    Great Show!

by Ferryland on 2009-11-15The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

It was a great show and pleased to see a guy for being 76 playing for so long and giving a chance for the younger guys to shine! He was really personable and even signed autographs right after the show. Not many well known musicians come out from behind the stage scene to do this. Great time! Thanks John for the photo too! You will look great on the wall of fame here at Ron's!

all young bands should see acts like this (and rolling stones); they played total of 2 hours and 40 min and were getting better as show went on; absolutely excellent (despite John's mistake on guitar)

    John Mayall was brilliant.

by StandupSilly on 2009-11-12The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

This is possibly the best concert I have ever seen; I have been going to a variety of concerts/shows on and off since the late 1970's, so that is saying something. I have only recently 'discovered' Blues as I did not realize artists I already enjoyed played The Blues; e.g. Eric Clapton. Now I can't get enough of listening to it. To be able to witness this legend and his fantastic band will be a cherished memory. It is only my second time going to The Centre. It is a beautiful theatre and fortunately I was able to purchase excellent seats. Thank you.

    Johnny Rocked!

by qwert on 2009-11-12The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

I first saw John Mayall in concert in the 60s, he was a great entertainer then, and although time may have aged his fans (never seen so many white pony-tails!), he was as fabulous as I have ever seen him!! Each song was better than the one before, he never seemed to tire, and even if he needed a little help with the words, he was incredible!!! No-one plays harmonica like he does! He and every member of his band seemed to truly enjoy the evening, and us fans were delighted!! On the way out I felt like we should've stopped at the box-office to give them more money!

    John Mayall was inspirational

by Blaker on 2009-11-12The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

76 years old and doing two and a half hour show with a minimal intermission was an inspiration to this 63 year old bass player. I've been a fan since the first bluesbreakers album and he didn't disappoint in either his performance or the tunes he presented.

A Legend Walks Among Us in Humilty

by ReverendJazz on 2009-11-12The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

The legendary John Mayall comes on stage alone wearing blues jeans and an untucked blue denim shirt and matter-of-factly let's us know we are in for an evening of the blues, which is what we came for.... then begins with a Sonny Boy Williams song with him alone on harmonica and voice, towards the end of the song ambles over to the keyboard and accompanies himself with his right hand on piano. Then a smoking hot band joins him and they're into the classic "All Your Love." The first set lasted about an hour alternating old songs with material from his new album "Tough" (some of which he needed a crib sheet for the words, but that was OK). A similar mix in the second set after a 30 minute break; he played for another 90 minutes and seemed to get more energized as the night went on. After the first encore the band went off but the lights didn't come up, some people began to leave while the applause continued, and I said to my wife, "He's coming back." After all they hadn't played "Hideaway" yet... Sure enough they came out and played "Hideaway." Fantastic. He said he'd be in the lobby afterwards signing autographs - I wished I'd taken my LP along to get him to sign it... This man is indeed a legend, an apostle of the blues, handing on the tradition, now as always, to the next generation. God bless you, John.

    fantastic

by noyuppie on 2009-11-12The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

John Mayall did not disapoint, he is an ICON and. showed it! His relationship with his band is something to behold. Never 'hogging' the limelight himself, you can tell he loves his band. Only downside was the sound system.....that venue just can't seem to get it right, although it did improve in the 2nd half. GREAT SHOW

John Mayall & the BB's did not Disappoint!

by CharlieL on 2009-11-12The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

This past summer we attended John's concert in Wembley Arena London, where he headlined with BB King--it was a great concert. But I have to say that last night's performance was even more enjoyable! Perhaps it was because of the smaller venue, or perhaps it was because only John and the BB's shared the stage. No matter though because it was truly superb and did not disappoint the audience at any level. John Mayall is everybit the consumate performer, a true legend for our time and an inspiration to those of us who think its not all about retirement--as John demonstrates in his song 'Last night I dreamt about the Blues' it is all about following your dream! Thanks for continuing to follow yours John !!!!!

    old master still has it

by bohemian13 on 2009-11-12The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

John has assembled 4 outstanding musicians to join this blues/rock tour. Although he hasn't learned all the lyrics to his new material, he stil has a great mastery of the harp & key board and has learned over the years to read his audience and keep the pace flowing; his Sonny Boy Williamson renditions were awesome. All the other members got to showcase their talents on numerous solos & each brought something unique. They all did the old jazz game of playing a better riff than the one that went before. Many of the songs were from the 60's yet upped w/new 'room to explore' areas for the solos.

John Mayall - Grandpa sings the Blues

by JeffG on 2009-11-12The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

I couldn't help wondering if somewhere tonight a child was asking "where's Grandpa" only to hear his mother reply, "playing the blues in Vancouver". The average age of the audience, only slightly younger than Mr. Mayall, appreciated the fire he brought to music he was very familiar with. Backed by 4, very profiscient sidemen, Mayall delivered a passionate workmanlike performance that relies, by design, solely on his own interpretations. We did decide that he could have benefited from some backup vocals. Many songs were prefaced by, from our 1967 album, our 1969 album, leading one to recognize the Mr. Mayall has not updated his repetoir in some time. His reditions are almost jazz like in that each sideman often got to riff on the the melody. The songs where album length rather than "top 40". All in all, those who knew what they were coming to hear were not disappointed and after 2 1/2 hours playing, went home satisifed from an evening of the blues.

    Reacquainted after 41 years!

by Sc8terman on 2009-11-12The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

I had the pleasure of seeing John & the Blues Breakers in Edmonton back in 1968. Since then, I have followed his career with great interest. In those days, John experimented with a different blues direction with every tour and album release. Recently, I purchased "Along for the Ride" and thought John's music was better than ever. Last night's concert confirmed his place as a Blue's icon. I was also reminded that John ranks right up there as one of the world's finest harp players. I felt good!
