincent McMorrow picked up the guitar at 19, developing an idiosyncratic singing and songwriting style that he claims owes much to female artists of the '70s due to the lofty pitch of his voice. After cutting his teeth performing in local pubs, McMorrow isolated himself in a coastal cabin to record his debut, 2010's Early in the Morning. The album was a hit, garnering positive reviews, a No. 1 chart position, and platinum certification from the RIAA. In 2011, McMorrow's cover of Steve Winwood's '80s gem "Higher Love" brought him even more attention, getting picked up for a popular British ad campaign. With the 2014 release of sophomore album Post Tropical, McMorrow unveiled a new stylistic direction, once again climbing the charts and embarking on an international tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"JVM is a legend in the making. The music blankets his melancholy lyrical genius. It is truly timeless. If you haven't seen him, do it now while he is emerging ... or regret it later."

"He and the group were so ON. They were even better in person that we could have imagined. James' voice is superb and the band was so in sync."

"I've never posted a review before, but James Vincent McMorrow deserves far more praise than the world has given him thus far. In a word: INCREDIBLE. What an absolutely mind-blowing voice he has."

Fantastic show! Incredible voice. Just him and a guitar, but he didn't need a back up band.

    Best. Concert. Ever.

by sophino on 2011-09-26La Salsa Rossa - Montreal

I just love it when an artist or a band sounds even better in concert. And since I had been listening to "Early in the Morning'' all summer long, I was really excited to see JVM live in concert. And, of course, he was amazing! I've been to many concerts in my life, big and small, but this was by far the best performance I have ever seen! JVM's voice is astounding. The other musicians in the band were also very good. The sound was crispt and clean, which seems to be a rare occurrence at concerts these days (I personally hate it when the sound is too loud or aggressive, but it wasn't the case here) . The small venue made for a very attentive and respectful crowd. It was amazing when everyone sat down and listenned carefully to the first act. JVM was very talkative and relaxed throughout the entire thing too because of it. I highly recommend him to anyone who likes folk music. What a perfect night!

I had high expectations for the show which were greatly exceeded by JVM's vocal range and the amount of energy and personality he infused into his act. I could not have hoped for a better show and can't wait for him to come back to the area.

Arguably the BEST male voice of our generation

by lilapples on 2011-09-16El Mocambo - Toronto

Such an incredible show. James was in a super great mood and it showed throughout the concert. Full band backing him, you could see his comfort in front of the sold out crowd at the El Mocambo. Mr McMorrow has the voice of a pro, and grabs hold of the audiences attention with a single note and his incomparable lyrics. If you ever have the chance to see him live, DO IT! You will NOT be disappointed!

james vincent mcmorrow was amazing!! the first opener was great, but the girl that was before james was not enticing, EVERY single song sounded the same unfortunately.....however when james was singing, you could hear a pin drop....i couldn't believe the respect, and when the songs finished the uproar was incredible! my sister and i met him afterward and he signed our cd's........he is very personable. i would see this concert again in a heartbeat!!!
