Johnny Reid on Tour
When Johnny Reid introduces a song, his natural Scottish burr is plain as day, but as soon as the Canadian country star — who moved to Canada as a kid — starts to sing, the North American spirit inhabits him. Reid's voice is full of classic country twang, but at the same time it bears a gruff brand of soulfulness that can sometimes make him sound like a country version of Bruce Springsteen. The band pumping away behind him sports a similar mixture of musical flavors, bringing a dash of rock 'n' roll and soul to Reid's countrified tunes. Never one to put on airs, Reid brings a guy-next-door vibe to his performances, no matter how big the venue, and even when he's got the crowd singing along in an arms-aloft anthem, he still has a way of maintaining an intimate connection with his audience on every song.
Johnny Reid in Concert
When Johnny Reid was a child in the small Scottish town of Lanark, it would have seemed incredibly unlikely that he would grow up to become a Canadian country music star — but that's exactly what he did. Reid was 13 when he and his family made the move to Canada, and it didn't take long for him to soak up the North American vibe that would one day guide his career. In 1997 Reid released his debut album, Another Day, Another Dime. It wasn't until his third album, 2005's Born to Roll, that things really began to take off for Reid; the single "Gypsy Soul" hit No. 12 on the Canadian country charts, and the album eventually went platinum in Canada. Solidly on the path to stardom, Reid went on to score a long string of hits in the years to come. In the process, he also managed to rack up an astonishing number of honors, including multiple Juno awards, and a towering heap of awards from the Canadian Country Music Association.
had a great time at the concert. seemed like we just got there and it was over already.
This was the best concert I have attended this year, Mr Reid is a fantastic performer he had the audience in his hands from the moment he stepped on stage and when he stepped off that stage and mingled with his fans he gained another fan for life. Run don't walk to the nearest ticket agent and go see this awesome singer do what he does best entertain us from the beginning of his concert until the final note. Thank you
I found Johnny Reid to be absolutly wonderful - He had such a rapport with the audience - He was fun and his band looked like they were having a awsome time I went there not really knowing who he was and what he sang and found a new singer that I would listen to lots - His music was not just country but very diverse & enjoyable - It was great to see such a mixture of age groups in the audience from small (3-5yr) to seniors. If he came to town again I would definately go to see him and take a friend
every time we see johnny perform we are blown away..he is so reachable, touchable, we just "love him" have all his cd's have seen him twice and are looking forward to seeing him in vancouver sept 13 ar the ccma"s. incredible
BEST concert I have EVER been to. Crisp Clear sound. Johnny even came into the crowd.
Simple staging, understated set design but WOW, what a show! Johnny Reid's soulful voice and thoughful lyrics were exactly what I expected - what I didn't aniticpate was the amount of FUN that he and his band seemed to be having up on stage.
What an excellent entertainer, and such a talent. We had a wonderfull evening that was beyond our expectations. The group of supporting muscicians were amazing, they showed world class talent. Johnny you won me over with your performance.
I went to the Johnny Reid concert with 5 friends and family and we all totally loved the concert. Johnny puts on a very entertaining show that has little bit of everything. Great entertainer.
He was very into his audience and played for them. His music is great, the backup was excellent! His guest was very good.
My husband and I totally and completely enjoyed Johnny's concert last night. He is a true showman. He shocked us when, at the start of the second song, he jumped down off the stage and made his way around the crowd... up in to the stands and then back down to the floor and around the other side of the venue...to dance with fans and say hi...he wasn't shy about giving away hugs! He didn't miss a beat or a word. The band was fabulous and appeared to be truly enjoying themselves. The time flew and before we knew it, it was over. A true showman. Wonderful. I can't wait until he comes back...I'll be first in line! Thanks, Johnny! PG loves you!
Great entertainer! This man gives a great show, very vibrant and interactive with the audience. I cant wait to see him again!
I enjoyed the close quarters (other than too much dry ice), opening was a great canadian songwriter.
Great show! Have to say Doc Walker was my favourite but every band played amazing. Venue was great and weather couldn't have been better. Definately a must for anoyone who likes country music and I hope the Kinsmen can pull it off again next year.
The whole festival was great. The opening band was local talent and they were very good I have seen Johnny Reid and George Canyon before , but always enjoy seeing them again. The day was nicely spaced out for performances and not much waiting time in between acts. This is the first year for this particular event and I hope it becomes a yearly thing. The layout of the performance field and the stage was very good and the field was great for viewing from all areas. The security was a little bit much when it came to checking your bags for outside food or drink. I understand that the vendors need to make their money also but there wasn't many snacks for purchase and when you have small children that is something you need. ALso there was not a booth to buy a cup of coffee if necessary and all the beverages you could buy out of the beer tent were water or pop. The merchandise was very nicely displayed for the artists and the availability of the performers for autographs and photos was awesome. My daughter and granddaughter were thrilled. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this event and would definitely go another year.
I would probably say the best part of the event was George Canyon. The parking and busing to and from the event was 100%!!!!! There was lots of room for seating, not much obstruction to deal with and even though the day was a little damp at times, the beer tent made the perfect spot to stay dry and enjoy a nice COLD beer. Availability and variety of food was good. Would have been nice to see a "Tim Horton's" there. ha ha. Security and policing was prevalent. Would definitely attend again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
alex j. robinson, tara oram, beverly mahood good entertainment.george cannon was great, doc walker was good and johnni reid was awesome
We had an amazing time at Music in the Fields in Lucknow. It rained for a short time in the afternoon but cleared up by the time the headliners came out on stage. George Canyon was fabulous and looked good too. :-) But the highlight was Johnny Reid. We had to wait quite awhile for sound checks, etc. but the wait was well worth it as he put on a very professional, highly energetic performance. He was dazzling in his black shirt and white jacket and leapt around the stage throughout the show so everyone in the audience got a great view. His interaction with audience members, leading in sing-alongs and jumping off-stage to meet and greet along the fence was a testament to what a great guy he is as well as a great performer. I liked the fact that he signed a little pink guitar and gave it to a young girl in the audience who must have been thrilled. I hope this event happens again next year. It was very well organized and prices were good for food and drink - not the usual gouging you get at these types of venues. Good job, Lucknow!
Music in the Fields was excellent. The setup was perfect, lots of washroom, garbage containers, excellent food and lots of variety. Also the beer tent was set up great, with checking the number of people who went in, and the number of people who came out. The line-up was very good, Johnny Reid and Doc Walker put on excellent performances, would have liked each of them to play longer. Even though the weather wasn't the greatest, it didn't put a damper on any of the fun or entertainment. The Stage was big and the big screeens were a bonus. We camped in the field across from the event and it was perfect, also the shuttles and buses were a great idea. A very nice town and we will definately come back next year. Give the Kinsmen a pat on the back, they did an outstanding job organizing such an event.
Johnny Reid was awesome. He sounds much better in person. The show was fantastic and I would recommend to anyone. Would definitely see him again. The other acts were very good too. It was a good day all around. LUCKNOW ROCKS!!!. You would never know that this was Lucknow's first event of this type. It was organized, clean, well thought out and the town was the friendliest. I was so amazed that they had so many buses after the concert to take people back to their cars. Again, well organized. Good WORK! I truly hope for another year of good acts like this one.
I enjoyed the entire event. The music was great. Tara Oram , Beverley Mahood , George Canyon , Doc Walker and Johnny Reid were spectacular. The atmosphere was perfect. There was lot's of food. Lot's of room to sit around and you didn't feel cramped at all. Next year I would like to try the camping. It was well organized , well run and a great success I think.
