An interesting look at John Cleese's life. Sort of a small caption of his autobiography humourously told, with a few highlights from his TV shows, movie and other performances. Quite entertaining. As we were unsure what the show would entail we thought it was well worth the price of admission.
John Cleese did an excellent job of reminding us all of how funny and cutting edge he and monty python was. He could have had a 4 hour show and still missed some of the best material written. The photos/videos that went along with the stories were an added bonus. No one left the theatre unsatisfied.
He is a superb man. Educated, funny, clever, and most of all enjoyable. He was so easy to watch and had so many interesting things to say. I laughed through the whole thing. My one complaint is that is second half was not very long and I wish he would have spoken a little more. Other than that, I am so glad I had the privilege of seeing this man in person.
Seeing John Cleese while still alive was absolutely fantastic. Going into the performance, I didn't really know what to expect, but I was just thrilled to be able to share a room with him for an evening. Hearing him speak about his life, family, rise to fame and all of the amazing luck that skyrocketed his career was amazing. Over the years growing up, I only knew him as a brilliant and hilarious performer whose random and silly sketches are still quotable to this day. Now, I have a far more complete picture of this (soon to be not) living legend. I would recommend seeing John Cleese to anybody who appreciates Monty Python. He was and is (and might go back to "was" again shortly) AMAZING. Well done, Mr. Cleese! It was a pleasure!
We both enjoyed the entire show, and laughed our sides sore. John Cleese has the most amazing ability to entertain people of all ages. What a great way to end a stressful work week. I hope this is not really our last chance to see him before he dies!
it was brilliant, sad, funny, a celebration and a wonderfully warm intimate evening of getting to know the man behind the madness.
I didn't expect the show to go over his life but it was a nice surprise. He went through his life and career and provided insightful commentaries on his colleagues and his experiences.
As expected John Cleese did not dissapoint. He presented a good retrospective of his performing life and his writing life. The insights to Monty Python and Fawlty Towers were great.
Still one of the best. What a great walk through time. My Friend and I could not stop laughing.
John Cleese was funny, entertaining and informative, so glad we went to see him, learned some things that we didn't know about like his relationship with David Frost and how Monty Python was born, very good show.
It was at the U of A. Cleese hurried through his lecture put on a TelePrompTer. It really was a lecture. It brought me back to the time I was in university with lectures, not Monty Python! I wasn't expecting skits or anything but it was poor anyway. Eric idle's show from a few years ago was much better.
Monty Python. A Fish Called Wanda. If you grew up watching John Cleese, this is a delightful and funny way to reminince. Mr Cleese talks about growing up and how he got himself established as one of the greatest ( and brightest) Comedian/script writer in our lifetime. His stories keep you interested. His tongue-in-cheek mannerism makes you smile. The way he makes a hilarious joke and keeps a straight face all the while shows how he rose to the top during his Monty Python days. It is a fun ride through the career of John Cleese, told by John Cleese. The best kind of autobiography you could witness.
Fans who come to this event are looking forward to seeing Basil Fawlty, or Archie Leach, or any number of characters from Monty Python. Maybe even Q or Nearly Headless Nick. Instead, we get to see a faded shadow of John Cleese, who tells everybody about his life and how he got where he is today. it's interesting, but given that we love him for being incredibly funny, it's less enjoyable to see him being ordinary and unfunny. The other thing that really takes away from the experience is the realization that he's reading from a teleprompter screen that's mounted between the orchestra and the mezzanine. Sure, it's nice to hear John Cleese deliver the lines, but I can get that from the downloaded voice package for my GPS. I brought my wife to this show because she'd never seen John Cleese's work and I wanted her to see how great he was. Instead, it was all things dull and ugly. Even the clips of his past work, the show's only saving grace, were always cut off partway, before the payoff or punchlines that make those segments worth seeing. Unless you just want to see him in person once before he dies or retires completely, I would just download or rent his movies. Don't disturb the pristine image you have of him, and don't waste $100 per ticket like I did.
Interesting and light-hearted look at Cleese's life, in and out of show business, by the person who should know it best...........John Cleese. It made for a very special evening. If you are a fan of Monty Python or Fawlty Towers catch his show.
Up close and personal, left with a sense of the man behind the Celebrity. An insiteful, honest, funny and nostalgic look at a life full of wonderful memories [minus his "Mum" and the last ex-wife]. A window into relationships with friends, colleagues and fellow humourists with a touching tribute to Davis Frost, recently lost to this world. Exerpts from video and pictorial footage, recounted stories and more, brought back some good times and some hearty laughs. Glad we could catch the show to celebrate my husbands Birthday
It was bad. All he really did was show stuff on the screen ..no stand up at all. Terrible for 85.00 i think we should get more. too bad
An unforgettable show! I took my father to see the show as he was the one that introduced me to the brilliance of John Cleese - we were both in awe throughout the entire show. For any Monty Python or Fawlty Towers fan - this is a must! Amazing stories about how he came to be the John Cleese that we know and love. The show was 2.5 hrs long with a 20min intermission, so definitely worth the money. Old clips and photos included. A show and experience I will never forget!
Some great behind the story tales and nice to hear story of his life but was expecting comedy scetches and it was a monolog of his life with different small film clips.
only complaint...it was too short. i could have sat there all weekend and listened to him :) tremendous storyteller and hopefully he'll have another tour before he dies!
