Stand-up comedy legend, controversy queen, and incomparable class act Joan Rivers has spent more than half a century lampooning pop culture's biggest names. Whether she's taking aim at the latest red carpet fashion disaster or poking fun at her own adventures in plastic surgery, Rivers never pulls a punch, taking her jokes right up to the edge of taste — and then taking them a bit further. Fans know and love her for her blatant disinterest in all things politically correct, and they'll get another hilarious dose of her edgy humor on her upcoming tour dates.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born in Brooklyn in 1933, Joan Rivers earned a degree in English literature and anthropology before finding her way to the stage in the late '50s. Cutting her teeth in small Greenwich Village comedy clubs and local theater productions, Rivers biting wit and fearless attitude soon landed her recurring roles on various talk shows, including The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Carson made her is regular guest host in 1983, a catalytic moment in her rise to fame and a precursor to the 1986 debut of her own show The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers. Over the years, Rivers has built one of the most multi-faceted careers in entertainment, enjoying success as a stand-up comedian, an author, a talk show host, a fashion correspondent, and numerous other endeavors. Back on the road, Rivers will treat fans to her signature off-color comedy on a string of highly anticipated tour dates.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"She is like a fine wine - gets better with age. My whole body hurts two days later from laughing so hard. I love that she is constantly updating her jokes to reflect current times, but she keeps some of the priceless classics."
"Just make sure you've emptied your bladder! Joan Rivers will definitely make you wet your pants! Non-stop jokes from start to finish! I was amazed at her energy, quick wit, and never-miss-a-beat delivery!"
"Inappropriately hilarious to be exact, but what else would you expect from Joan? She was so quick with her delivery and current in her material, this lady knows how to make people laugh."
As controversial, brash and brilliantly funny as I expected. Where does she get all her energy from?
We had the best time! She was full of energy and so funny, the energy from the crowd was amazing. Everyone was laughing and I was only disappointed when the show was over!
Joan never lets up, she's "full on" from start to finish!
You got to Love That 80yrs old wild rudest craziest Grandma!!! She's the Greatest, Uber entertaining, we laughed so hard, I don't think we can feel our Jaws! If you're offended by anything Politically Incorrect then take a double Ex-Lax & stay Home!
I had not seen her live since London in 1991! She just gets better and better!
Joan's energy is endless. She never stopped moving on stage and she was wearing some rockin' heels. Joan's physical stature is very small, but she owned the room. The show was hilarious and the time flew by. Loved her.
It was so refreshing to be able to suspend all of our political correctness for just one night. No one is safe from Joan's excellent humor! Loved it, both of us!
Great show, only a little duplication from her last visit.
I had been looking forward to seeing Joan Rivers live for a very long time. My chance to see her in a comfortable theatre finally arrived. River Rock Theatre in Richmond BC booked her in May this year, and I luckily got a ticket for myself in a great seat location to watch the woman that I've admired for years. She's so damn funny , I continuously laughed the entire show, and she was everything I had ever hoped for. A perfect entertaining evening, and I'd go again at a drop. Thanks Joan for making my evening, and thanks River Rock Theatre for being there. One other thing, the gentleman who opened for her was awesome, bring him back again!
THEN........30 years ago....... I saw Joan Rivers 30 years ago at the Jubliee, the last row of the second balcony, basically the last tickets!! Back then "she" had a mouth on her the sickest sense of humor ever.....I fell in love with her and have admired her ever since! She is someone that has always said what everybody "really " thought! I have followed her career ever since. The ups the downs. She has had a tuff life and yet an incredible life, but has showed and taught us all how A sense of humor gives you what you need to keep going on! NOW.......30 years later, I can't beleive she is still alive and what a show. I was so scared that I was going to be asked to leave because of my laughter. The person I was with was embarassed to be sitting with me but I didn't care, I was there for Joan and only Joan. Funny , crude and rude! I loved every minute of the show. Honest, to the point but what a delivery! The Best. I wish she was my mother! I think of myself as the male version of her! It broke my heart when I looked back to see it she was sold out..........not even the whole main floor was sold, 3 people in the first balcony and none in the third? What the ~! She's a legend! It was a shame not to see a younger generation there, they just don't know what they missed, a piece of comic history! Joan Rivers "A piece of Work", made me laughed maded me cry! You are an amazing human being Joan Rivers and I hope that I can see you a few more times before you die! Next time, I'll dish out the $250 to sit in the front row. Cheers and love you Joan!
She had such energy and enthusiasm for what she was doing! She talked for the full 1hr.& 15 min. without stopping for a break or drink of water. She sat on the floor & got up by herself wearing 4" heels! Kept the audience howling constantly. Topics were risque, but her method of presentation made them quite inoffensive. We enjoyed the show thoroughly!
I absolutely loved Joan Rivers. I knew Joan would be good and crude, but I was surprised at just how spectacular she was. I was also amazed at how great she looked for 78 years old. She has the shape and energy level of a woman in her twenties. I will definitely recommend her show to everyone I know and would love to see her again, the next time she performs in Edmonton. She is a comedy pro. I have never seen a better.
Joan is XXXtraordinary ! She is so real, even though so much of her face is not. It was the perfect evening to escape from the pressures and stresses of life & laugh beyond out loud!
Awesome show! Joan was freaking hilarious! Please have her back to perform again before she croaks!
Unless you know going in, Joan Rivers is not your average 78-year-old! If I have half the energy she has at her age, I'll be doing remarkably well. And funny, O-M-G she is hilarious, unpolitically correct, yet not mean. She tells it like it is and makes no apologies for it. GO AND SEE HER WHEREVER ON THE PLANET SHE IS PERFORMING. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. Perhaps, a little offended, but not disappointed!
I just got back from Vegas 2 days before this event, I can honestly say I enjoyed the female impersonator at the Imperial Hotel much more! Dollar for Dollar the fake Joan was far more enjoyable.
Joan can get away with this sort of crude humour because she is such a lovely (old) lady, and a talented professional, great timing, she read the audience perfectly!
Joan was very polished performer. She was very enjoyable from beginning to end. You could really tell she enjoys performing and telling jokes. She interacted with the audience and seemed like she was at ease up there on the stage. I would go see her show again in a heartbeat!! Love Love Loved it.
Joan Rivers was worth everything penny! Her combination of shock humor and biting wit was the perfect cure to a cold Tuesday night. I am so happy I got to see the legend in the flesh. I will be talking about this night for years.
I thought she was funny but that overly funny sometimes as you couldn't understand her when she talked with her raspy voice. Her jokes could be harsh....but she was funny to watch. I did NOT like where we sat....on the map it looked good when I booked however when we got there there weren't good at all. Having heads in front of you wasn't great to have to over-look.
