About

Joshua Radin grew up listening to classic Motown hits of the ‘60s, The Beatles, Paul Simon, James Taylor and Cat Stevens, influences which were to play a big part in his future career. He studied art at Northwestern University before moving to New York, buying a guitar and teaching himself how to play it and write songs.

His big break come in 2004 when he presented a copy of his very first song “Winter” to a TV producer by the name of Zach Braff with whom he eventually became close friends. He was so impressed he used it as a soundtrack on a scene in the comedy TV series Scrubs in 2004. After this exposure, demand grew for his work and soon his compositions were featuring in hit TV shows such as Brothers and Sisters, Grey's Anatomy, One Tree Hill and American Idol. In total he has written more than 75 songs which have been featured on TV.

He relocated to Los Angeles, signed with Columbia Records and released his first album We Were Here in 2006. It was received enthusiastically by fans and music critics alike receiving a four-star Rolling Stone review and achieving No. 1 position on iTunes Folk Album Chart. His second album Simple Times was released in 2008 under the Mom & Pop label and reached No. 34 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. His most successful single from the album “I'd Rather Be With You” reached No. 2 on the Billboard Digital Songs chart. He released his third album The Rock and The Tide in October 2010 and achieved similar levels of chart and critical success, with it reaching No. 5 on the Billboard Independent Chart. His most recent album Underwater was released in 2012.

Radin has played with many musical greats both during his extensive touring career as well as on his popular albums. Guest performers have included Sheryl Crow, Tori Amos, Gary Jules, Belmont Tench, Jim Keltner, Johnny Flagher, Jason Borger, Victor Indrizzo, Lenny Castro, Maria Taylor and Patty Griffin among others. He has also written soundtracks for hit movies including The Nanny Diaries, Catch and Release, Dakota Sky and The Last Kiss. He is in demand for personal appearances on TV shows and, most famously, after appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, was asked to perform at her wedding.

Great Venue, amazing artists - very personal and quaint. I loved every minute of these rising stars.

  • Good Story Teller But Disappointed

by Crudite on 2009-09-29The Opera House - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

The sound was very poor. I'm not sure if it was the venue or the mix but the music over powered the vocals. As well, I realize that artists must get tired of singing the same songs over and over but, unfortunately, the fans like to be able to sing along and there were very few songs that Josh sang close enough to the original that you could actually follow. Great story teller, though. and enjoyed hearing the history behind the songs. Josh is quite a comedian!

  • Even better live!

    by concertlover24 on 2009-09-20The Opera House - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I am a HUGE fan of Joshua Radin and expected a great concert - but some how it was even better than expected. He has an amazing voice and really connected with the crowd. He had the crowd laughing and smiling the entire time. He switched up some of his songs, played the fan favourites and even played a few new songs. I highly recommend this artist and his concert - an incredible talent and him and his band put on a great show! The opening acts were also great - Amber Rubarth and Gary Jules. Both great personalities that interacted with the crowd and amazing talents. It was a great atmosphere at this concert - definitely one of the best that I have been to. Can't wait for Joshua to come back to Toronto.

  • Joshua Radin was fantastic

by dickvader on 2009-09-17The Opera House - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Actually my 2 daughter went to this concert, they were quite excited when they got home STated Johsua Radin was amazing and although they had to leave a little before the end , they heard most of their favorite songs he does. THey also noted that the two opening acts were very good, the female singer my one daughter stated she would download music by and the male entertainer apparently was quite funny and good. I would say overall it was a big hit and they are looking forward to his next visit to toronto and being able to stay for the whole show!!!

  • Charming & Intimate

by Hails on 2009-09-17The Opera House - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Joshua Radin was amazing. The singer speaks with honesty and is genuine with both his words and song lyrics. Half-jokingly poking fun at himself made the ladies in the crowd feel for him and wanting to mend his broken heart. The opening acts were great as well, especially Garry Jules with Mad World. It was a great night and I would do it all over again!

  • Joshua Radin

by haroldhill on 2009-09-17The Opera House - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Joshua Radin puts on a great show. He interacts with the audience, and his singing sounds just like -- if not better than -- his albums. He's a true performer.

  • Had a Blast!!

  • Great performers, good venue

    by Influence7 on 2009-09-17The Opera House - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I went to the Operahouse for the first time expecting it to be much bigger and the fact that it wasn't was a huge plus! It was close but not uncomfortable. Amber Rubarth and Gary Jules were great opening acts, very well selected. Joshua Radin is one of my all-time favourite performers and definitely lived up to his promise! It was great to hear some new songs that will be on his new album, it felt like a sneak peek!

  • Absolutely Well worth the traffic!

by Shellzz on 2009-09-17The Opera House - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I was 30 mins late for Josh's concert and on the road for 4 hours when i started to loose faith and any possibility that we would make it. Right after he started his first song at the Opera House-which by the way was the perfect venue for Josh-I knew right then it was well worth the drive. Absolutely amazing performance, such a laid back individual who made me feel so comfortable there with him amongst the crowd of hundreds. I love him and will be back the next time he comes to Toronto!

  • Entertaining

by lilcourt on 2009-09-17The Opera House - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet the room got in many of the songs, also pleasantly surprised by how funny Josh was... I had no idea! Opening Acts were quite long.. Show started at 8:30pm but Josh didnt come on stage until about 10pm! Overall great show.

  • Very talented guy!

    by m1987 on 2009-09-17The Opera House - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Joshua Radin is an amazing artist!! I have his CDs, both of which are beautiful. This is the first time I've ever seen him live, he has a great stage presence and is just an all around great guy. His interaction with the audience was enjoyable, he was very funny and told little anecdotes about each song. After the show I got to meet him and he signed my ticket, as well as took a photo with me - such a nice guy too. I can't wait for his new album to come out!!
