About

Joshua Radin grew up listening to classic Motown hits of the ‘60s, The Beatles, Paul Simon, James Taylor and Cat Stevens, influences which were to play a big part in his future career. He studied art at Northwestern University before moving to New York, buying a guitar and teaching himself how to play it and write songs.

His big break come in 2004 when he presented a copy of his very first song “Winter” to a TV producer by the name of Zach Braff with whom he eventually became close friends. He was so impressed he used it as a soundtrack on a scene in the comedy TV series Scrubs in 2004. After this exposure, demand grew for his work and soon his compositions were featuring in hit TV shows such as Brothers and Sisters, Grey's Anatomy, One Tree Hill and American Idol. In total he has written more than 75 songs which have been featured on TV.

He relocated to Los Angeles, signed with Columbia Records and released his first album We Were Here in 2006. It was received enthusiastically by fans and music critics alike receiving a four-star Rolling Stone review and achieving No. 1 position on iTunes Folk Album Chart. His second album Simple Times was released in 2008 under the Mom & Pop label and reached No. 34 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. His most successful single from the album “I'd Rather Be With You” reached No. 2 on the Billboard Digital Songs chart. He released his third album The Rock and The Tide in October 2010 and achieved similar levels of chart and critical success, with it reaching No. 5 on the Billboard Independent Chart. His most recent album Underwater was released in 2012.

Radin has played with many musical greats both during his extensive touring career as well as on his popular albums. Guest performers have included Sheryl Crow, Tori Amos, Gary Jules, Belmont Tench, Jim Keltner, Johnny Flagher, Jason Borger, Victor Indrizzo, Lenny Castro, Maria Taylor and Patty Griffin among others. He has also written soundtracks for hit movies including The Nanny Diaries, Catch and Release, Dakota Sky and The Last Kiss. He is in demand for personal appearances on TV shows and, most famously, after appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, was asked to perform at her wedding.

    Glad I went

by Oblithian on 2017-10-06Knox United Church - Calgary

It was a reasonable price. My girlfriend suggested it, and although I like his CDs the live performace was just as good if not better. The venue was cozy and had nice acoustics.

Performers were great, venue was average

by canuck611 on 2015-03-03RIO Theatre on BROADWAY - Vancouver

The opening acts were unique and did a good length set -- not too long, but we got a good taste of their style and range. They were personable and commanded the stage well, creating a casual and comfortable atmosphere. Joshua Radin was amazing, as usual--he told great stories, joked around, and played a great mix of new and familiar songs. My only criticism of Josh's act was that it was too short! He came onstage around 9:30pm, left at 10:30pm, and returned for only one song as an encore. The venue was drastically oversold. I arrived as the first opening act was going on, and there were NO seats left. My friends and I were left to our own devices to find a place to stand. The venue is normally a movie theatre, so there really weren't any great places to situate ourselves. We ended up going to the balcony and standing in the doorway, but we had to move everytime someone needed to exit or return to the balcony. There was standing space behind the last row of seats on the balcony, but it was being used to store movie promo materials. If it was known that the venue was oversold, the least they could have done was prepare and clear some space!

    Joshua Radin Vancouver, AMAZING SHOW!

by TCurtis on 2015-03-03RIO Theatre on BROADWAY - Vancouver

LOVED everything about the evening; the venue, the opening numbers and Joshua....ALL incredible. Only sad part was that he didn't sing "Today," first dance at our wedding! Huge fan and look forward to Joshua's return to Vancouver sometime soon :)

His voice is amazing and he played a great variety of old and new stuff. He was also hilarious and told lots of funny anecdotes about his life and music. I went with a friend who didn't even know who Josh Radin was before the concert, and he loved it too.

    Another solid performance!

by Rebecks on 2015-03-01McDougall United Church - Edmonton

Joshua always seems to bring the best energy to his shows. He talks about meaning behind his songs and does a great mix of old and new. Not to mention always has the best openers at his shows! This was no exception...

    Soundtrack to my Soul

by BellaSoul on 2015-02-23Mod Club Theatre (Formerly Virgin Mobile Mod Club) - Toronto

Josh Radin never disappoint his dedicated audience. The crowd was practically silent, as the respectfully await the show. Radin's performance was authentic, emotional, and inspiring. Watching Joshua and feeling the music in your soul is one of life's greatest pleasures.

    Amazingly Talented

by ehwills on 2014-08-01The Danforth - Toronto

I saw Joshua Radin at The Danforth in Toronto, at a more intimate type of concert. He is so talented and performs very well live. I would definitely see him again!

    I just can't get enough :)

by ShawnaFawna on 2013-11-07Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Joshua is by far my favourite artist and his live performances do not disappoint. I have seen him each time he comes to Toronto for the past 4 years or so and he is consistently amazing. I love that he changes up his shows-some have been acoustic/unplugged sets in more intimate settings (smaller venues), others with his full band. His stage presence is the perfect mix of personable (often tells "behind the music" stories), inclusive, and energetic. Really, really great show!

    Joshua Radin Live is AMAZING!!!

by Anonymous on 2012-11-15The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

From beginning to end Joshua Radin's show was everything I hoped it would be and more. He took the time to explain the meaning behind almost every song he played. His voice is phenomenal and I really liked during the opening song how he stepped away from the microphone and continued singing. I also really enjoyed the Bob Dylan cover he did which was entirely acoustic. I would definitely see Joshua Radin again when he returns to Toronto!

Joshua Radin sings me to tears...

by BellaSoul on 2012-11-14The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

AMAZING! I was so excited to finally be seeing Josh Radin live... that I actually started to cry during is opening song (and couldn't stop). The stage set the warm and cozy tone, and Josh's voice was simply magic. I didn't want it to end! Also, I was sitting behind Josh's mom and dad!!!
