My wife and I didn't know what to expect after so many years but this concert was a night to celebrate and enjoy. He sang the songs that we have always identified with him and brought us back to the "summer of love". You could easily see that the audience was really enjoying the experience. His band is extremely talented and the contribution of his saxophonist and supporting vocalists were especially notable.
Wanted to see him for 20 years and finally made it. He didn't disappoint! Great concert!! Come back soon Joe!
He played at Woodstock, 40 years ago, and was awesome.. and he played at Hamilton Place, and still rocked. What a great nite!!!
One of the most memorable voices from Woodstock which celebrates it's 40th anniversary this summer performed a killer show at Hamilton Place last night. His name is Joe Cocker. Though he just turned 65 he showed us last night that his voice still remains as strong as his birthplace Sheffield England. Clad in black he graced the stage with the hits of his illustrious career and was accompanied by an eight piece band that was amazing and captured the very essence of his soulful voice. Everyone rose to their feet the minute he took the stage and standing ovations were the order of the night as he launched into his 90 minute non-stop set of hits and it was all about the music. Joe just paused briefly enough to acknowledge the band and to say hello to his adoring fans in Hamilton and began to sing Hitchcock Railway. This was followed by Feelin' Alright and The Letter. Joe's voice has not altered and he wowed us on a journed through his ballads Up where we belong accompanied by his back up singer Nichelle Tillman taking over the Jennifer Warnes vocal. We appreciated this ballad along with soulful versions of You can leave your hat on and Unchain my heart and the classic You are so beautiful accompanied only Mike Finnigan on the Hammond organ pianist Nick Milo and bassist Oneiedo James-Rebecca. Just loved the delivery of this song and the best feature is when Joe's voice breaks with emotion at the conclusion. The feature song of the night without any doubt was the Lennon-McCartney masterpiece With a little help from my friends to which the crowd exploded with sheer joy at Joe's trademark raspy scream which eminates from his toes! He also did wondrous covers of She came in through the bathroom window and Come Together which was featured in the flick Across the Universe. Joe has a way with covering Beatle classics that cannot be beat. He is a master with these songs. The set list included the following Htichcock Railway Feelin' Alright The Letter When the night comes Shelter Me You are so beautiful Come Together You can leave your hat on Unchain my heart With a little help from my friends Encores Delta Lady She Came in through the bathroom window Cry me a river Finally closing with John Fogerty's Long as I can see the light. Hamilton Place was a perfect venue for the song stylings of Joe Cocker. A class act with an amazing band and a night full of memories. Thank you Joe for your music and a night full of hits. You are one of a kind.
Couldn't help notice the fan base from the age of aquarius at last nights show. Yes we're all getting up there, but still rockin along the way. Great intimate venue with fabulous acoustics. Joe still puts out an incredible vocal effort and I'm sure everyone heard the one song that they came to hear.
Being 60 years old myself I had no illusions of how physically challenged Joe would be on stage, I did get "a little bump" in my chest every time he jumped up in the air at the end of a song, (snap). His voice was a lilttle rough as it should be but still...a little weaker than I would have hoped for. His back up band was good, especially the paino player and the base player......I enjoyed the show and it brought me back to my younger days when you can "live forever" Thank you Joe Cocker for that!
Hubby and I went to see Joe last night and had such a wonderful time... Hamilton Place is a great venue for a concert like this. Hubby absolutely loved Joe ... he said it was the best concert he has been to. The entire crowd was clapping singing along or dancing in their seats. Incredible !!!
Joe was amazing. His voice is still strong and that famous Cocker "scream" lives on. He even hit the note at the end of You Are So Beautiful, albeit quietly. Joe did 2 encores and the audience wanted more. Great memories.
Awesome concert! Had the crowd on its feet. The man rocks!
Joe's the man. Puts his heart and soul into every performance.
Joe's band was great but he really struggled with his vocals all night long. I don't know if that is his sound now or if he had a bad night. Hopefully it's the latter because he's written and performed some great songs.
65 years old? No deterioration in his voice at all!! Sounds the same as on my Woodstock recording. When he did the scream, my eyes welled up! Loved the gospel tunes.
I was never a big Joe Cocker fan. I saw him open for someone else last year and was amazed at the number of songs he had that I had forgotten about. I couldn't wait to see him at Hamilton Place. He kept the audience tapping and reminiscing with his music for an hour and a half. He played two Beatles songs and really did them justice as only someone from that era could. An excellent night of reliving my youth..!!
Even after all these years....Joe Cocker still ROCKS! His show was absolutely awesome!! Loved it!
Joe 's voice is still awesome , I say hime in Florida 36 years ago so happy he came to Hamilton
