    Weak start-good finish

by tankenn on 2023-03-17Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

I wish I’d known that the first 30 minutes was going to be watching old movie clips-a ticket to the movies would have been cheaper! We couldn’t even see the clips because people were still being seated till well after the concert started-then unseated as they went to get more drinks-then seated-then unseated…you get the idea. Aside from Mellencamp having a short expletive-riddled tirade at the audience, some of who weren’t actually there to listen to music, things got closer to what I expected. Loved hearing all his old songs and even enjoyed his newer, more mellow ones.

    Awesome concert experience!!

by Yukonlass on 2023-03-17Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

John Mellencamp was so great! He has some great new music that he played but he also played a lot of his hits. He told us some personal stories and really connected with the audience. The venue, the beautiful Orpheum theater in Vancouver, was packed full of fans and we all sang along with our favourites. In fact, John had to holler over us and give a songwriting lesson. We all sang over him when he performed Jack and Diane, but skipped verse two, going straight for the chorus. He explained that it goes verse-bridge-verse and then the chorus. And, since he said he'd had some trouble writing that verse, he was going to sing it. Of course we all happily joined in. Highly recommend this entertainer! The only thing I would say that's not 100% positive is that when he had the spoken verse playing, the musicians were too loud.

    Awesome!

by SAM on 2023-03-17Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Such an amazing show!! I loved the classic movie shorts instead of having an opening band! John was engaging, telling stories and talking to the fans. He did some old stuff, new stuff and hit all the notes. As always, he did not disappoint 💖

    he still has it

by Mati on 2023-03-17Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

aside from people complaining too loudly about the old movies at the beginning. (if they would have listened to the story behind it they would have understood). this show was great, he still has the ability to put on a good show, and he is quite the comic. Had a great time. great venue!!!!

Weird Promo to Start the Show

by RonnieT on 2023-03-17Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Weird promo of Turner Classic Movies spoiled the show start. A crowd of 60 and 70 years olds managed to refrain from outright booing after suffering through a half hour of old movie clips.

    Great Show

by Lep on 2023-03-17Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

John hit all the bases in Vancouver. Some old songs, some from deeper in his catalog. Played most of his hits.Band during a few songs too loud for his voice. They had us sit for 30 minutes watching an 'ad' about Turner Classic Movies, which was 15-20 minutes too long.We go for music, not ads

    The documentary/movie was unnecessary.

by Lin on 2023-03-17Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

We went to listen a music not a movie. When it arrived John and his band were great.

    Crowd interaction

    by P’sta on 2023-03-17Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

John knows how to entertain, he talked to the audience and got the audience involved. He talked to the crowd, told stories and entertained, that is what we want… communication. Now that’s an artist who knows what the people want, a true musician.

    Great concert, very weird beginning

by Mish on 2023-03-17Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

A really great concert that didn’t start out so great. The concert started with 25-30 minutes of clips from classic old movies (Marlon Brando, James Dean, Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward type era). I assume this was due to his partnership/sponsorship (TCM) but the length of the classic reels was just too long - people started to get restless and rather annoyed, and didn’t quite get the connection between the films and the concert. Once the reels ended and the concert started it was great! Classic music mixed with some new stuff - lots of audience singing and dancing - a really fun night. He’s a funny man and is still a great entertainer that I’d see again…I’d just skip the first 25-30 minutes!!

    Great show

by Mar on 2023-03-17Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Love JM, fabulous singing voice still - story telling without expletives would have been better, but still amusing. As much as I LOVE the movies, was not prepared for the first half hour movie clips - would have been more enjoyable with a bit more explanation eg Five movie clips, enjoy and JM will see you after the clips at 830. It was a bit long IMO. We rushed to get there for the 8 pm show, which essentially started at 830. Overall so glad we went, as usual great hit songs with other newer songs. All in all great show.

    Great Concert

by Katrina on 2023-03-17Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

John Mellencamp still has it! We really enjoyed the show. He is very personable and can still belt out the hits! We weren’t too crazy about the movie clips though. We were anxious to hear hoping sing. But I guess he wanted to get across his beginning roots and what drives hi. We were really impressed with his paintings as well. Very talented! The Orpheum Theatre is always amazing!

    Good show

by Eyeguy on 2023-03-17Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

The show was very good but not great. Wanted to hear more of his older stuff that got everyone out of their seats. We loved heating his old hit songs. Enjoyed his banter with the audience. However…..The 30 minute black & white movie clips played at the beginning was absolutely horrible, people were booing. We just wanted to see his show not old movies, that part was just terrible.

    A trip down memory lane..

by LL on 2023-03-17Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Great to see JM after all these years! Last time I saw him live was the mid 80’s, and although he’s a lot older (aren’t we all?), he can still rock! We. We need more concerts at the beautiful Orpheum! ❤️🎸🎶

    J.C.Mellencamp dissapoints

    by A. p. on 2023-03-16Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

I attended the 13 march 2023 John Mellencamp concert at the Orpheum in Vancouver. The orpheum is the home of the Vancouver symphony orchestra. It has impeccable accousitcs. The show opened with a sound volume that overpowered the venue. As a result, the sound was distorted and swamped out the vocals. Nothing could be heard clearly. After about 15 minutes John played 2 solo songs. I could hear these songs and I enjoyed them. I thought perhaps the remainder of the show might played be at a lower volume and said so to my G.F. who was also complaining about how loud it was. But I was wrong... the remaining songs were just as loud as the beginning. Such a shame. Not being able to hear songs clearly enough to enjoy them. I could have had a better evening by playing his songs on youtube. Soryy John, I like your music, but I want to hear it. I don't want it pounding my body.
